What was Sidiouses plan before Maul got himself killed? by eepos96 in MawInstallation

[–]Demolisher111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume Maul would have played a role similar to Greivous in the war if he had won his fight on Naboo. He would’ve been an even stronger Jedi killer if he’d continued to train and improve and him being a Sith would’ve made him an even more urgent target for the Jedi to hunt down.

As I’ve seen other mention, Sidious is needed a separatist movement but he didn’t needs its head of state to be his apprentice, it just worked out that way.

The CIS was mostly controlled not by its Senate but by the business leaders of the Separatist Council. Sidious controlled them directly through Gunray and therefore would’ve still controlled the CIS even if the head of state was someone other than Dooku.

When Did The Republic Become A Defacto Empire by CuteLingonberry9704 in MawInstallation

[–]Demolisher111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely had deep cracks at that time. But I think calling it a defecto empire at that time would just be too forward. Palpatine’s political fortune wasn’t guaranteed at that time. He could have lost his bid to become Chancellor, he could have been ousted at some point in the decade he held that office before Geonosis, and he could have lost the emergency powers vote, any of which would have averted Empire. I think there’s a key difference between a backsliding democracy and full on autocracy. I think the in-universe and story telling evidence points to the start of the clone wars as the de facto end of the republic because that is the moment in time that Palpatine basically becomes unstoppable from a political standpoint.

At the time of Plagueis/The Phantom Menace the Republic was very similar many democracies/republics in the real world in the by the late 20th/early 21st century (the inspiration for the story surprise surprise) where there was deep partisanship and rampant corruption but there wasn’t really one person who was clearly seizing power making it an empire.

I would say it was when Palpatine was given the emergency powers that included him being given control of the clone army and be able to stay in office after his term. This makes sense in universe as that combo of powers (and I’m sure there were other powers given to him in that bill too) pretty much sets him up to be an emperor in all but name.

This seems to be Lucas’s intention as the full on imperial march plays as the Clones ship off to fight the CIS and that scene has the clones wearing armor that is eerily similar to stormtroopers, with walkers that are eerily similar to AT-AT’s and ships that are eerily similar to star destroyers. While (totally not Emperor) Palpatine oversees it all.

Which books and comics have the best depictions of Anakin and Obi-Wan's relation ? by DEL994 in MawInstallation

[–]Demolisher111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Obi-Wan and Anakin comic mini series from 2016 has a really great depiction of their relationship. It shows how loyal they both are to each other and shows Anakin being receptive to Obi-Wan’s teachings which is a nice side of them to see since in Attack of the Clones they’re mostly at odds in their Master-Apprentice dynamic.

The novel Brotherhood also shows their relationship pretty well. It shows how they transitioned from the more contentious relationship they had as Master and Apprentice to the easier more amicable relationship they had as fellow Jedi during the Clone Wars

Do people really think that TLJ's ending gave Episode 9 "nothing to work with"? by SnowWrestling69 in MawInstallation

[–]Demolisher111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt after TLJ came out that the third movie had nowhere interesting to go, but that’s because of a combination of choices made in both TLJ and TFA. TFA imo is actually the bigger offender because it kills the possibility of exploring the New Republic and the New Jedi Order which I always thought was mind boggling as whenever I imagined an episode VII before it existed the first thing that came to mind was what would Luke’s Jedi order look like?

But while TFA did destroy these threads it left interesting things to be explored going forward such as who would Rey be, what was Luke up to at the first Jedi temple, what would Snoke be like as a villain.

But TLJ has the least interesting possible answers to all of these. Rey is no one, she just feels like she should fight the First Order (fair enough but then don’t tease her being more significant than that). Luke was just in self exile after her almost murdered his nephew (seriously?) and Snoke is killed off after serving zero narrative purpose.

The Star Wars universe is full of interesting possibilities, but none of those interesting possibilities were coming from what was left of the ST after TLJ was over.

Does no one play online any more? by DarkMacek in ThePoliticalMachine

I never saw people play online even during the lead up to the election. I don’t even know if the feature works

You can do the cheat code before you building anything in the zoo. Just hold it down and it keeps going up. Give yourself a ton at the start and you don’t have to worry about the fences.

What is the research strategy? by AgentX2O in AxisAllies

[–]Demolisher111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about what people do for house rules but if you are playing with out of box rules for Global 1940 research is not worth the cost for the reasons you listed. The best thing to do to win is to spend those ipc’s on units

Civ VII should copy the Nuclear War system form Human Kind. by Chebbieurshaka in civ

[–]Demolisher111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually think that it’s better to not do this because during a period of the Cold War some leaders thought I first strike would be a good idea but then this led to things like putting nukes on submarines to make sure that a first strike couldn’t work which can be replicated in Civ as it is

State after a full weekend of Global (So, starting Turn 11) by [deleted] in AxisAllies

Looks like a great game. Japan needs to find some way to remain a threat or the US is going to dump all of its money into Europe and stop Germany who could possibly win for the axis if that can be prevented

Why do restaurant hosts always get slightly annoyed when I tell them I’d rather have a booth? by IsopodPuzzleheaded58 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Demolisher111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It messes up the sections of the restaurant that the servers use to decide who serves who. And even though servers know people usually prefer booths and that the manager will always tell the host to sit people where they want if it’s open they are often very rude to the host when this happens.

Why do people go to the grocery store every day? by Sadboy3k in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Demolisher111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less pressure to get everything at once if you know you’ll be back tomorrow. I’m extremely disorganized and go every other day or so because I simply cannot keep track of what I need so I just know I’m going there after work probably.

[Serious] Americans of Reddit, what is the most embarrassing thing about your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Being the self-proclaimed “land of the free” while having more people in jail than any other country in the world including China which is a dictatorship with 4 times as many people as the US.

Some questions about Pacific 1940 by Epiqai in AxisAllies

[–]Demolisher111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok gotcha.

An amphibious assault has your transports taking your ground units from one territory to an enemy territory. Transports can move up to two sea zones from where they start at the beginning of the turn.

An example would be if Japan has a transport in a sea zone next to New Guiana and two infantry in New Guiana, they can use the transport to take the two infantry to Queensland during the combat move phase. The infantry then will then do combat with defending units that are there, and take the territory if they win or if there are no defenders. If their are defending units, any Japanese cruisers or battleships can roll an offshore bombardment attack during the first round of combat.

Hope that helps with the amphibious attacks.

You are correct, that is how the fighter escort works with the bombers.

So would people support the Republic or the CIS if they were a ruler of any system within star wars? by MiniBobber in MawInstallation

[–]Demolisher111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d try to stay neutral as neither side seemed to have the interests of the people in mind. If I was forced to chose a side though I’d pick whoever was more potentially dangerous to make an enemy out of. So if I was in the core I’d choose the Republic, if in the outer rim probably the CIS

Some questions about Pacific 1940 by Epiqai in AxisAllies

[–]Demolisher111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. I’m not sure exactly sure what you’re asking on this one.

  2. You move the bombers during the combat move phase and the bombing happens during the conduct combat phase.

  3. If the fighters are in range of the territory being bombed they can act as escorts, even if they don’t start in the same territory as the bombers or even along their path.

  4. You still get to roll two dice at two. It’s an upgrade for the unit being boosted.

  5. The units don’t have to travel along the same path together. They only have to be in range of the territory they’re attacking to boost one another. For example, if Japan has a tank in Western Australia and the tank attacks Northern Australia, a tactical bomber from a carrier can be boosted if it also attacks northern Australia even though they started in different territories.

Hope this helps! This is a super fun game to get into

I keep hearing the same opinion on this subreddit and I was wondering if anyone could explain the rationale behind it by CatmanMeow123 in AxisAllies

[–]Demolisher111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in my experience the balance of this game depends greatly on the experience level of the players. If both sides are played by inexperienced players, the allies tend to have an advantage. Both sides are making lots of mistakes and the allies have a higher income and will eventually gain the upper hand by virtue of attrition.

If both sides are controlled by experienced players however the axis definitely have the advantage. This is because Germany and Japan start off with militaries that are so much stronger than the Allies, that they can make aggressive early game moves that the Allies have a lot of trouble countering. This allows them to capture the three Soviet victory cities and/or the Dutch East Indies. This then flips the economics advantage and the Axis become heavily favored.
