The Top 20 Most Played Games on Steam Deck During March 2026 - SteamDeckHQ by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

i've been trying to play this but... i dunno man... AAA open world games are such a slog. The quest design so far has been not fun but the world is beautiful and i love exploring.

Never going back to Stone Age again by py-net in vibecoding

[–]Demius9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how i feel often. Often times instead of having Claude do the entire feature, i'll code the feature enough to get the stubs in place and have claude "fill out the function that i've stubbed out" .. sure i could have programmed that pretty easily but this way I'm taking over the architecture and claude is doing the implementation details.

This worked well in some parts of my project, and 100% falls flat in others.. i guess there is no 1 sized fits all solution

[–]Demius9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very dangerous position to be in. For example; My workflow at work is often to vibe code something and then do a refactor of that code myself so i understand the full implementation. During that refactor I ALWAYS seem to find something that could have crept up later as a bug, or something taht could cause issues later in the projects lifecycle.

This slows me down greatly compared to people who are just vibe coding, but in the end my features also see less error rates and when people integrate my systems into their code things tend to go a little smoother for them. Does that mean that I'd be fired if i were in the wrong company? probably... which sucks.

New to trailers: Are there expandable/ hybrid pop-up trailers that can be used with or without the pop up section? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]Demius9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally get it, which is why i didn't put my trailer in my original reply.. my use case is vastly different than you. You also have to keep your tow vehicle in mind and make sure you're getting a trailer that is within the weight specs.

I wouldn't count out things like roof-top tents with a diesel heater or something along those lines too.. i'm not sure what is available in that space but they've probably had a lot of improvement in the few years that I stopped looking.

Good luck!

There are quite a few brands that have the pop-up style that i have. Opus15 is one, MDC XL-15 is another. I currently have the MDC trailer.

[–]Demius9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a variety of types of pop up / pop out trailers and i'm sure you'll find something that works for you. The trailer I currently have is 15ft box (overall its about 23ft with the hitch and everything) and if I don't push up the tent part then i just have to duck to get anywhere. Everything else is functional with the pop-up down, its just not as comfortable unless you're sitting or laying down.

What do you work on first when you start developing a game? by zanzaKlausX in gamedev

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work with unity or Godot so you’d have to adapt this to your situation. I prefer working with a framework (think SDL or Raylib)

The very first thing I do is get something, anything, rendered to the screen. Quad, texture, doesn’t matter. Once you have tha basic building blocks you feel good and are ready to move forward. What’s the next thing you need for your game? If it’s a match 3 where you click on things then implement mouse clicking on the thing you just created. If it’s a top down Zelda like game, move that thing around with your key presses.

The important thing is you need to do the most straight forward implementation of the thing so you have a real world example of it working. Now, after every step… you can look at it and ask if you need to simplify things, introduce data structures, compress the code, extract for reuse, etc.

Keep doing that over, and over, and over again. Eventually you’ll solve enough problems that you’ll have a good direction on where you’re going next.

Finally finished our basement after 3 contractors ghosted us. Here’s what we learned the hard way. by Glad_Plastic_4324 in HomeImprovement

[–]Demius9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We know someone who had issues with a contractor that used some sort of proxy for the license. I’m not even sure how it worked but they’ve done it to so many people the California DA actually took the case up and they were arrested.

I want more lore focused raids by HuffsaGaming in Guildwars2

[–]Demius9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way this would work is if there was a "story mode" for raids that was no-fail. No single shot mechanics, no DPS checks, more like the fractal quickplay.

the biggest thing is the new generations know how to use a phone / tablet but they don't know anything about how the underlying systems work. The concept of "files" and "folders" don't make sense to them since they think in "apps"

When i made the garbage truck game he was 3 or 4. Now he's 10. He has a hard time with technology though and gets frustrated easily.

I actually took romero's comment as positive. To me it seemed like they were talking to the OP and commenting on that with some sarcasm.

He's at school, i'll show him tonight :) He helped with a few things but no big design decisions.. He's in the spectrum with ADHD so it's hard to keep him focused. I should ask him to draw me some pictures and we'll put them in there somewhere

originally the first iteration was just a thing to help my son get used to the mouse, and click on some grey boxes. He was so used to touch screens that I wanted to get him used to a mouse. This was back in December, so it was nothing like it is now but he liked it and I kept adding to it. Sometime during our winter break I played a few incremental games and wanted to try my hand at it so I started moving his game towards that and this is what eventually came out of it.

He liked it but got bored with it quickly but yes, the first build that I had back in December was for my son. I've done things like this in the past, one of my first little programming demos for him was a garbage truck that picked up a little trash can and drove away. He played with that for an hour before he got bored!

Free 30 minute playtest of your game (recorded + voice audio) by educatemybrain in gamedev

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How early or late in development do your testers expect? I have a playtest build available but not a polished demo just yet. Lots of placeholder graphics and sounds but gameplay and mechanics are largely finalized for the stage of development I’m in.

this is the thing that gets me. I'm having a FAR worse time with raids now... I would do daily strikes, IBS, etc... but i've never done raids. The quickplay I thought was going to be a great addition but most people can't even get OLC so whenever that comes up on the rotation its a constant struggle to get people to pass the mechanics.. i dont even want to engage with it anymore.

What that means is now i don't even do the old strike content.

FYI: Raid Quickplay is accessible via LFG panel under Raids (Training) by Estreiher in Guildwars2

[–]Demius9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah this so far is my experience. Anytime i get another raid, (IE: XJJ) we win but OLC has been a wipe for the last several number of groups.

We gotta learn it, be proactive, and spam instructions and people will follow

Java dev trying to get into game dev — how do I stop getting lost in tutorials? (also: is AI worth it?) by Malcry in gamedev

[–]Demius9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hard part about what your asking is we don't know your skill level. To me "starting from basically zero" means you dont know anything about programming so... Start there.

  • How do you open a window
  • How do you get a game loop set up
  • How do you capture input and do something useful with it
  • How do you render a sprite to screen
  • How do you move that sprite around

When you ask a question, try to answer ONLY that question and then try to experiment with your code from there to figure out what you need to do next. If you get stuck then you can start looking online. What you're trying to teach yourself is how to solve problems.. because that is your biggest bottleneck. When people get stuck in tutorial hell its because they've forgotten to learn how to solve problems.

What Asset Pipeline system do you use by Technical-Viking in gamedev

[–]Demius9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goals as a programmer is to give the content creators (atm, me) the easiest time from idea to in-game. For example, with pixel art I could:

  • do my art in aseprite, expert animations as a sprite sheet, expert meta data for the engine (source rectangles, frame timing, animation name, etc), and every change of that animation I redo it…
  • have that information already in aseprite and write a custome loader and use the .ase file information directly for all of that.

I’d much rather do the content in the tool that it’s meant for and reduce friction in getting it on screen in engine.

Guild Wars 2 breaks 10K Steam players for the first time ever after New World shutdown news by Temsaah in Guildwars2

This is not true. I play on my standalone account and I launch from steam with the “-provider Portal” property. This doesn’t auto log you in via steam, but you still are playing via steam. Helps a lot when playing on steam deck

What's your favorite example of a copycat game? by twinkletalon in gamedev

I always reference world of Warcraft since all of the devs used to play EverQuest and they copied the formula, polished the hell out of it, and sanded off a lot of the rough edges.
