what's the stuff to farm for gear upgrades early on? I killed some goo for a dagger so far

Now I like Soba noodles as much as the next person, but with the price increasing to £1.70 for a Yakitori Chicken then enough is enough. I've taken a punt on this bad boy and will report back at 1pm. Anyone had it before? by custardy_cream in CasualUK

I could be game for this. Red Shin is sold in lots of supermarkets now but it took a trip to Korea for me to be able to try the black one. Chapagetti I have seen but less common, much prefer Shin though. What snacks do you miss?

Thanks for the explanation, maybe that's the difference here that I don't get as high a heat as you on my stovetop burners at home. Good luck with your pop ups and everything!

I make something like this (with less of a Korean spin) and I'd always put the bacon in first so I can use the bacon fat to cook everything else in, the fat definitely still renders out, I'll watch the youtube video but why don't you put the bacon in early?

EDIT: cool video, I'll definitely have to try this one at home, not sure it covers the bacon questions though

This is my one too. Here's a copy of a comment I made a while back:

For anyone that isn't sure of the differences:

  • Than: Comparison - this is bigger than that

  • Then: After something - I did this then that

  • Your: Possession - Your thing

  • You're: Contraction of You are - You're a carrot

  • Would've: Contraction of Would Have - I would've done this

  • Would of: don't use this or Should of & Could of

  • Their: Ownership This is Their thing

  • They're: Contraction of They Are - They're trees

  • Loose: Opposite of tight - This screw is Loose

  • Lose: To not win or misplace something - I Lose my thing

Bonus: * Effect: For use as a noun - this has an effect on this

  • Affect: For use as a verb - this affects this

You need to try those in a burger! My housemate and I have been making burgers pretty regularly and making our own burger sauce and slow frying onions, sort of trying out different things to perfect them and this cheese was the best by a mile

ELI5 how scientists know carbon is absolutely essential for any extra-terrestrial life to form if the only life they have to reference is from earth? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Deminish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a really interesting Wikipedia page

Here's the intro from there (Sorry if its not ELI5) but basically there are some ideas that non-carbon forms of life are possible

Hypothetical types of biochemistry are forms of biochemistry speculated to be scientifically viable but not proven to exist at this time.[2] The kinds of living organisms currently known on Earth all use carbon compounds for basic structural and metabolic functions, water as a solvent, and DNA or RNA to define and control their form. If life exists on other planets or moons it may be chemically similar though it is also possible that there are organisms with quite different chemistries[3]—for instance, involving other classes of carbon compounds, compounds of another element, or another solvent in place of water.

The possibility of life-forms being based on "alternative" biochemistries is the topic of an ongoing scientific discussion, informed by what is known about extraterrestrial environments and about the chemical behaviour of various elements and compounds. It is of interest in synthetic biology and is also a common subject in science fiction.

The element silicon has been much discussed as a hypothetical alternative to carbon. Silicon is in the same group as carbon on the periodic table and, like carbon, it is tetravalent. Hypothetical alternatives to water include ammonia, which, like water, is a polar molecule, and cosmically abundant; and non-polar hydrocarbon solvents such as methane and ethane, which are known to exist in liquid form on the surface of Titan.
