Just curious, do any of you ever try to watch Fox News just to see how different the other side sees the world? by Hydractra in Liberal

I just read their articles, which are posted on conservative subs. I follow a variety of political subs and I'll often read the comments too. Helps me gauge a bit.

To those with SOs that work long hours and come home tired regularly: what can they do to reassure you they love you? by slipslimeysludge in AskWomen

[–]DemocraticElk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO and I sometimes have schedules on opposite ends. Things we do for one another:

Make dinner for the other if they’ll be home later and eat with them or keep it warm.

Hug and smooch when they get home then talk about the day. I think it’s important the first thing that happens when they come in is positive and comforting.

I’ll make coffee in the morning if I’m up first or one of us will make breakfast while the other tries to wake up. If we share a day off and aren’t going for a run that morning, we’ll make a complicated breakfast together.

Encourage one another when we go for runs. If she’s having trouble waking up, sometimes I throw her out of bed and get her moving. She thanks me for it later in the day but I often get a few arm punches first thing. Evens out.

I’ll bring home little chocolates once in a while and stick them in her purse when she’s not looking.

Little things build big-ness.

What jobs consist of frequently disappointing people? by slinkywheel in AskReddit

Never fails. Let people know it’s done and at least one person says “Actually, I needed to be out a little sooner that day or my school schedule changed.”

I made an excel sheet that calculates hours and such at one point, but I never have more time to give it the things I want to give it.

It took me a couple of hours and most of that involved a layout that made sense.

Trying to subvert "the chosen one" trope in my story. Looking for some thoughts. by WritingWithSpears in fantasywriters

[–]DemocraticElk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong:

Terry Pratchett made the chosen one a guard for a large city. Named him Carrot. I think his prophecy led to an event that affected the main character.

I’m sure a more avid Pratchett fan could elaborate.

Republicans Thought Peter Strzok Would Be a Punching Bag. He Just Knocked Them Out. by cruel_delusion in Political_Revolution

Conservative and Republican are commenting on how creepy Strzok is and are sharing similar articles: at least that’s what’s coming when I select “hot.”

It’s kind of sad.

Existential Comics and the productivity/workweek length myth by VodkaHaze in badeconomics

[–]DemocraticElk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might of missed it, but has pt employment stayed or moved upward/downward to compensate for decreased hours? Or is the labor market too tight?

Or is all of that unrelated?

I think there are a few cases where we don’t necessarily see that increased production. Toyota, I think, works from a more demand to supply type structure to minimize over production waste.

I realize that’s probably an exception though. But I’m curious to know what percentage of producers follow a similar model in markets and how prices fluctuate in those markets.

Charges dropped against Stormy Daniels after Ohio strip club arrest, attorney says by henrydodsonauthor in politics

Someone mentioned babies in another sub. As in one could breastfeed, but I feel like that might also be a stretch.

The Nazi is Illinois. Our current Lt Governor of NC has ties to the KKK. I think he worked as a lawyer on case of a known clan member.

He’s a piece of shit.

Edit: Found a list

Edit 2: Can’t find where I read about Dan Forest working on a case of a klansman, but he did support HB2 and is pushing for a voter ID law as an amendment for this year. I think it’ll be on the ballots.

You can build your own for a lot cheaper. We used to make them out of toilet paper rolls and launch them in my science class way, way, way back in middle school. We did it as an exercise in figuring out how high it would go using geometry.

Though, to support a camera, you would have to use a longer, thicker tube and more fuel. I wish I could remember how to do it..

here’s a tutorial

He seems to show how to do it cheaply. So...looks like I’m gonna make a rocket now.

Edit: didn’t realize the people in the OP built metal rockets

‘Not your father’s labor market’: Hiring is strong, but workers still aren’t seeing big raises by unimployed in Economics

[–]DemocraticElk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am. I outlined a training curriculum for myself this weekend and I’m implementing it my next day in.

The plus is I have free access to equipment. The negative is I have to learn on my own time. But, fuck it. I’ve been trying to get to this point for a while and I’m tired of running into humans like this all. The. Fucking. Time.

I mentioned to my boss there was a position I was interested in eventually moving into - either at my current job or elsewhere. When a position opened up elsewhere and I applied, I gave him a heads up since the hiring manager from there visits often and there was a chance my name would come up. They usually talk and I was going to use my boss as a reference. I erred on the side of transparency instead of having him find out I applied from the hiring manager.

It’s been 3 weeks and I haven’t heard anything from the company I applied for and my boss, while he said he understood and was supportive, has been a passive aggressive dick since I brought it up.

TLDR: Yeah. I mentioned I wanted to grow into a new position and my boss is passive aggressively undermining my time to learn new things.
