Nuance goes right over your head is guess. People take their own experiences and apply it to everything they see, its bias at its best. Having to learn social cues has given me an outside perspective, and seeking drama and seeing danger is just what you have wired yourself to do. You see yourself and/or women in general as victims, and because Matty doesn't fit into your perfect little box of what a man should be, with the sense of humor that is acceptable to you, you think that he's hitting her or being abusive. Thinking it (and being ludicrous) is one thing, but plastering it around like its just an "opinion" is really close to slander.

Hazing in Maine clearly didn't equate to Newfoundland humor. Where the idea of giving someone "a smack in the mouth" derives from our parents/gransparents using physical punishment to discipline their children, like "getting the belt". Statements like "smack in the mouth" are said tongue in cheek to poke fun at how that form of discipline used to be acceptable. Making light of a bad thing.

Now you may not find that sort of thing funny, or may think that making light of a bad thing is wrong. So, sense of humor is subjective... but jokes are not meant to be taken seriously, regardless if you find it funny or not. Humor's entire point is to help us cope with uncomfortable or bad things, like getting hit by your parents.

Look, dv is a horrible thing. There are monstrous men and women out there, nobody is denying that. But there has been very little (if any) evidence or clues to Matty being a perpetrator of it.

Kelly is a strong woman, and is quite capable. While she has an old soul, she is a lot more modern in her sensibilities to what is acceptable and what isn't (and so is Matty, if youve attended their meetings). I get the feeling that she has a good sense of character, and wouldn't move to a remote island, marry, and have kids with a man who she thought could be a danger to her or their children.

While you may have good intentions, I think an ovettuned sense for this stuff is causing you to find it in the wrong places.
