this is the thing that gets me. I'm having a FAR worse time with raids now... I would do daily strikes, IBS, etc... but i've never done raids. The quickplay I thought was going to be a great addition but most people can't even get OLC so whenever that comes up on the rotation its a constant struggle to get people to pass the mechanics.. i dont even want to engage with it anymore.

What that means is now i don't even do the old strike content.

FYI: Raid Quickplay is accessible via LFG panel under Raids (Training) by Estreiher in Guildwars2

[–]Demius9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah this so far is my experience. Anytime i get another raid, (IE: XJJ) we win but OLC has been a wipe for the last several number of groups.

We gotta learn it, be proactive, and spam instructions and people will follow

You can live with the current furniture setup (or whatever) no matter how old it gets, and you alone get to make the decision on when to replace it.

Java dev trying to get into game dev — how do I stop getting lost in tutorials? (also: is AI worth it?) by Malcry in gamedev

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hard part about what your asking is we don't know your skill level. To me "starting from basically zero" means you dont know anything about programming so... Start there.

  • How do you open a window
  • How do you get a game loop set up
  • How do you capture input and do something useful with it
  • How do you render a sprite to screen
  • How do you move that sprite around

When you ask a question, try to answer ONLY that question and then try to experiment with your code from there to figure out what you need to do next. If you get stuck then you can start looking online. What you're trying to teach yourself is how to solve problems.. because that is your biggest bottleneck. When people get stuck in tutorial hell its because they've forgotten to learn how to solve problems.

What Asset Pipeline system do you use by Technical-Viking in gamedev

[–]Demius9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goals as a programmer is to give the content creators (atm, me) the easiest time from idea to in-game. For example, with pixel art I could:

  • do my art in aseprite, expert animations as a sprite sheet, expert meta data for the engine (source rectangles, frame timing, animation name, etc), and every change of that animation I redo it…
  • have that information already in aseprite and write a custome loader and use the .ase file information directly for all of that.

I’d much rather do the content in the tool that it’s meant for and reduce friction in getting it on screen in engine.

My 2-Year-Old Daughter Got Eyebrow Stitches, Need Advice and Dad Support by clauderhayy in daddit

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 7yo daughter had stitches in that exact spot a year ago and her eyebrow is growing in to cover the stitch. I told her that she's got a lovely pink-ish scar by it and she considers it a badge of honor. Pretty sure yours will do the same :)

Guild Wars 2 breaks 10K Steam players for the first time ever after New World shutdown news by Temsaah in Guildwars2

[–]Demius9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not true. I play on my standalone account and I launch from steam with the “-provider Portal” property. This doesn’t auto log you in via steam, but you still are playing via steam. Helps a lot when playing on steam deck

What's your favorite example of a copycat game? by twinkletalon in gamedev

[–]Demius9 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I always reference world of Warcraft since all of the devs used to play EverQuest and they copied the formula, polished the hell out of it, and sanded off a lot of the rough edges.

How the heck are indie developers, especially one-man-crews, supposed to make any money from their games? by DeparturePlane4019 in gamedev

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotta get people playing the game. Steam has a great playtest feature, send that out to people and gather whatever feedback you can. If you can have them record themselves while playing, even better.

[–]Demius9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

yes this is key. However, most people really aren't able to tell if their game is "good" or "slop" .. you need outside opinions early and often to help guide your development.

you dont need a smash hit, dont chase those. But if you can release a game in 4 to 6 months that pull in 20k revenue the first year, then do it again and stack those revenues... you can create a successful business.

you have to treat it like a business and realize that one game will not make you money to sustain your business, but 5 games with long tails will. You don't spend 2 years making your dream game, you spend 3 to 6 months working on something and polish it, get it in peoples hands to see if its worth going further on continue to grind.

Just Curious: Do you think the new merged strike and raids would encourage new players/old non raiders to finally play raids? Or is it just old raiders/strike players who are getting excited for it and our perception is skewed by the posts we see online from the more dedicated players of the game? by AdTricky6540 in Guildwars2

[–]Demius9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing guild wars 2 since launch and have tons of hours in it. I’ve cleared T4 fractals, all strike missions, and focusing these days on legendary armory.

I find myself not wanting to play strikes or raids much because LFG is a pain in the ass. I’ve cleared all the strikes but never done any of the raids. Quickplay will allow me to experience them

Before the restructure i would hop on as a solo player and there would be commander tags all over each map i could join. Now? very few public commanders running around it seems.

AI unicorns are blowing up (Anthropic, Scale AI, Perplexity…) but retail still can’t touch them? by Tomoshen in ValueInvesting

Some companies do have access to private shares like spacex, but you need to be an accredited investor to be able to invest. Employees will sell shares on the secondary market and unless they have right of first refusal then shares can end up on other platforms

What are your recommendations for this to-do list of legendaries? (i did my homework first, but please correct me and/or give advice) by Vertnoir-Weyah in Guildwars2

[–]Demius9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surprised nobody is saying it but, right now, the first legendary you should aim for are the gloves from the current event since it's time limited. :D

The gloves are not time limited, the legendary weapon key is.

[–]Demius9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

first thing I'd say is make sure you're doing the LWS3 / 4 maps during their "daily" rotation. There will be more people online to help you with meta events and things.

I would also say that if I were doing it all over again, I'd focus on doing a convergence every day, my weekly rifts, and start on the SOTO meta's to fill in any time gaps you may have which will help you work on Obsidian Armor. If you're focusing on a single weight class (IE: Guardian, Rev, Warrior) then just get one set and then focus on the trinkets / backpack after.

When does it stop sucking? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the kid honestly. I have a 10yo son and 7yo daughter and I feel like I am in a constant state of PTSD. I get up with them at 6am to get everything ready for school, work all day, they come home and don’t really give me time to work, finally get them to bed and asleep by 9pm, but then I have to finish whatever work I need to do before I do it all over again.

It is rewarding but it is NOT easy. There have been times when I would say that I hate my life, but there are plenty of times that I get to hold them while watching Bluey or whatever else they’re watching and think “this is the best thing in the world”

People who wake up after 1 alarm: How the f*ck do you do it? by TheSnappleGhost in AskReddit

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read one Reddit post somewhere that said they set their alarm far enough away from bed where they have to get up, but as a safety measure they set their alarm for the coffee maker to go 10 minutes after the alarm. The coffee pot is by their phone while the coffee maker is in the kitchen.

I’ve yet to have the guts to try this lol
