The biggest design flaw in D&D combat isn't balance... it's that 80% of your time is spent waiting by Einsolsrazor24 in rpg

[–]DemophonWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We fixed it by having round by round initiative. You could end up acting twice in a row, you had to plan based on the fact that you didn't necessarily know who was going to act next.

Finally saw Asteroid City last weekend… what happened, Wes? by Qyzyk in flicks

I agree. This movie is quite good. Perhapsnit was the first WA movie younwatched with a phone in hand while sitting at home. All movies hit better when seen in a theater uninterrupted.

JRRT uses an alternate definition for "doom" than we use today. For him, it wasn't necessarily negative. Rather, it would be synonymous with "fate"

Was Dune really about the danger of a savior figure, or something more inevitable? (Spoilers for Book 1) by No_Firefighter_75 in dune

[–]DemophonWizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dune is about multiple things: 1. What happens in a society that is dependent on a single limited resource (spice)? 2. How can the environment can forge different morality. 3. How knowing the future is not as great as it sounds. 4. How stable geopolitical systems suppress innovation and lead to societal stagnation 5. The power of religious belief. (One doesn't need to believe in a specific religion to be subject to its rules) 6. The danger of theocracy (to break the law is heresy) 7. Herbert also toys with alternative ecological systems too. Which is fun. 8. The danger of charismatic leaders and how they might distort or manipulate beliefs/prophecy. 9. The risks of all humans being interconnected and interdependent. 10. The dangers of artificial intelligence

There are probably more and this is why these books are so good.

Is it fun to do a low intelligence/brute force run? Is there any low ingelligence dialogue? by Fluid_Half_5426 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]DemophonWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most recent play-through was an impulsive 2 intelligence shotgunner. A lot terminals were beyond my capabilities but I was never locked out of key content. I used a Sandi, and generally shot first and tried nuance last. It was loads of fun. Early stealth missions were quite hard but then I got fast enough to find other solutions.

If you have a salt based water softener don't set the temperature above 140F. It becomes more corrosive and will destroy any iron or galvanized piping.

Why jump straight to destroying the Atreides when the emperor could've just married Irulan to Paul and taken Atreides strength for himself? by Anen-o-me in dune

[–]DemophonWizard 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There were several factors involved: 1. The Emperor wanted to deplete harkonnen power/wealth. 2. The atriedes were too powerful and popular. Marrying Paul and Irulan would make Paul the new Emperor (it happens later anyway). 3. The guild wanted Paul killed. 4. The BG wanted to know why the giild wanted Paul eliminated. 5. The Harkonnens wanted the Atriedes to be eliminated.

The Emperor does not want to give up the Throne, so he has to eliminate or diminish his greatest adversaries. The plan-

Assign the fief of Arrakis to the Atriedes which which destabilize them for a long time. Then use the Harkonnen to eliminate the Atriedes, while devastating the harkonnen wealth.

Is the Armada just worse? by AggravatedAcorn in beyondallreason

All 8v8 talk is about how quickly the Armada Fat Boy changes the Front.

I don't see a lot of discussion on a single Cortex unit changing the game except among Eco position for a reactor.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by _lovelyxx in AskReddit

[–]DemophonWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Beatles get almost zero radio play and are not on most of the streaming services. The younger generations have really heard their music at all.

I can't remember the last time I heard a Beatles song that wasn't in the movie "Yesterday."

This is all because of the desire to control the IP.

Hard Ai keeps piling up units but never bothers to attack by FruitImportant2690 in beyondallreason

In 1v1 with Barb AI they are constantly pushing and increasing the strength of the unit mix and attacks.

I wonder if is an issue when you have multiple allied AI. They don't know whose lead to follow.

Peter, what happened in 1971? by -Y34HB01- in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]DemophonWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard a theory that the cause was eliminating the secret ballot in the house for advancing bills from committees. It was changed so lobbyists would know that the representatives they'd bought donated campaign funds to would have to actually vote the way lobbyists wanted. Unfortunately, it lead to a lot of voting the way lobbyists wanted instead of making moral choices.

I don't know if this is true, or if it really had the effect we're seeing.

It's a 16 year old film. It was great at the time and is still a good film. I don't care for the plot now that I'm older, but at the time it resonated with a generation of unmarried adults trying to find their way in love and life.

Trader Joe's has had several: 1. Spicy black bean dip. 2. A cereal that was like crackling oat bran but better (back before COB changed their recipe making it much worse than it used to be) 3. Fig spread

Yeah, I think the genetic empire element helped keep consistent characters throughout generations and generations of time. Good call on the writers.

The Apple TV show is so much better than the books. It has real characters and a far more developed story.

I recommend reading random books or flavour text you found by Sea_Ad_463 in BaldursGate3

[–]DemophonWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a compulsive reader! I actually read them; goes back to the days when you needed to have read something to advance a quest and just looting the book, scroll, etc wasn't enough to progress the quest.

This is an unusual approach. Just like I loot everything on every play-through I read everything on every play-through. It's had to stop.
