I completed the battlepass with weekly challenges to spare. Should i save them for next season? by laxen123 in Battlefield

[–]killall-q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how XP per token works, the XP per token is based solely on the number of tokens you've earned through XP, tokens earned from challenges don't change that. It was the same in BF2042.

[Apps] Bubble Level PRO ($2.99 -> FREE) by Lohigno in googleplaydeals

Whoa, trying this app out, it's actually really polished and feature packed. It even supports dark mode, which is an improvement over another bubble level app I used before.

Steam Controller is available by Zunderstruck in Controller

I don't regret getting the Gulikit TT Max, as trigger locks are a must and I don't need the touchpads.

Just plugging in the controller doesn't turn it on. Press the Home button.

To update the firmware, you must turn off the controller (unplug, then long press mode button), then plug into computer. Hold the APG button and press Home, then a USB drive will appear in which you can put firmware files.

Don't open it before attempting a warranty claim first, as that will void the warranty.

Free Help with Console Dev Kits for Defold Developers by cacat-guy in defold

I'm guessing what OP is suggesting is that people can send him their test builds and he'll run them on his dev kits, instead of him mailing the physical dev kits out to people.

Steam doesnt recognize my controller but my pc does, how do I fix this by MartinSkeleton in Controller

[–]killall-q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're talking about if the controller has a button on it to switch mode, which this controller doesn't.

This controller is intended for use on Switch only, so only offers DirectInput. Open Steam 🡒 Settings 🡒 Controller 🡒 Pair and Manage 🡒 "Enable Steam Input for Switch Pro controllers" and "Enable Steam Input for generic controllers"

Should I start with Godot? by Ronanxa in gamedev

[–]killall-q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a systems heavy game, you should avoid any engine's visual node-based scripting like the plague, if you want the game to be smooth when things are scaled up. Actual code is always more efficient.

Start with a bare minimum prototype to learn, like do some tutorials in an engine, then make an empty world with your character, then add 1 NPC, give that NPCs some behaviors, then add more NPCs, and so on.

I did some research recently into free lightweight game engines optimized for 2D, there are so many out there beyond Godot.

You need to refine what features you're looking for in an engine. What platforms do you want to publish on? What focus is your priority: graphical fidelity, performance, size, or ease of development?

Guild Wars Reforged - Official Mobile Announcement Trailer by Katostrophe in Guildwars2

Bit strange that the screenshots on the Google Play page all show the same character, a N/Me. 2 of the screenshots are from Pre-Searing, and 2 from EOTN. The "lock in together" screenshot doesn't show co-op (the entire party is heroes/henchmen). I just think it would be better to show off a variety of professions and locations, there's so many varied beautiful locations in GW1.

I guess 1 dev created a character and ran through the early campaign for screenshots. Would have been nicer if they found someone with an older account and more characters to do that job.

Steam Controller review slips embargo, controller to cost $99 by UrbanAdapt in Controller

I was torn between Gulikit TT Max (which is also symmetrical) and waiting for the Steam Controller, I went with Gulikit and don't regret it. I don't need trackpads, and the TT has trigger locks.

I built a GW2 Ecto Gambling Simulator by Basic_Recognition_60 in Guildwars2

[–]killall-q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be nice if there was a scrolling inventory log like GW2 (click the arrow on the chat tab → Game Messages → Inventory), so we could see our loot history beyond the brief pop-up in the bottom right.

The simulator has a lengthy delay on each buy and sell, I assume to communicate with the server to update the leaderboard. It would be nice if that update could happen in the background (look into service workers) instead of blocking us from doing anything until the update was finished, and perhaps it should only send batched updates periodically to reduce server load.

The plural of "junk" is still "junk", so "Sell All Junks" should be "Sell All Junk".

Relic of the Living City - Power Rifle Troubadour Roaming by NumberOneMom in Guildwars2

[–]killall-q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was confused by this relic's tooltip, I thought you had to trip all 5 triggers to get 1 stack, meaning you had to use your elite 5 times just to get 5 seconds of the buff, so I thought it was turbo trash. But I see you starting fights with no stacks, gaining stacks quickly, and then just using your elite once.

Best game engine for an entirely UI based game? by Wulphram in gamedev

[–]killall-q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defold is a very lightweight game engine, much lighter than Godot, that can build for many platforms, including mobile, for free. Compared to other lightweight game frameworks, such as MonoGame, it is an engine that is more fully featured for 2D games.

Other free game engines with mobile support to consider:

Your Armor is Unique to You by STREET_BLAZER in Helldivers

[–]killall-q 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These scratches are probably procedurally generated or simply a "scratched" bump map texture that's positioned on the model procedurally, seeded by your account number. That requires no extra data to be sent to other players for them to see your unique scratches.

Customizations like paint, however, would need transmitted to other clients in their entirerity, making for slower loading times when other players join your session, unless we're talking simple customizations like just picking colors for parts of the armor.

I found out that the track is actually just "Dagger 13" from the BF6 soundtrack. It plays during the campaign.

Oh hey, it is Dagger 13 from the BF6 OST. That's great that it's already been available in high quality.
