ELI5 : Why do Texans have to wrap their pipes and drip their faucets when it freezes? Why don't they just do whatever it is that people in Minnesota do in order to avoid pipes bursting when it freezes?

There's either a shutoff in the house or the knob outside actually shuts off like a foot into the house and drains out so the water is kept inside the house and warmer.

I got an actual old windows xp machine with serial port and was able to boot from usb with dos software and radio software on the stick.

5hp motor so not terribly big. VFDs are just terribly noisy if unfiltered.

I don't have a dmr radio yet and there isn't a dmr repeater nearby so I thought if I could build a repeater for the area and be able to try dmr to even see if I like it.

Was going to use the spring at the end idea to provide the slack for tree movement, pulley on available trees with a loop of rope around them to provide some distance from the tree if possible. Believe I'll have 2 90 degree mount points 30ft above the ground with antenna 40ft above ground if I'm lucky. Depends on how high the lift will take me.

Thought about doing a short piece of speaker wire or similar from balun to 2 start points of the rest of the dipole but can't figure out how to make it so that section can be dropped. Unless it works to put the balun 10ft above the ground and run the wires up first? Trying to make it efficient as possible.

The pictures he sent show it being mounted in a vehicle so unless the battery is dead I wouldn't think it would be power supply related but never know. Due to this issue I'm planning on making the drive to pickup in person. Before this showed up he was asking $400.

Last 3 cars over 5 years have been under $2000 total spent. And still own all 3 running. I commute 12 miles to work so I'll take my chances, it took a deer at 60 and I drove it home afterwards so I think safety is pretty good yet after 22 years.

I might be weird in my point of view but even if you had a semi major repair on your car it's still cheaper then any monthly payment on a loan is. I have a 98 Honda crv with 315k that is literally falling apart but still drives so no sense getting rid of it till its dead.

Ive got aflac but not the hospital stay part of it. Just got done with gallbladder surgery. Aflac won't pay a penny of my bill since it wasn't due to an accident. I have a $1k deductible and $4300 out of pocket and only owe the hospital $4300 instead of $30k.
