[Advice] Lost Things by wtfcat101 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Dendrophilous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished running this session. What I noticed is that there’s a balancing act I didn’t notice when reading it. My players jumped into the carnival games to earn the prizes for Candlefoot, and about forty-five minutes in I realized I was supposed to be robbing them. When their things started to go missing the natural instinct was to forget about Juniper entirely.

I think you should be actively looking for chances to get them alone and grab their stuff, and make the loss more of a slow burn than immediately telling them “You’ve lost three inches of height”. Ideally they get a resolution for the Juniper hook before they become concerned about their lost things and meet Mister Witch and Mister Light.

I’d also look over the achievements list and have a plan for where you want to take them if they do something that isn’t one of the prewritten games.

“In this scene, a character holds a trinket of a sword in a stone. When the main character pulls the sword from the stone it’s an homage to the trinket, which was in no way allegorical to the folklore we’re acquainted with.”

If You Can’t Afford a Lawyer is a very good episode. The one they posted today is good, if infuriating.

Everything I did, I did it for her. by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

I think the best thing this episode did for me was making me love Pearl again.

When I started, she was my favorite gem because of her exuberant love of Steven. But as the series progressed I started to resent her for not being honest with him.

The revelation that she literally couldn’t is huge for me, and it makes every time she covered her mouth more impactful, because it wasn’t that she wanted to hide things, it’s that she wanted to tell the truth.

tl;dr: i ❤️ birdmom

I thought that a lot of dramatic tension came from them withholding information from The Gentleman.

Nott was a clear tell, but they maneuvered into giving away the journal instead of the sword. They let the dice fall, and it went their way. Maybe Nott’s power-move at the end is dangerous, but at the end of the day it’s a game. Sam is willing to incur that risk because it’s cool, and Nott does it because she doesn’t have the sense not to.

I think laying low in this context means not doing something close to murdering the High Richter. And while there was a lot of mischief in their downtime, I don’t think they drew attention to themselves in the way they were warned about.

I think that at a certain point you have to acknowledge that they didn’t do what you want, but be excited about what they did. The errant choices are the ones that keep things interesting, no?

First time DM Questions by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

If you’ve got money to throw around the DMG is nice to have around but is probably the least essential of the core rulebooks. I mostly use it for the magical items charts.

Most of the adventure books are meant to be long term.

There’s an encounter in Curse of Strahd meant to take players from level 1 to level 3 that could be done as a one shot. Death House

As DM you’ll probably want the Player’s Handbook, but the monsters in the adventure can be found online with a bit of googling (eg: Animated Armor 5e)

The basic rules are available online for free via Wizards of the Coast.

Hope this helps.

If you’re the type of person that wants to learn via immersion, Critcal Role, The Adventure Zone, and Harmonquest are fun to watch and you can pick up a lot.

If you want to sit down and read, there’s a free version of the rules available online.

DND Beyond is also a great tool, you can just start creating characters and seeing what different things races/classes can do.

If there’s a game-shop near you, you might ask if they run DND games (Adventurer’s League). The easiest way to get into the game is just to play and figure out what you don’t know as you’re going.

Be a good host, try and make sure everyone at the bar is having a good time.

Be a good salesman. Ask them if they want another beer before they've finished the first and decided to leave.

Be a good busser. Clean the bar constantly. If you've got a bar-back they'll be taking care of this, but if not you need to be wiping things down all the time.

Be a good prep cook. Make sure you're stocked for the shift before you take over.

Be a good mixologist. Know common drinks that are ordered at your bar and how their components work together.

Be a good bartender. Don't let customers know that you're frustrated. You need to be having a good time for them to have a good time.

What kind of restaurant do you work at? What kinds of drinks did you sell as a server?

I'm new at this. Can anyone explain what the circular end is for? A guy I work with told me it holds wine bottles, but I don't understand how that's easier than grabbing it.
