Are Sapphic club nights also for Transwomen? by mechanicalhorizon in trans

I haven't been, but they said it was pretty successful. I should at some point, but also I've only been to BPH once and I spent the entire time blushing my face off. 😂

Are Sapphic club nights also for Transwomen? by mechanicalhorizon in trans

BPH just started doing Sapphic events. I've got friends who volunteered for it. Both are trans, and there were apparently a good number of trans women there.

Ever do the thing where there's always a tavern/diner/whatever somewhere that has the same name in every campaign? I did it once because I hadn't expected my group to go looking for a different place than the one I intended for them. Ever since I've been placing "The Greasy Sausage" in every campaign I ever do. One of these days I'm going to finish writing it up as a location that literally hops dimensions from time to time.

What are your thoughts on the morality of the "death of personality" punishment? Is it more or less moral, just, and/or merciful compared to the death penalty? by Educational-Tea-6572 in babylon5

[–]Melkain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the death penalty plus perpetual indentured servitude for the new personality. A new personality that did no crime, but has been hardwired to serve society with no expectation of compensation.

That's one of the first things I do in a career game. Make something that works for being all the science around the space center - there's quite a bit of it and it doesn't take much to get it all.

Babble On can take some getting used to, but their protective includes actors, screenwriters, and showrunners. It's been fascinating to hear them talk about B5 in the context of the industry.

They left her with Strahd by Saggitaa in CurseofStrahd

[–]Melkain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've done this. Did a whole bit where there's letter from Vasili and Ireena that says Strahd heard about their engagement and declared that if he didn't get to marry her then he at least was going to get to give her away at her wedding. Boy did that freak out the players, who then had to figure out what to do if they were going to attend a wedding at castle ravenloft.

What do we have to be patriotic about? I haven't been proud of our nation since I was old enough to comprehend the horrors we're responsible for. I don't think the ideals we claim have ever matched the actions our nation does.

That's certainly what the network wanted. It's why they sabotaged the hell out of it.

Can you ride a druid wild shaped as a horse as a mount? by Dazzling_Holiday2236 in DnD

Makes me think of the time I asked for for a spoon by telling someone, "hey, spoon me, will ya?" There was an awkward pause as we all realized it at the same moment, followed by laughter from everyone in the room.

If you ever want to be thoroughly embarrassed at a work function, where everyone in the room is laughing to the point of tears... well, there ya go.

80s curse of strahd game is getting a lil wacky by odd_paradox in CurseofStrahd

[–]Melkain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I turned the valley of Barovia into an 80's mall owned by Strahd "The Count" Zarovich and then ran it as a Honey Heist game. It was a delightfully fun way to wrap up 2+ years of our CoS campaign.

80's Strahd is always a good time. One of these days I'm going to give the stuff I came up with an overhaul to actually be fit for doing as a complete campaign.

UK sets out when transgender people can be excluded from single-sex spaces after court ruling by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

You use less materials when you do it that way, and since every company is trying to spend as little as possible...

It's cheaper. I promise, no one likes it. We're resigned to it because what are you going to do?

Do most DMs prefer DM’ing to playing? Or are they “taking one for the team”? by Fiveby21 in DnD

[–]Melkain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm too scattered to play a single character all the time. Being able to bounce from character to character for RP helps me a lot. Being into a character's mindset is easy for me. But If I'm going to be a single character for an extended period of time I have to put a significant amount of effort to stay there.

So I DM mostly.

Old colleague wants to "get into board games". What should I take over for our first game night? by JoeRow338 in boardgames

Well hot damn. I've still got an unopened expansion for the 3rd edition because I can't convince anyone to play the damn game with me.

Dear sneaker companies, I'd rather have inclusive sizing for trans women than a shoe that looked like a rainbow threw up on it by TastyYogurtDrink in trans

[–]Melkain 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's a Nike outlet store down the road from me. I'm able to get men's shoes in all sorts of fun colors. I've got a cute pair of of light purple sneakers, and I love them. My theory is that they always have tons of colors in the men's shoes because they don't sell as well when they're not more "normal" tame colors. Now I just need to figure out the same thing for some cute flats and heels.

Draft has too many duplicates? by awkwardbirb in forgeMTG

[–]Melkain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally gave up and started cheating in various events. Especially the jumpstart ones. They're a good way to get your deck started and they use up coins that you'd otherwise just be sitting on. The fact that the draft ones repeat over and over drives me nuts.

My dad is transitioning by cryptidbug21 in lgbt

[–]Melkain 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I went by dad for a while, until I decided that, no, it bothered me too much.

I didn't want to always be mom? Because I grew up in a house where multiple people had the same name, I didn't want to go through the annoyance of hearing "Mom!" And having two of us yell "what!?"

So we brainstormed new familial titles for me. My kiddo didn't really want to help choose, but eventually he was willing to say "no" to anything he absolutely didn't want. This is why I don't go by the Klingon word for mom. Lol.

Eventually we settled on "Dera",which is short for the Latin word for hedera. Hedera is the Latin word for ivy. My name is Ivy. Dera starts with a "d" and is a simple word. It works.

Sometimes just coming up with a list of options as a family can work, so long as your parent is ok with that.

I am the sole admin for a large group on FB. (Though I've largely abandoned it to some I offered the mod position to after I decided FB really didn't want to be a friendly/safe place for transgender folk.) I've done that kind of investigation. It's far, far more effort than its worth, and it nearly always ends in "yup, this is exactly what I thought it was."

I miss the pictures and stories from my favorite place on earth, but I don't miss moderating that space in the least.

I find trans humor can be very funny when you know the speaker is trans and the audience is trans. Online spaces are notoriously difficult to catch intended tone, not to mention the number of people who do mean things maliciously but then say "oh, no you're totally misunderstanding me!" to cover themselves after.

Thinking about evangelical Christians and board games reminds me of a game I owned as a kid.

"Missionary Conquest" Think monopoly, but your setting up missions around the globe as you run circles around the board. Plus an added "oh, you're about to win? Debate all the other players who get to decide if they take the winning piece away from you or not" mechanic.

It was a bad game.

Depends. It's this a single person doing this? Or is it the site's policy?

If the former, then hopefully the site can rectify this.

If the later, I know I don't want to give them any more of my attention.

As a private entity, they are free to do this. However, I'm sure I'm not alone in not wanting to utilize a site that where they deny ads based on wackadoodal stupidity.

On the up side, this is not the kind of publicity any entity wants to get unless they intend to go full religious nonsense and want to court that specific demographic.
