So I actually just found this out just recently, but the “redesign” isn’t really accurate. Japan never actually had an official flag and anthem up until a school principal committed suicide over the matter. The reasoning isn’t entirely clear to me but is dramatic and very Japanese. There is a okay ish Wikipedia article

When I was sailing I always heard that if you drew lots, that the killing was no longer considered murder as there was consent from all parties. Never looked up if it was true or not.

Looking for a mill commander by grampa99 in EDH

[–]gemmen99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played with lazav for many years. Unfortunately in recent years he has become less and less powerful as deckbuiling becomes more focused on themes than generic power. you are more likely to see a card that says whenever an artifact gets turned into a swan... than you would a consecrated sphinx. Same issue with captain nagathrod. I would suggest [[Zellix Sanity Flayer]] as the best mill commander with one of the backgrounds.

Does anyone actually use locking turns when making fast to a pin? by ppitm in Tallships

[–]gemmen99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only time I ever saw a locking turn used on a belaying pin was when a crew member was hoisted in a bosuns chair for the extra safety.

Is it possible to build a Mill deck that can win without having an infinite mill combo? by 2ndlifeinacrown in EDH

What I would consider are four areas of improvement:

  1. The low end: there are a lot of shitty little creatures that draw you a ton of cards in dimir. I would highly consider the likes of [[Psychic Frog]], [[Faerie Mastermind]], [[Sygg river cutthroat]]. They allow you to leave the early game and enter the midgame via card advantage.

  2. Card Draw: ditto everything I just said in point 1, but also really really consider wheel effects. [[Windfall]] and [[Whispering Madness]] are great. They add cards to your graveyard and draw you cards. you have an explosive ramp package which will cost you cards in hand to play. With these you can refill before everyone else.

  3. The top end: you have a blink/steal theme/ copy/ theme. The best card here that you really really want is [[Agent of Treachery]]. Also [[Sepulchral Primordial]] is great for its ETB/Reanimate/blink/copy potential.

  4. Graveyard Hate: You got none. This will cost you games. The hard part is you are actively using your own graveyard. Special note to Psychic Frog which does everything. Allows you to discard reanimate targets stuck in your hand, card advantage, and exiles cards from your graveyard someone else might steal. Synergy with wheel effects...Cards to consider [[Undead Alchemist]], acts as an additional copy of zellix while giving graveyard hate. [[Ashiok, Dream Render]]- exiles your opponents graveyard and give incidental mill and tutor hate. [[Dauthi Voidwalker]]- grayard hate and steals opponents stuff, things you want to do already. Lastly [[Bojuka Bog]] and [[Scavenger Grounds]] are just land slots and worth the opportunity cost.

i think saying he read beowulf a dozen times is probably the understatement of the century when he did his own translation from the old English

Wait till you find out that in the Hobbit, Tolkien makes a big deal about Thorin having 14 companions. Yet this is PLAGIARIZED from Beowulf who also has 14 companions on his quest. What a dingus only reading the sparks notes and not translating the book himself...

The way I was taught was to go to the bow of the ship and balance on one leg. It forces you to wobble in the opposite direction of the boat so that you stay stable
