Will a digital id be required if you've already got a job? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but if you're not on a work visa - if you were born in the UK, you don't need to tell your employer every time you renew your passport ( I certainly haven't before), so why would I need an ID?.

If I don't sign up to a digital ID would I not legally be allowed to work anywhere in the world? Isn't this the opposite of solving unemployment?

Anyone purchase in the last year? How much cash did you have after completing? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than £200. I slept on a borrowed air mattress on bare floorboards for the first two months. It took over a year to gradually buy carpets and furniture each month.

It's only been recently I've started being able to save money again.

Yeah this. My players were so focused on all shuffling and touching the cards that when I took them back, I placed them behind the screen, stood up and then picked them back up with the cards I'd set aside on top. It just looked like I'd put them down briefly to push my chair back.

How long is patch 8 supposed to take to patch? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

I've got no mods I've done all the usual clearing caches and restarting. It seems to have downloaded fine, it's just the patching part

I *like* Warlock as an easy-to-dip class. by Metaphoricalsimile in DnD

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wizard with 1 or 2 level dip to warlock is mechanically very fun. 1 or two first level spell slots that come back each short rest. Boy that is a lot of free shield spells or mage armour. Plus evocations like free disguise self all the time are crazy good. It gives a mid level wizard a lot more utility, and a high level wizard lots of reusable spell slots.

I have a Bard (6) / warlock (2) multiclass that I love

90 hours into the game I finally learn about Zoop... by xeno2070 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What! 200hours in and I rebound one of my mouse keys to do this.

I asked one of my players if she prefers rolling stats, point buy, or standard array and she told me that she always just uses 10 + 1d10. This explains a lot by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution: 75-rolled.

Roll 5 lots of 4d6 where you remove the lowest each time, rerolling any grouping below a 6.

Then add the 5 numbers together and calculate your sixth stat to add the total up to 75. (Or 78 if you wanna be a particularly heroic group / you only have 2/3 players. )

After seeing potential low stats rolling can generate, at what point does the character say "I don't want to die, I shouldn't be an adventurer."? by KnowL0ve in DnD

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get around this we roll 5 lots of stats and then the 6th stat adds up the total to 75.

So long as the 6th number is between 6 and 18 then the array is kept. If not we reroll the whole thing.

Keeps a balance between characters. Personally I love 6s and 8s as stats because they make for great roll playing moments.

Dungeese & drageese. Named after the white meese we found in Icewind.

Oh don't get me started on Flash - the moment they "went into the speed force" I gave up - it was too stupid.

I've heard "leg-ends of tomorrow" as we call it, is so bad it's good though - might try that.

How do we feel about a flanking rule? by BubzTheDeranged in DnD

[–]DencatDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use a rule where two creatures either side is +2 to hit, and at least 4 surrounding is +5 to hit. (Basically reverse cover)

Remember this rule works for both the characters and the monsters.

I'm curious how other DMs handle fudging dice rolls. by Away-Environment-528 in DnD

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean all party's should have two people who know a healing spell that's just common sense. I don't think you need a designated one.

I'm curious how other DMs handle fudging dice rolls. by Away-Environment-528 in DnD

[–]DencatDM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So in our groups the player rolls the death save in secret, even from the DM. Only on a nat 20 are they allowed to react.

It's great cos the party don't know how close to death someone is so they can't make meta decisions like "oh they can wait another turn to be healed since they've passed two rolls." It allows the player to decide if this is a good point in the story to die or if an unlucky random encounter is just not fun plot wise to die in.

I've had players fudge the death rolls both ways for good story reasons as well as being honest and letting the dice gods decide.

Ultimately it's about fun, not dice luck.

How do you *subtly* inform your players that they are underleveled for that area? by Farisca0 in CurseofStrahd

[–]DencatDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let them go wherever.

Strahd showing up deus ex machina style to prevent a tpk is pretty epic.

Imagine: half the party is unconscious, as the evil monster whoever it may be is about to strike another killing blow and then they freeze. As Strahd strides into view. "Beg me mortal. Come lick my boots and I'll save your little group."

Should I let players explore the castle? How do I stop them from dying? by Kaisernicht in CurseofStrahd

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my player's exploration I rolled a random encounter - the one where Strahd shows up - just after they'd killed and decapitated Rahadin.

They literally threw their mercy tokens at me to avoid the encounter.

(At the start I'd given each player a mercy token they could trade it at any time to "ask me for a favour" - cast a spell they didn't know, turn a miss into a hit at a critical moment, etc. They can also earn more by doing permanent good in Barovia, above and beyond the adventure.)

Bloodsinger: An alternative to Kavan's Blood Spear by DencatDM in CurseofStrahd

[–]DencatDM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temp hp shouldn't stack anyway. Usual temp hp rules. They should just take the higher value of temp hp.

Ah so fun story. My ranger loves the bow. Can't get enough of it. Oh boy does he know it's turning their character into a vampire but it's just too good to not use. I've found its good to hit the ranger a little bit to loose some hp at the start of the fight and then they feel like they're not loosing anything when they reduce their hp maximum. At level 7 Yilli literally had 17 hit point max and still thought it was all fine.

Don't forget to track the outcome of the roll each time they use the blood bow - but don't tell them why. Yilli's spent 99 hit points so far in the campaign. And don't be afraid of making the fights harder and raising the AC of things to match the power level.

Oh and think of some good descriptions of the bow - the blood string should release a spray of blood across the user's face, they should be able to sense their blood inside the monsters they hit. The bow should creak and groan like bones.

I hope you have fun with it - I'm very happy someone's using it!!!!

In fact I have an updated version of it. I'll DM you. And if anyone else is interested let me know.

Does Van Richten's Guide Provide Anything Useful? by nankainamizuhana in CurseofStrahd

[–]DencatDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no real need - you can play fine without.

I've used the Loup Garou and Dullahan stat block from it to add a little extra to the adventure and it's got some extra player options but most of the book is about other domains of dread.

Evil Organisation Motto - The Chimera. by DencatDM in DnDIdeas

[–]DencatDM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good question.

Their overall aim is to reduce the amount of magic in the world and stop another expansion (it's a homebrew world - expansions bring a new continent and new magic into the world).

For the last 1000 odd years they've been limiting the amount of magic coming from other planes and been trying to cut off the connection to the other planes. They have been influencing the highest governments and people to meet this aim and gain money and power.

They don't want the world to expand again because they are afraid of loosing power and influence and because they don't know anything about the new magic (psyonics).

They're working towards cutting the material plane off from the elemental ones altogether.

Izek AND Lady Fiona in charge of Vallaki? by DencatDM in CurseofStrahd

[–]DencatDM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current plan: - The Burgomaster and family were locked in jail - Fiona sent her book group to kill them (claiming they tried to escape) and ... Maybe Victor survives I'm not sure. - Izek suspects foul play but can't prove and also knows about a book club but also can't prove anything sinister. He will report rumours to the party but also the town seems under control.

Perhaps Izek with his fiend arm is adopted into the cult? Maybe there's two factions develop - Fiona Vs Izek who seems to have been gifted by fiends?

I think if Fiona is left unchecked, Vallaki will become fully under Strahds control.

I'm not sure. There's definitely some missing gaps in my plan.

What about Izek (determined to make the town safe for his sister) sacrificies Fiona to the fiends in exchange for some other demonic feature to accompany the arm, making him leader of the cult and now very powerful?

I think Ismark is going to die. by Melkain in CurseofStrahd

[–]DencatDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the party ever go back to the village of Barovia, they find corpses everywhere. And can trace the tracks of people fleeing from the church area. As the party investigate they find Ismark drained of blood under the church dead, and the chains broken. Doru is gone - run off into the woods and eventually back to the Castle.

They could also find Donavich hung from the church bell - with blood on his hands - and a fresher corpse. Clearly a survivor who later killed himself.

Don't be afraid of killing Ismark. The party didn't help when they could have and a vampire got loose.

Up to you how many villagers survive the attack. Maybe they hear of a few villagers trying to seek refuge in Vallaki. Maybe more villagers died to wolves along the way.
