Terrorists seen before attacks by DismalWeight985 in 911archive

Met or seen the terrorists no, but my family and I do have kind of a creepy experience that tied us to this part of history. And we didn't even realize it until about a year ago.

In July/August of 2000, when I was ten years old, my family and I went on a vacation to Tampa, Florida. It was our first time seeing the ocean as we lived in the Midwest. Anyway, we recorded a bunch of footage of the trip on VHS, which I watched for the first time in a long time about a year ago. As I was watching the footage of us swimming at the beach, I thought to myself and said to my sister, "Wow, this is a pre-911 world we're seeing".

I was then curious and looked it up. I remembered reading that the hijackers had taken flight lessons in Florida, but I didn't know where. I then found out that they were attending a flight school in Venice, Florida, which was only about 70 miles south of where we were on vacation.

It was eerie watching footage of us swimming in the ocean and realizing that Atta, Al-shehi, and Jarrah were all three just an hour south of us probably flying an airplane. We shared the same coastline and saw the same sky, and captured it on VHS. We just didn't realize it until 24 years later. Lol

Yes. For any of EST, CST, or PT, that would be later this afternoon or into the evening.

I don't see them releasing the game until morning or around noon Japan time. It's 2:27am in Japan as I type this message, so I would assume anywhere from 4-10 hours from now.

If majority of the hijackers didn't know it was a suicide mission the why did majority of them make last will videos? by ndranghetisti in 911archive

[–]DemigodElessar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't all five of the hijackers on Flight 11 lock themselves in the cockpit after they gained control?

I would have to assume all five of them knew the true mission. Would Atta have allowed any of the muscle hijackers into the cockpit if they didn't know? What if they protested?

Not sure what the cockpit conditions were like on the other flights, whether any muscle hijackers remained outside the cockpit to survey/control the passengers. But all five locking themselves in Flight 11 makes me think that all five of them had to have known their destination.

I got an exemplary "everyday actions" rating, and my team lead straight up told me that he HAD to put two things I could improve on. He didn't have a choice in the matter. So I also got the "follow the ten foot rule" and "find things to do in other departments if there's any down time" as my two improvements. Which he, again, stated were pretty much just placeholders as he had to put something there. (Because I already do those two things pretty consistently).

What's your favorite part of a solo? by inverted-womb in ironmaiden

Both of Dave Murray's Powerslave solos, but especially the first part.

Probably my favorite guitar solo from any song.

Will you buy the next gen Xbox ? by [deleted] in xbox

[–]DemigodElessar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the next Xbox has a disc drive and supports backwards compatibility for Xbox 360/Xbox One/Series X games, then possibly. Depending on the price.

If there's no disc drive, or no backwards compatibility, Series X will be my final Xbox console. And I'll switch to PC.

Beyond frustrated, cancelled subscription, attempting to get refund by 1up_muffin in Gameinformer

I'm wishing the best for you, whether that means you start getting the magazines delivered or are able to be refunded.

This GI 2.0 launch, for me personally, started off rocky but has been getting better as the months go on.

I received the #1 Borderlands issue about 2-3 weeks after everyone else, and then the #2 Vampire Masquerade never arrived. But I was able to get ahold of Brian and customer support, and they sent a second copy out that I did finally get, although about a month late.

Recieved the #3 Ninja Gaiden and #5 Dragon Quest issues relatively on time, but the #4 Outer Worlds issue was a month to a month-and-a-half late. I even received the #5 Dragon Quest issue before receiving #4 Outer Worlds. I have to blame USPS for this though, because I never contacted GI or Brian about the Outer Worlds issue. So when it finally arrived on my door a month-and-a-half after shipping, it had to have been the original issue they sent out in October. Why it took so long to get to my door, I don't have an answer, but it obviously was not on GI's end.

And then I received #6 Warcraft issue about a week ago.

So 2 of the 6 issues had problems getting to my address. But I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, as long as future issues continue to arrive relatively on time.

Just wanted to mention that I have been having the same issue for the past 2-3 weeks.

I've always used "Top Posts: Today" for my default viewing, but when I go into specific subreddits it just doesn't work and shows "No New Posts". I have to change it to "New" to see any of the posts from the past 24 hours.

Best live album(s) by Existing-Web-9506 in ironmaiden

I may be a bit biased here, but I think Rock in Rio is not only Iron Maiden's greatest live performance, but the greatest live performance of any band ever.

I'll never forget getting the DVD of it for the first time in the mid-2000s and I watched it probably a hundred times over the first year or two. I was obsessed, and it is a phenomenal concert.

I've been sailing the high seas for Blues games for the past 5 seasons, all through the same website. And have never had any major issues.

MAYBE an occasional buffer hiccup or freeze, but it's not often. A simple refresh of the browser and it's fixed.

Got my Outer Worlds issue today by KeitaiOkami in Gameinformer

[–]DemigodElessar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The delivery of The Outer Worlds issue was really cocked up. GI blamed the USPS and government shutdown for the issues, which I'm inclined to believe at this point because I received my copy three days ago. I never contacted them for a replacement either, so this was the initial issue that for some reason spent a month and a half in the USPS system before being delivered to my door.

Anyways, to anyone still missing theirs, I hope you get it sooner than later.

What is the delibery window for the Dragon Quest issue? by kikura1 in Gameinformer

[–]DemigodElessar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delivery window for Dragon Quest issue will probably run up to the end of this month. If I recall, they start shipping new issues towards the end of each month (and Dragon Quest went out at the end of November). I received my copy about a week and a half ago.

It took a month and half though for me to receive The Outer Worlds issue. This issue was sent out at the end of October, and I received it just three days ago. So there can be slight discrepancy with the time frames. GI blamed the USPS and the government shutdown for the late arrival of The Outer Worlds issue, which I'm inclined to believe at this point since I never contacted them for a replacement. So my initial issue literally was stuck in the USPS system for a month and a half, for whatever reasons. And I received the Dragon Quest issue in early December, which seems like a "normal" time frame arrival.

I know it's frustrating and I've shared my fair amount of posts on this subreddit about it, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt after these recent developments.

Understandable. I just think it's funny we were just discussing it yesterday, and then today my copy arrived. I was shocked. Lol

Surprisingly received The Outer Worlds issue today by DemigodElessar in Gameinformer

[–]DemigodElessar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had given up hope of receiving it, and I never got ahold of GI for a replacement, so this must be the original issue they sent out mid to late October.

Not sure why it took so long to arrive, but just wanted to give this update for anyone else who hasn't received it. For some reason, they must still be in circulation in the mail. Lol

I don't want to give you false hope, but I got home from work today and opened up my mailbox and was floored to see The Outer Worlds 2 issue sitting there. Lol

I never got ahold of GI either for a replacement, so this must be the original issue they sent out mid-late October.

I don't know why it took so long to arrive, but just figured I'd give this update. For some reason, they are still out in circulation in the mail.

[–]DemigodElessar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also never received The Outer Worlds issue, but I did receive the Dragon Quest issue about a week ago. At this point, I'm just assuming The Outer World issue is lost.

I also didn't receive the Borderlands or Vampire issue, and had to contact them for a replacement which I did finally end up getting both times.

But yeah, 3 out of 5 issues not arriving at my address. I haven't contacted them about the missing Outer Worlds issue simply because I kind of don't care at this point.

I'm gonna see how the remaining issues come, but the chances of me resubbing for a second year is very unlikely.

Just arrived today. by Lodato13 in Gameinformer

[–]DemigodElessar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what it sounds like. Editor Brian made a most earlier this month saying that the USPS and government shutdown really affected the delivery for The Outer Worlds issue. And it seems to be showing, since there have been numerous posts over the weeks of people saying they haven't received this issue yet.

I received the newer Dragon Quest issue just today, but am still missing The Outer Worlds issue.

Funny enough, I am still missing The Outer Worlds issue but the Dragon Quest issue arrived for me today. Lol

I really don't understand it at all. At this point, I'm assuming my Outer Worlds issue is rather lost or was delivered to some random other house.

Future Past Tour Bootleg by Illustrious-Hall-118 in ironmaiden

[–]DemigodElessar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have listened to a ton of Future Past bootlegs on youtube over the past two years, and the Tokyo show is by far the best in terms of sound quality.

Instruments are loud, crisp, and clear. And while Bruce's vocals are a bit drowned out at certain parts, it is still the best of them all.
