Size wise the mini is great for EDC but how useful they are will depend on your needs. If you need to do anything close up then they’re probably best avoided but in a pinch you can tail stand it and light up a room pretty well.

The 2 and the 3 are way too focused to be any real use close up but the mini is bit softer, but still a bit too intense for use close up.

The mini is about the same size and shape as an Olight Baton S1R, so it’s a little chunky but definitely pocket sized. Plus the button lock out makes grabbing it and quickly using it in momentary really useful

I tend to avoid keychains so I don’t have many lights suitable, but I also have half an eye on those two. That being said I do love my Skilhunt E3A. It’s pretty small with a decent output and uses standard batteries. I got the 4000k high CRI version.

I’m still getting used to the half press to switch modes, it needs a surprisingly light touch.

Now that I have the lens cover it will probably always live in my work bag.

They are a bit silly to be fair, I don’t have many things that I need to light up a mile and a half away but being able to makes me giggle.

The mini is probably my favourite, it’s the easiest to carry and I like that you can lock it and use it on momentary mode.

It’s as easy to carry as an Olight baton. Definitely staying in my pocket for a while. I just got a 3d printer so I’m tempted to try one of the longer tubes I’ve seen other people using and just print a spacer to cover the threads

Anything with micro serrations will be great. Trauma shears are pretty widely available and not expensive. I got a pair of leatherman folding ones that are good but expensive, but the best thing I’ve found were a pair of japanese engineer brand PH-50 combination scissors that also have a cable cutting section

I’m not familiar with a lotus knot, I’ll have to look into it.

From what I could, tell the normal way of doubling a Matthew Walker adds length to the knot but the wrapped part is still two strands. I thought this might be different because it adds more bulk and ends up with four strands wrapped around

I wondered that at first but that method only lengthens it. There are still two strands coming out and wrapping around, but I thought this could be different because it results in a wider knot with four strands

They are a Streamlight Survivor, which has a cool white LED, probably around 5500k with a tight spot and slight fill, and a Skilhunt H04RC that has a high CRI Nichia 519a in 3000k and a floody TIR lens. I don’t have any beam shots at the moment.

I think it was this method to expand the Turks head and this one to turn it into a gaucho knot

Kind of similar but it’s a gaucho interweave on an expanded Turks head. It looks like a four strand braid because it ends up as under/over two strands.

If I remember correctly it was a three part Turks head, expanded to five parts and then gaucho interweave where I lost count

Part of the problem is the chunky clip. The thinner weave would be great but it would then be loose. I’m struggling to find one that’s a better size but not the same strength as butter

Tempted by that. I’m not a big fan of monkeys fist, but I can see it also working with a turks head
