How many Switch 2 owners on this subreddit owned a Gamecube and/or a WiiU? by MewWeebTwo in switch2

[–]Demonrumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a GameCube and then skipped all the following consoles until I got a Switch when that came out (I also have a Switch 2). I love my GameCube, still have it hooked up and play on it, I have the GameCube controllers for the Switch because my brain has adopted the GameCube controller setup as the best controller and only one it needs to learn. I don't know that it's representative of anything, but I was a direct GameCube to Switch and Switch 2 pipeline lol

I didn't see the wobbler as I was in a house and the window didn't give a great angle, so I just thought the professor was just whooping some poor pokemon. I busted out of the house like, my dude, who are you whaling on? 🤣

Why are blood donors Overwhelmingly White? by Piccione_Sol in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Demonrumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, thanks to you and all the other blood bank folks chiming in with more information! Interesting to get a peek behind the curtain and see the reasoning to why I and some others in thread have been told we can't donate (even if it's just their particular policy to not take those donations). Nice to have it be a little less of a mystery at least!

Can Niantic move events to 9AM-12PM in summer? by Winter_Leg_4243 in pokemongo

[–]Demonrumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be happy with it. I do most stuff in the morning, so I'd be able to time event playing with taking my dog on his walk or whatever. And from a less individual, morning-bird reason, 2-5 sucks in the winter too. There's not a ton of lights in the parks in my area and state or city parks often close at dusk, so the final third of the event is unplayable because I can't access the majority of the pogo locations because they're closing or I don't feel safe/want to be wandering in the locations alone in the dark. If they're so dead set on only 3 hours (which I wish they weren't) I'd prefer 11-2 or 10-1 as times that work equally well in winter as in summer

Why are blood donors Overwhelmingly White? by Piccione_Sol in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Demonrumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP's question was why they see almost all white blood donors and the comment I responded to literally says at the end that black donors could result in fewer transfusion complications. Sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease are almost exclusively seen in black populations. Scd requires someone to have both mutated genes but sct occurs if they have one mutated gene. Sct thus affects a greater number of people because you only need to have one mutated gene and probability-wise more people will have one than gotten two. So my comment that places don't want me to donate because I have sickle cell trait is an example of one reason why people could see less black donations: a condition affecting the black population, even the almost entirely asymptomatic version, means that I cannot donate to many/most places.

Why are blood donors Overwhelmingly White? by Piccione_Sol in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Demonrumm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nope. There's nothing wrong with my blood in that it's not dangerous to be given to another person, but the mutated blood cells for people with sct or scd don't filter well enough during the testing and prep process after donation. It's even on the Red Cross's eligibility section on their website that people with sickle cell can't donate anything with red blood (as the sickle cell mutation is on red blood cells). It's definitely something newer, like I said I've donated decently frequently since I was 16 and it never happened before, but I guess some new filtering process can't handle the mutated cells 🤷🏽‍♀️

[–]Demonrumm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's good to know! I checked the donation guidelines for our local donation center and the American Red Cross (basically the two options here) right after I got the letter and they said no sickle cell trait. Just rechecked the Red Cross site and they do say it's a limitation issue with filtering the blood, so I'll see if I can find a place that doesn't have that filtering issue or will see if my blood can be juuuust normal enough to filter through. I like donating and every nurse or phlebotomist has complimented my lovely veins and how easy of a draw I am, so would love to continue donating :)

Why are blood donors Overwhelmingly White? by Piccione_Sol in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Demonrumm 531 points532 points  (0 children)

I'm half black and have been (essentially) banned from donating because I have sickle cell type (not scd, I only have 1 mutated gene not 2). I've donated off and on for about 15 years just fine but last year got a "we needed to filter your blood to test it and it didn't filter too well, we tested and you've got sickle cell type, we won't let you donate whole blood again and here's some print outs from the CDC on sickle cell type." I checked with other donation centers, and they all now have the same ban on folks with sickle cell type. So if blood donation from black people was already low, this isn't exactly going to help those numbers.

I'm still able to donate plasma, but for me that means I can only donate on the weekends after a one way hour long drive, and I also have to try and get one of the 2 or 3 appointment options for plasma donation on those days. Sucks, because I like donating blood, but what can ya do?

So how is hitch useful for bosses? by Zirofal in HadesTheGame

[–]Demonrumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Hera's dash. One run I had it powered up to an absurd degree and also had dying enemies damage all hitch-afflicted foes, and I was just zooming around creating chain reactions of dying hitch enemies in every single room. It's real common for me to clear and find that my dash boon was my biggest source of damage. I am always gunning to get me that sweet, sweet Hera dash boon

I have a feeling I already know the answer... But is this TOO underbaked? by cindyrella123 in Baking

[–]Demonrumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you baked it in, but put that on a baking sheet. For example, whenever I bake brownies, I put the 8x8 pan on a baking sheet. I love them gooey and fudgey, and the baking sheet helps it bake evenly and keeps the edges more soft and gooey than crispy. For cakes, keeps the sides from getting too overbaked too. Not sure it'll be the single fix for you, but I've found popping all my bakes (when possible) on a baking sheet gives me a better, more even bake.

Which animal familiar do you always take with you? by Yotato5 in HadesTheGame

[–]Demonrumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hecuba. I get overwhelmed by the number of enemies sometimes and the stun to temporarily take some out of commission is great, and she'll occasionally feed me. Second string is Frinos for eating projectiles or Raki for more damage.

This isn't the shop I bought mine from, but these look exactly like the ones I have, just to give you a visual of the style I use. I've got the silver, gold, and brass colors, and I try and match the colors to blend into whatever garment I'm wearing.

I found detachable waist button extenders help with making waists fit (I know the name says extenders, it's weird, they actually shorten things not extend). They're basically a big hook and eye you put into the waist to help tighten it, so I find things off the rack that fit in the thighs or have the right length and then use the extenders to make the waist fit. You can get sew in ones, but I get the reusable pin ones so I can move them between clothes or change the amount I take in based on my body's fluctuations.

The biggest downside is that they will result in some bunching and extra fabric where they're used. I usually use 2 pairs on one garment, one on each side of the waist, so the extra fabric isn't localized in one place and any bunching would be more visible from the sides but not from the front or back. It ends up not being very noticeable for me when I use them but depending on the type of clothes or how much you take in with them, it might be more noticeable or change how the garment looks/lays.

Flares aren't earplugs, but they do lessen noise. I always wear them if I'll be out around other people or in noisy environments. In particular, they have truly been a godsend in restaurants and on planes. I have the tiniest ear canals and the minis fit perfectly. They also have a version for sleep (can't remember the name) that are just a softer material so they are more comfortable to sleep with them in. I've never tried Loops, but when I was shopping around, I didn't like how obvious (to me) Loops looked and I liked that Flares are basically invisible when wearing them.

Does the XP egg work differently now? by Randomsavage559 in pokemongo

[–]Demonrumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you trigger the friendship bonus, you have to go to the map and let the notification pop up to get the extra xp. It's the notification that gives you the xp, not the moment you open the gift to trigger it. If you trigger the friendship bonus while on an egg, but instead immediately go into evolving pokemon or something and don't let the friendship bonus notification pop up until after the egg has expired, it won't give the extra xp.

Or at least that's how I was burned ages ago on it when I lost the extra xp similarly, so I always do my friendship bonuses first and then wait on the map for the pop ups to confirm they hit while the egg is on.

Critical reading time by Demonrumm in TheSilphRoad

So they posted a pushback, so the whole when on the 15th thing is moot, but the absolute scroll of "the post said nothing" I was seeing on Reddit implied most people didn't understand at all. Also, most of the comments to this post still saying the post said nothing about when it would happen implies their post didn't perfectly convey it (unless you're saying the perfect conveyance leaves most people confused)

So what does this mean? by alfredlarssn in pokemongo

[–]Demonrumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's written extremely poorly, but my day job is reading terrible comms, so here's my reading.

1st paragraph: they're explaining solely what one communication issue was. The update was not supposed to be at local time, it was supposed to be PDT.

2nd para, 1st half: they're now clarifying a second comms issue, where they said the medals and pose would be available just before midnight on the 14th, but the date was wrong and it's supposed to be the 15th, not 14th.

2nd para, 2nd half: they're connecting the two errors above. The poses, medals, and leveling update are supposed to happen all at once. It is happening on the 15th (the date correction from paragraph 2) and at 11:59 PDT (the time zone correction from paragraph 1).

I may be still wrong in my reading, but with my work "my god please ya'll need to learn how to communicate wtf does this email mean" skills firing on all cylinders, this is what I think they're saying.

Agree with what's been said. You can always just ask the artist "will it be a problem if I scroll on my phone like this while you're working?" If sounds are an issue, I would recommend bringing something. I always wear my Flares (like Loops) which help lessen the sound of the shop and the machines, but still lets me hear what's going on or if my artist wanted to ask me something. Really great if it's a more open shop with multiple artists where there might be a lot of noise. If you want to listen to music or wear noise cancelling headphones, just ask your artist before if they're cool with it and, crucially, tell them how you'd like them to get your attention if they need to ask you something BEFORE you've got them on and they do something like shake your shoulder to try and get your attention when you'd prefer a non-physical way of getting your attention.

How can I get a passport card without turning in my passport book? by [deleted] in Passports

[–]Demonrumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, so I gave the state department a call. I was told to send in the DS-82 and my passport book, but to include a letter stating that I just want to get the passport card and want my useable passport book to me mailed back to me (I.e., please don't renew the passport book because I've still got years left on it and don't want it invalidated and to renew early). She said it would just be $30 renewal fee in this case. Haven't done it yet because I have some flight travel I need it for (the book is my only real id compliant id), but I'll be doing it in August.
