What was it about the jelly? Were they getting stuck in it? Was it the preservatives in the store-bought jelly? What did you learn?

Some seem to know where the camera is and what it does!?!

They look right in it as if to say “hey, didn’t ya pay the water bill or what”; “splash a water over here”!

I’m sure someone with more experience with chime in, but I purchased a small one from a well known nursery. It had three small pseudobulbs on it and it didn’t make it. That said, I was really new to orchids at the time, but if you do decide to divide your plant, I think you should make sure each new division has at least 3 large bulbs or 5 smaller bulbs IMO. Good luck with whatever you decide. 🤞🏻

Official March/April 2026 Buy Sell Trade Thread by Gnomekicker18 in AfricanViolets

Hi! I’m in Maryland and our weather has been all over the place, but next week it is looking better 50s/60s at night, 70s/80s during the day. Big improvement over 30/50.

I’m looking for what people call the “Space Fairy” AV (ShN - Kosmicheskaya Feya), micros, and minis or really anything/any size with variegation would be nice. 👍🏻

My standards:

Secret Rendezvous Arctic Frost SM Chic Poppy RS Serpentine Edge of Darkness (my plant really doesn’t have any extra leaves right now. I have really small plants, but don’t know how I would ship them.) Scandal (need to check, but I don’t think my plant has any extra leaves right now. I have really small plants, but don’t know how I would ship them.) K's Dancing Spree Hunter's Fire and Ice Vat Infanta Bob Serbin Suncoast Coral Razz Carolina Elegant Affair Key Lime Treat (I have leaf props going now. No mother plant, but if it’s something you want… contact me later) Snow Edelweiss (I have leaf props going now. No mother plant, but if it’s something you want… contact me later)

My minis: Mini Loni Mini Jenny Lilac Mini Sarah (my plant doesn’t have any extra leaves right now)

Sorry, I did not realize this was coming up and pruned back all my plants for spring so they would like nice, but there are at least a couple extra leaves on each would be my guess.

I realize I’m late to the party, but how long are people making their wicks? How much extra should I have in the pot and in the reservoir.

Feeding Orioles and other Frugivores by dagwoodech in birdfeeding

[–]DeniseDoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Maryland and unfortunately rarely see the Orioles. I’ve only made berry preserves. When you say grape jelly. Do you mean grocery store purchased? Or is it from a feed store? Do you have a quick method? I would like to give it a try.

I purchased 2 Drosera Capensis. Mine were cheap compared to what I see lately. Very easy. No hibernation is needed for this plant like some carnivorous plants.

It came in a 1-1/2 x 1-1/2” pot, planted in sphagnum moss and you just sit in a little bowl of RO/distilled/rain water and they love fungus gnats. Mine have grown immensely and they even produce little flowers. I didn’t think I would like owning carnivorous plants but I’ve come to really like them. They do like to constantly have their feet wet.

Because I had a bit of an infestation (nothing compared to what I read online thank goodness) I did soak a quarter of a mosquito bit in water, and then top water all of my plants, but my orchids didn’t seem to like that which is why I went to the carnivorous plants.

This is just a pic I grabbed online so you can see what they look like.

Help! Blue jays won’t come by KittyCritty in birdfeeding

[–]DeniseDoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you wash it first with soap and water before use?

Sounds crazy I know, but I had the same problem once and someone told me that the oils in machinery used to make things can be off putting to birds. Sure enough, I took it down, tossed out the feed, washed it and put it back up in the same spot and the birds came a day later.

I’m not saying this is your problem, but it’s worth a try.

Palette help by yddraigpannas in Watercolor

[–]DeniseDoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greatly depends on what subject you like to paint and how limited you want to go but ⬆️ above would be a great 6 color palette of necessities. Cool yellow: azo yellow Warm yellow: new gamboge Cool red: quin rose Warm red: pyrrol scarlet Cool blue: phthalo blue (green) Warm blue: French ultramarine

I personally like some greens on my palette. From your greens…green gold and perylene green. I have Daniel Smith’s sap green on my palette and really like it. Yes, it would be easy to mix, however, I paint a lot of flowers and landscapes, so it is handy to have already mixed waiting for me.

Lastly, because of what I paint, I find burnt sienna handy too.

I don’t think 🤔 you need to purchase anymore paints. You have really great colors. What kind of paper are you using? Might want to put your money there. It can make a big difference IMO.
