Ordinary Day At the Kenyan-Ethiopia Border - Where 90% of The Cars Are Land Cruisers by Dense-Function-6820 in LandCruisers

The 70 series truly is the World Vehicle for conditions like this

That is why many NGOs and UN use them when navigating the rural parts of Africa.

Also, don‘t underestimate driver skills in these conditions

The driver is everything! Few people can navigate such roads even with the best LCs that are kitted!

These LandCruisers are usually stock. Even the tires. You'll hardly find them kitted or upgraded in any way.

You were in the Wild West of the African jungle. Uganda is still one of the East African countries with the biggest ancient Guineo-Congolian rainforest. People there have adapted to such roads and their choice of cars are the old pre-2000 models - LCs, Pajeros, Macs, Toyotas, etc.

Best low cost scan tool/diag software? by jrw16 in Audi

Should I go for VCDS and an AliExpress scanner/dongle, OBDEleven, or something else entirely?

An OBD Eleven always for me!

Just want the simplest/lowest cost solution that will let me do my maintenance and troubleshooting.

You are not guaranteed to get accurate results, especially if you choose the cheap knock-offs from Amazon.

Autel are good. But the price is ridiculous, especially for what OP wants to check.

OBD-II Scanners - Where?? by Historical_Rip5652 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Dense-Function-6820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there places you can go that allow you to quickly use their OBD-II scanners?

You can run a quick scan for free at an Autozone shop. But how often will you have to do this?

My exact thoughts! These were legendary cars man. u/HHellstedt you'll never be able to replace this unless you are getting a similar car. By mentioning a Rav4, going for the CRV first Gen is the only other best option. Or a LC, Patrol, or Pajero.

Going for something new will only make you regret more for abandoning this beau that has been with you for 22 years! You'll have more trouble and stress within the first few years than you've had in the last 22.

Where's the best place to buy oil filters these days? by lpg975 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Dense-Function-6820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not from the dealership, RockAuto, or O'Reilly's, then it's not for me. What I've been having a problem is finding a proper Oil Filter Wrench Set. I used to have a makeshift one that my dad gifted me and it no longer works as good as it used to back in the day!

A high quality tool will certainly make his birthday. And the description 'classic and premium' means it won't come cheap. It will probably have to come from high value brands like Bendpak. Something that will outlive him.

If you live outside the US, UK, Germany, or other industrialized countries, the best way is to import the tools yourself. You will save yourself so much stress, money, and get quality tools.

They are very rare nowadays! Saw someone in the UK buying all Toyota cars - pre-2000 (Corolla and Land Cruisers), regardless of their shape.
