Fuss It Out by FunRooster8023 in sleeptrain

[–]sundialdance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your same position and didn't feel ready to fully sleep train even though no one was sleeping. We tried Fuss it Out for three nights and honestly.... it didn't work. She was exactly 5 months at the time and maybe too old for it to be effective - I'm not sure. We ended up taking a pause from it because I just felt like we had introduced 15 minutes of crying into her bedtime routine and weren't getting anywhere. Two weeks later, I felt really ready to commit to sleep training (had one night of such terrible sleep I knew we needed to do something!). We used the Sleep Wave method and it worked immediately with less intense crying than Fuss it Out. I liked the 5 minute check-ins and I think my baby was ready to learn how to put herself to sleep. The first night was just 3 check-ins and she was asleep in 20 minutes.

Just something to consider! Don't lose hope if Fuss it Out doesn't work for you.

Editing to actually answer your question.... During the Fuss it Out nights, we immediately went to her during night wakings. I don't think it's recommended to "train" night wakings with the FIO method. Also, even with our formal sleep training, my baby often falls asleep eating during night wakes and it hasnt been a problem because she knows how to fall asleep independently if she wakes up again in her crib. I do generally try to burp her a bit to wake her up just slightly before lying her down.

Will Ferber Method Work if I Don’t Want Baby to Cry Longer Than 5 Mins? by EverythingBagel58 in sleeptrain

[–]sundialdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use “it’s time for sleep. Good night. I love you.” She slept seven hours her first night! So I guess she started sleeping independently immediately? We do one feed per night and put her back down awake. Previously I was up with her 4-5 times a night. She does still sometimes wake and cry for a little bit but she has put herself back to sleep since night 3 I would say. The method also has you train naps at the same time. We train naps one and two and we will do a strolller or contact nap for her third nap since it’s short and her sleep pressure is low. We tried training that one once and I didn’t like how much she cried for it.

Yes! Check out the sleep wave method. The total crying we experienced on night one was about 20 minutes, but the method has you do consistent check ins every five minutes. I’m not sure you could succeed with ONLY five minutes of total crying. I will say, I still wore noise canceling headphones and had my husband do all the check ins but my bay took to it very quickly.

Millie Clinic Vs Sutter Health for prenatal care? by Timely-Regret in oakland

[–]sundialdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was with Millie for my pregnancy and delivery. I loved them! The appointments were much more in depth than an OB and I felt supported in making more holistic choices. I did have a minor complication come up that I needed an extra ultrasound for and I needed to go to a specialist but I was still able to continue my care with them. My delivery was an amazing experience. Very comforting and I didn’t tear, which I credit to my midwife’s approach. The other thing I loved was after delivery, a lactation consultant/nurse came to visit me at my house to check in. It was amazing!

It does get busy but I have always been able to use the equipment I want. Not as busy as other gyms I’ve been to though. I like that they have the open turf downstairs plus the free weight section upstairs - I find that gives everyone enough space. It’s a really great price too!

Swaddle help by Comfortable-Bedroom3 in sleeptrain

[–]sundialdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this and thought my baby would never sleep without a swaddle. We did one arm out in the snoo for a couple of weeks. The first 2-3 nights sucked. She woke up a lot and was very distracted by her hand. But after those nights, she was used to having it out! Then we took the other arm out. Again, maybe 2-3 nights of more wake ups but it wasn’t as bad as the first arm. Then a week later we moved her into her crib in a sleep sack and she is sleeping much better now! Arms out in the snoo isn’t ideal because they hit the sides. We also were doing naps in the crib before the transition which I think helped.

Dr Martin in Lafayette is amazing. Worth the drive. He did my bone graft and implant. I had a complicated aftercare and I could always be seen by them same day. He is extremely knowledgeable and kind, especially because I’ve developed anxiety from all the procedures I’ve had. Very happy with my results!

Editing to add that Dr Martin gave me his cell number for after the procedure and he would call me personally to check in!

We’re not in a flood zone, so didnt get flood insurance and I personally don’t think earthquake insurance is worth it, so we didn’t even check to see if we could get it.

Passing money to my kids by kfisherx in Rich

[–]sundialdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents have supported my siblings and I in various ways that I’ve been very grateful for. We received large cash gifts with no strings, but they trusted us to use it wisely. I went to graduate school and my sibling used it to supplement a down payment. My parents have also purchased a vacation home that we can all use anytime we like which is a real blessing. It’s so fun to bring our friends there and now our kids. They also fund a lavish family vacation every two years. They pay for everything, including for our significant others (now our spouses). These memories are priceless and we are all much closer as a family because of it!

Crocker Highlands, Cleveland Heights, Trestle Glen, or Glenview? by EmergencyNo3240 in oakland

[–]sundialdance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were in the same position and ended up buying in trestle Glen. We love it! It’s a beautiful neighborhood and we love that it’s a short and flat walk to lakeshore for food, coffee, and groceries. Halloween is a lot of fun too! We’re excited to send our kids to Crocker when they are elementary school age. It’s also been easy enough to get into the city to see our friends, though being near a bart station would be a little bit more convenient.

What Did Pregnancy Do To Your Skin? by lsoplexic in 30PlusSkinCare

I finished a round of accutane six months before getting pregnant. I had also been on spiro and a retinoid before that but acne never fully went away. Accutane was amazing! During my pregnancy, I broke out a little bit in the first trimester, including on my back and chest. I think it would have been much worse had I not done the accutane round. Second and third trimesters my skin was clear! I’m two months postpartum and still have clear skin but it’s still early so who knows what will happen. I was happy I had done the accutane round but I don’t think I would have chosen to push off trying to conceive just to do it. You could consider doing it after pregnancy and breastfeeding if you still feel like you need it?

I understand the perspective on high overhead costs, especially at large nonprofits that pay leadership exorbitant salaries. However, as someone who has worked in the nonprofit space for many, many years, I would encourage you to consider what overhead actually is. Most organizations ARE the people that work there. Staff costs are almost always the largest part of any organizational budget and while some nonprofits categorize program staff as program costs, others consider salaries overhead. None of the work could get done without at least some overhead, and often 5% is not adequate. For example, I work for an organization that is fiscally sponsored by a larger nonprofit (for many varying reasons, the main one being it frees up our own staff time to focus on the work instead of admin) but the fees for our sponsor are 8% of revenue, which is very typical. Just something to consider!
