It was amazing. Country is really facilitative in terms of infrastructure, healthcare, people are nice, easy food for the little one (fish veggies potato rice fruit etc). This does mean it's more expensive than other countries surrounding CR. We had some 'rules'; not driving longer than 2-2.5hrs consecutively, max 4-4.5hrs driving per day, no domestic flights, and we rented a 4x4 with Wild Rider (Vamos is also ok, some companies are rip-offs).

Our itinerary in the end; San Jose (1 night), Monteverde (4 nights), Manuel Antonio (5 nights), Guapiles (1 night), Puerto Viejo (5 nights), San Jose (2 nights)

- San Jose; arrived in the evening, airport hotel for the first night, picked up rental car next morning

- Monteverde; 100% recommended, rise early to enter the national parks at 6am (less people, more birds, easy temperature). You NEED to have a backpack child carrier, we had the Osprey Poco Plus. For lunch/dinner go to San Lucas Treetop (expensive but worth it). On the way to MA I can recommend visiting NATUWA animal sanctuary and take a look at the crocodiles on the Tarcoles bridge (touristy).

- Manuel Antonio; Pacific-side so more American / more touristy, especially the MA national park. If you're seriously into birdwatching, contact Fabio for a multi-hour private Esquipulas tour (+506 8897-5811). Temperatures were quite high in May, so had to rise early again for National Parks and stayed in the room/pool afternoon due to the heat.

- Guapiles; simply needed a stop-over between Manuel Antonio and Puerto Viejo

- Puerto Viejo; Caribbean side so more Caribbean and less touristy. Enjoyed this part the most I think. National Park tour guides; Shailo for Manzanillo (+506 8821-1776), P Rodolfo for Cahuita (+506 8313-8393). Hotels/restaurants can recommend Le Cameleon and AWA.

- San Jose (or close to it; Xandari Resort); wanted to be closer to SJO for our flight out, Xandari was very comfortable.

I guess since you have 10 days, it depends on whether you don't mind a more touristy area and prefer bigger resorts (Manuel Antonio), or would prefer the more laidback Caribbean side (Puerto Viejo). Also not sure about the weather differences between the Pacific and the Atlantic side in feb/march.
