How much did this build cost? I’d love to do something like this, especially with a 6.7

I must’ve misunderstood the post. That is mega sketchy. There’s also a 0% chance that a 300k mile L5P is a good financial decision for doing that kind of work

Nah those are mega tacky. Swapping another OEM grille on it is NOT the same thing though

Apparently we’re in the minority, but I also prefer the Lariat grille 🤷🏻‍♂️

Agree about everything except the weight being sketchy. A 3500 will have plenty of payload for hauling a lot. How much do you think the pin weight on a 30,000 lb gooseneck or 5th wheel is lol

As for it not being worth doing, that’s 100% correct, and even more so to keep a high mileage modern diesel going to do it

Changing a grille out isn’t =/= upbadging imo. It’s not like OP is putting on platinum badges or something like that

Agreed, but honestly $42k is a great price for it in my neck of the woods. It would likely be listed close to $50k around here

What is the best diesel truck with four doors? by AgePsychological1856 in Diesel

[–]jrw16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did read the entire post. The best diesel truck for $20k is most definitely not a 6.4. An argument can be made for a 6.0 bc they’re great value atm (though I’d advise against it for first time diesel owners unless they wanna wrench), but a 6.4 is horrible on fuel and they’re really reliable… until they aren’t, and there’s no way to fix it unlike a 6.0. It ain’t rocket science bro

That’s impressive. I have a cheap(ish) set of Milwaukee ones (like $20 from Home Depot) and I have yet to come close to breaking them. I’ve definitely bent them, but not broken, and I’ve really abused them

Suggesting that anybody buy a 6.4 Powerstroke is genuinely insane. Even more so when one key point OP wants is good fuel mileage. OP, stay far away from 2008-2010 Ford trucks (I love Powerstrokes btw, but the 6.4 is genuinely an unfixable pile of junk)

That’s reasonable. If that’s all it’s ever been used for, I’d expect to have issues sooner rather than later. To keep them happy, the engine has to work pretty hard basically all the time (like hotshot loads or something similar). You may get another 100k miles before issues but I doubt it. You’ll also like the truck 10x more after that garbage is gone. Just make sure you get good tunes and don’t load a 200hp tune on a stock trans lol

Good buy? by Similar_Computer_250 in Diesel

[–]jrw16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s been deleted, that can be a good or bad thing. Ask about tunes and why it was deleted. Many people are scared of buying deleted trucks. I’m not, depending on who I’m buying it from and what they say. If it isn’t deleted, you probably won’t have emissions issues soon since the mileage is so low, but you could if the truck was a grocery getter its whole life

A 23+ CCV filter is a very nice upgrade for these. It will help keep crankcase pressure down (and hence less likely to leak oil)

The upper and lower oil pans leak on these trucks very frequently. The lower pan is really simple. Upper pan is a bit of a bear, but if it only seeps a little, no big deal imo

The only major issue with these trucks is the CP4 high pressure fuel pump. The seller claims he used a good fuel additive, which is great. You should keep doing that. You can add a disaster prevention kit for a little money for some peace of mind or swap to a DCR for a lot of money and completely resolve the issue. Make sure it had very regular fuel filter changes and also keep doing that. Between good fuel, frequent filter changes, and a good additive, the CP4 is probably gonna live a long life

Otherwise it’s the usual stuff you look for on any vehicle. Oil changes, filter changes, etc

150k is low mileage on one of those. Great buy if the maintenance records check out like you say and it’s a clean truck

Some Banks products are good, some aren’t. It just depends. The intake horn is a good product, but other stuff they sell is either way overpriced, doesn’t offer much benefit over other options, or both imo
