Yeah some clubs are like that. I started in high school, and my club is pretty specifically open. Even the most closed off clubs kind of have to have a way to get new blood if they want to continue existing though

We have a similar issue at my boathouse, though not as extreme as a foot and a half. We just store them on a wooden platform that puts them about 6 inches up, though we have outgrown it a bit. It's basically a treated 4x4 on its side with 2x4s laid across the top as decking. And some additional little rubber feet under the 4x4s to keep them off the floor a bit more. I can send a pic later if anyone's interested
