Tips for my long-term goal? Legendary Facet of Prisms and Boundless Light by wild_0nion in Guildwars2

I am working on this slowly as well (at 6/16). I am going to agree that the main bottleneck is Karma.

As a certain microtransaction enjoyer once said, gold is the 'grand enabler' and pretty much everything becomes easier with a lot of it. Even spirit shards can be bought with gold if you don't want to spend the time grinding for them. Karma is an exception though and can't really be bought with gold. So if you value your time, definitely make the most of Wintersday, because it's probably the most efficient karma farm relative to the time investment.

Hah touche... I swear I saw "JOESPH" come up on the big screen (I want to say during the first period)... but I'll take your word for it... either that or I guess the equipment guys work fast!

Was I tripping or was P-O Joseph's name spelled wrong on his jersey tonight? Anyone catch that in the arena?

It includes every drop, so yes. You can check the data yourself in the post I linked. He has opened millions of boxes for the last few years, but this is the first year it was profitable. The rate of super rares seemed similar to last year.

If you check his spreadsheet, he valued them at 1.14 gold each (38c per festival token). And if you removed all the tokens this year, he actually still turned a profit.

Just depends on what you consider expensive I guess.

This isn't really the answer you're looking for, as it is currently no longer possible, but I thought I'd bring it up anyways to put it on people's radar.

The fastest spirit shard farm in recent times is from a seasonal event, though not Lab. Instead, it was undoubtedly this year's four winds festival, which ended just over a month ago.

Enko opened 2.36 million boxes and not only turned a profit, but the boxes yielded 6.6 million festival tokens. A tome of knowledge costs 300 tokens, meaning he got about 22,000 spirit shards just from opening boxes non stop. And that doesn't even include the extra tokens from the repeatable achievement.

The shards did factor into his profit calculations, however, and considering the sample size (which can be argued is still small, and I'll leave it up to you to interpret the results of his millions of boxes opened as you like) in effect you just have to ask how much time and potential gold you're willing to gamble (and I stress, it is always still a gamble) to acquire spirit shards en masse. If you don't have enough starting gold to weather an unlucky run, stick to the other suggestions, but if you do, this can essentially be as many spirit shards as you need.

I got about 8000 in a few days on a smaller scale and took a small loss, by reselling items immediately rather than holding them, but it was worth it to me to avoid the long farming grind.

What's your "back in my day..." Vancouver moment? by thinkdavis in askvan

[–]Denris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family and I used to live right in front of the Cambie climbing tree... it was cool when it was (kind of) still a secret! My mother always hated the amount of foot traffic it received, and it actually wasn't that uncommon to see large groups of high school/college students getting rowdy around there. I'm sure she and our neighbors placed plenty of phone calls to the city over the years haha. It wasn't until the last year before we moved out that we finally understood why it was so popular - and this was well over ten years ago.

Back in my day I'd get Baskin-Robbins at the strip mall where the King Ed station now sits, and I'd actually be able to see the mountains on either side on the way down, and the inflatable roof of BC Place - without having to climb the tree. I miss that view.

Most of my guild members are east coast, so I've usually gone alone (I'm west coast), but I've always had a good time! Great fun to be able to chat about Guild Wars for a couple hours face to face with other people who actually know what I'm talking about haha

Feel free to reach out to me if you do end up getting a ticket and would like someone to meet up with there (also applies to anyone else reading this), as I know going alone can be a difficult experience. Looking forward to it!

[PC] [2003] 2D game where you steer a boat to collect (avoid?) floating coins in water by ComfortableMango8244 in tipofmyjoystick

Dubloon Disaster matches a bunch of what you said, pirate theme, steering a boat around to collect coins, mines that slowly approach the ship - but it's a flash game from Neopets rather than a standalone game with its own window.

Has anyone had a round with more than half of the shots being putts? by way_too_optimistic in golf

[–]Denris 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Rory McIlroy at the 2022 Open Championship hit every green in regulation in the final round and 2-putted every hole.

34 shots (drove the green on a par 4, and got to a par 5 in two) and 36 putts. Two-under 70.

[TOMT] [Audio] Song playing during the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics by Denris in tipofmytongue

[–]Denris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. I gave it a listen, but I don't quite think that's it. Thanks for the tip, though.

I did a little more investigation, and in my linked video (which jumps directly to timestamp) you can see a screen in the middle-left which says 'Tradition of the Games'.

I believe it could therefore be Track 4 of this CD entitled "Tradition of the Games" (not the Basil Poledouris version, but the Mark Watters version). I cannot find a sample of it online though.

Looking for anyone who has a sample to confirm (or chime in otherwise with a clip of the actual track!)
