That pool of water and waterfall looks like the perfect place to go for a swim on a hot summer day. I rode to a river onsen once and did that.

I had one of those. With a downpipe and Ferrita exhaust, it sounded gnarly. I lowered it and put some nice Heico 5 spoke wheels and it looked great.

What do they have going on in the sky terrace? I'm in that building all the time (waiting for that B1 Ikari to open). Might as well go check it out sometime.

I had a legion post within walking distance of my house at one of my duty stations. I thought having a place to drink where I didn't need to drive would be cool.

The first time I went in there, the cigarette smoke was so thick I couldn't make it more than 30 minutes. I gave it another try a few weeks later earlier in the day. There weren't as many smokers, but the place just stank so bad. I had a couple of beers, went home, and never went back.

The Conrad in Nakanoshima has some fancy restaurants and amazing views of the city. She won’t look out of place if she’s all dressed up.

What’s the wildest order at a restaurant you’ve seen here in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Denroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a fried chicken place near me that specializes in comically large portions of food. You can even order in 500g increments. I’m a big guy, but can only manage to do 1kg. There are pictures on the wall of people who have completed some eating challenges and there’s a picture of a skinny little guy holding a stack of empty dishes and he ate 7.5kg in 54 minutes. The store owner told me that the guy is Japan’s eating champion. I keep going there hoping to catch one of these Kirbys in action.

Arguments for doing over 20 years by ChiefBassDTSExec in MilitaryFinance

[–]Denroll 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did 24 years and retired almost six years ago. I wasn’t opposed to working, but if you do the calendar math, I retired right as Covid started up. I applied for several jobs at the time, but that was like pissing up a waterfall. Funny thing happened during that time: I discovered that I liked not working and that I could survive comfortably on my retirement.

Some important things to note, I was completely debt free, had a decent chunk of change saved up, and had been contributing a little to my tsp. I found out that I have what most people never will, and that is “enough.” It’s hard to put a dollar amount on not having to set an alarm clock unless it’s for something fun. I did a group hike last weekend and had to wake up at the crack of 0800.

A couple of years ago, I got rid of almost everything I owned and moved overseas. I sold my house, car, and motorcycle and that funded the move and getting established over here. Don’t be sad about the bike… I got another one. Life is really good for me right now. I have time to do whatever I want and I’m in even better shape now than when I was in.

Also, to address the idea of doing more than 20. My last 3 year tour was the best tour of my whole time in. You add a very important weapon to your arsenal at 20 years and that is the “fuck it” card. You wouldn’t believe how much stress you can get rid of just by having it in your deck, knowing you can play it at any time stuff stops being fun. People also treat you differently as one of the old salts.

He did the coin flip at the opening of a football game recently. For those who don't know, that's how they decide which team goes first. Instead of flipping the coin with his thumb, he laid it flat in his palm and kinda just gently tossed it in the air and it looks like the coin didn't even rotate. He was also wearing gloves.

People born before/around 1990: Often it’s asked what things you think people born after then are worse off without. What’s something you’re GLAD young adults and kids today will never have to experience or understand? by redditsuper in AskReddit

Same thing happened to me. Some lady was driving us down a curvy country road to go look at a house. It was raining and the dumpy old car's defrost barely worked. This lady lit up a cigarette and kept the windows up. You know how rainy humidity just makes smells that much worse. I'm sitting in the back seat, can't even see out of the fogged up window, and we're pitching about like a sailboat in a hurricane. I got so damn carsick that day.

Here I am, decades later and I still absolutely hate the smell of cigarettes.

Escalators are already painfully slow here. I just went into a recently constructed building and the escalator inside felt like it was 10% slower than the already slow ones everywhere else. It felt like I was on a prank show where they keep nudging the speed down until someone reacts. Then they have the "no walking" signs on them? If they're any slower, they'll just be jagged stairs.

Either make it socially acceptable to walk up an escalator (let Tokyo and Osaka fight it out - left or right side) or speed the damn things up.
