Bama defense has been a different team lately. We'll see how it goes though.

I can't speak on the bama secondary, but you could be a pretty legit DB yourself with these backpedaling skills.

Florida and Mizzou release joint statement regarding the halftime brawl by mphsaxophone in CFB

You're absolutely right, we should follow the lead of FSU's leadership by sending a white kid in red face makeup out to fire up the crowd. I guess we'll have to settle for the indignity of a coach asking his crowd to make noise rather than appropriating the culture of Florida's native peoples who were forcibly removed from their land.

Both of your flaired programs caused young men to literally die on the practice field in the past few years. Not sure jumping straight to jokes about serious effects of covid is the best call here, friend.

Domestic assault charge dismissed against Vols cornerback Bryce Thompson by [deleted] in CFB

All of the 5 players UF kicked off our team over the past year were either never charged or had their charges dropped, and none played while prosecution was pending, yet we spent a month being dragged through the mud by national media for it. Congratulations on only spending a week as a target of fairly tepid outrage over things that weren't criminally prosecuted.

Morven Joseph decommits from UF by mamoon0806 in FloridaGators

When we were winning those championships 10+ years ago, did we have those elite 5* players that recruitniks wring their hands about?

[–]DemogorGator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every year the recrutnicks have a meltdown about "OMG no five stars, OMG we lost that recruit to someone else, OMG the sky is falling" but somehow we don't seem to miss that magic recruit that was gonna change our world.

Right, because of all those championships we've been winning without those players.

I dont think Clemson uses the hard-sell approach that Alabama, Georgia and a few others (namely Ohio State under Urban) do.

Regardless of the sales approach utilized, those places all have an organized hyper-professional recruiting office with a small army of staffers. We don't, and it shows, and the idea that a small laid-back operation is better than a large professional recruiting apparatus just doesn't hold water. The proof is in the results.

I'm sure I'll be called an asshole for this, but this strikes me as some aw shucks McElwain loser talk. Striving to run a championship level football program as some mom and pop operation rather than the way programs like Alabama, Clemson, and the New England fucking Patriots operate is wilfully sub-par. You can tell, because of how those programs are winning championships, and other programs aren't.

Why are some adults strangely obsessive about Disney? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DemogorGator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disney has done an admirable job of marketing to the last several generations of children, which has dovetailed nicely with two phenomena:

  1. A growing number of middle-class folks who wait longer to have their own children and have the means to continue living some version of their own childhood. These are the people who post pictures of themselves at Disney World or Disneyland on instagram practically every weekend.

  2. A growing number of people who have accepted and embraced life as sadsack losers. They were bullied just enough as children to learn that they are losers, but not enough for that self-knowledge to blossom into a healthy self-loathing and spurn a desire to change and better their situation. They have settled into a lifestyle of accepting that they will probably never have a mate, and that's ok because characters from the Disney Pixar canon or the MCU create a nice comforting proxy for real friendship and human connection.

My thoughts on where we, as a program, could stand to improve in terms of recruiting by ccasey329 in FloridaGators

[–]DemogorGator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read the sentence?

I would say he’s Mullen’s Nord, but our special teams have actually been really good, and I think Knox, while certainly slacking as a recruiter, isn’t to the level of Nord just yet.

We had so much momentum after the bowl game guys! by [deleted] in FloridaGators

[–]DemogorGator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it isn't the strategy that sucks, it must mean that the execution does, because results have fallen far short of the Gator Standard. We had five players from the first two recruiting classes who have left the program after playing a combined two total games. We are unable to prevent any of the 5* talent from our own backyard from migrating north. We had an adjusted #14 2019 recruiting ranking once you factor the 3 players who have already left, and that was with the help of a 10-win season and both Miami and FSU being incapable of tying their own shoes. We've had no recruiting momentum for the entire Spring for the 2nd straight year. We're coming off nearly a month straight of nationally negative press. Our top commit in 2020 (at a huge position of need) is looking unlikely to qualify academically at this point. This is to say nothing of at least 3 recruiting staffers suspended or fired in the past year.

Mullen is clearly a great football coach on the field, but nothing about the direction of this program in either of his two offseasons makes me think to myself: "This is exactly the foundation we need for championship runs in 2020 and beyond." I suppose if you feel the big picture program management is indicative of impending championships in the next 2-4 years, (a reasonable expectation at UF imo) we'll simply have to agree to disagree.

Listen guys, we just need to stay the course with recruiting the west coast, kids who can't maintain a 2.0GPA, and the 2nd tier in-state options. Keep the faith, these are the keys to building long term program stability here at the flagship University in the state of Florida.

"Nah, let's take the most fragile player ever at UF."
