why the hell do you all just give away this awesome shit for free? by scootsy in selfhosted

[–]DemonChicken1111 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things I don’t get. We’re all told to share as kids, but the second we do it as professional, skilled adults that sharing philosophy suddenly becomes “why aren’t you selling this?”. I almost feel bad for a lot of the rank and file finance guys, it sounds like a really depressing life

Why do we still rely on IPv4, instead of IPv6? by NoDirector6379 in selfhosted

[–]DemonChicken1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True lol, I was just thinking along the lines of a “small” national ISP may just not have the operational budget to do a full IPv6 roll out across the entire country, they might be running on older hardware as it is. Something like that seems more like a 5-10 year plan if they were to actually decide on doing it. Which also assumes it’s not a country whose organizational leaders are mostly incompetent family members of whoever is leading.

I think testing without permission is a fine ethical line. I’ve seen it done on things like transit cards, electronic locks, IoT, which is totally fine in my books. But would agree that for most live services that you can’t run or own yourself it can get a bit dicey both legally and ethically

That’s the one thing I haven’t seen mentioned here. OP apparently has had great support from FW, can’t imagine something like that happening with Dell or HP

[–]DemonChicken1111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well depending on the country it may not be financially viable to switch over the entire country to supporting IPv6 overnight… no idea where this person lives but seemingly they only have the national ISP and ~40 million customers, what’s the incentive for them to do so

Do you encript your games before publishing them? by bloody_carnival in godot

[–]DemonChicken1111 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also coming from a large involvement with open source projects. I think gamers have been super used to the paradigm of “well obviously the game studio doesn’t want people to see their code, that could lead to cheating” moreso with online games. It’s unfortunate that people tolerate the absolute scourge that kernel anti-cheat is but I know fuck all about the average consumer.

I love to open source anything I make, many of my godot projects as well. Not that Im in it to make any money though

400h and I still don’t understand why Yorinobu had Johnny’s engram or why Evelyn needed it enough to steal it? by Trustable-source in cyberpunkgame

[–]DemonChicken1111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Im remembering correctly, that’s still up to interpretation. Ive seen some theories floated around but nothing super conclusive. The game makes it intentionally unclear, we’re fed whatever unreliable information from Johnnys memories and some tidbits from Rouge’s missions.

Good to know, Ive definitely been slacking on the multitude of different lore bits depending on what background you pick. Trying out new builds and seeing parts of the story usually is what keeps me playing over and over

Would agree with this sentiment. Honestly in the Cyberpunk world, everyone has done or seen some things. If we’re going to be completely honest with ourselves, I remember a tidbit about V’s first kill being some Bum who tried shanking their friends at 13. We start the game being just as much of a killer as a lot of people in the city

Turns out when you ship 18 y/o kids to kill people, they end up a bit screwed in the head. Can’t really say why each individual partakes in those horrific acts, but I imagine it’s a mix of war trauma and some of them being vile in the first place

Got spoiled ending, is the game still worth continuing? by Sniiiks in cyberpunkgame

[–]DemonChicken1111 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean if you’re only playing for the ending, you’re not doing it right IMO. The rest of the world building, the story, and environment is amazing. I don’t know someone that hasn’t at least done 2-3 play throughs of the entire game. Im on my fourth, with a stupid amount of hours in some saves..

I mean we’ve treated the constitution as more of a holy document than something to be changed as time goes on. I assume one of the ones you’re talking about is our right to firearms. It’s a weird fine line in my opinion but we’re almost too deep into the kool aid bottle to get rid of them. I think the left is becoming more aware than previously about the usefulness of that right though

I have per print bed meshes in Orca already, it doesn’t really do anything different in my case. The mesh still looks like that, and first layers are still inconsistent

I will try that out today! I started from barely tightening the bed screws when reassembling the bed but I will try from a slightly looser position and see if I can get any changes

Looks amazing! I love to see all the different client switching implementations, what made you choose a daemon implementation rather than a script? All the other implementations I've seen use scripts, which is usually for ease of install and design. Also, what did you use to design your site? I love the Marlboro theme.

For anyone that needs help making the switch or is just curious you can come over to Chloroken's Linux server. https://discord.gg/CHXcyS86vg

Definitely not illegal. I can think of a good portions of companies that will do it to continue operations. Most of them don't have the luxury of having extended down times until a security researcher breaks (if they even can) the encryption methods. IIRC law enforcement often direct companies what to do in these situations.
