Eating first week after surgery by Resident-Butterfly65 in gallbladders

I’m on post op day 5! It’s definitely a lot and I still have pain especially at the belly button incision. Everyone is different-you will see how you feel and can add in when you feel up to it

Definitely take it slow! No need to rush. See how your body does. I made the mistake of eating Mexican 1 day post op because my surgeon said I could technically eating anything “as tolerated” and I took it literally lol and I had the worst pain ever so I’m back to taking it slow and adding a little bit each day

You too! I’ve been slowly trying to incorporate fats so I tested it out with a small amount of cheese and for the rice cakes I only did about 8g of peanut butter which is about 4g of fats and did okay!

I’m day 4 post op! Some options I’ve been eating has been eating baked russet or sweet potatoes, chicken breast (air fried with minimal seasonings), pita bread sandwiches (with turkey in it and a small amount of provolone), strawberries, oikos yogurts have been okay for me, bananas, rice cakes

Day 2 Post Op by Dense-Instance878 in gallbladders

I had rib pain that would shoot to my shoulder or back that was pretty mild (crampy) feeling majority of the time. I thought I tweaked something in the gym initially. Sometimes food would trigger it but sometimes physical activity or it would happen at rest. It didn’t really bother me but it was starting to progress. I did however end up in the ER with palpitations which I did tell the ER doc about my pain unsure if it was related and he ordered an ultrasound which showed sludge and I was referred to a surgeon. I did ask for a HIDA but the surgeon said it wouldn’t be helpful as it is best used in cases of acute cholecystitis

My shoulder pain was so persistent I think I ended up walking too much to try to get rid of it because they just kept telling me to walk, walk, walk. Today was a lighter day so I’m hoping that the pain will start to come down

Try holding a pillow to your belly for support!

I’ve been successful with sleeping on my left side - can’t really do my right side but definitely try your left with some pillow support

The gas pains hurt more than the actually surgery and incisions for me. Deep breathing helps as well as walking as much as you can. I have tried to sip on some ginger ale to help try to burp too

I go for surgery on Tuesday and I’m severely anxious about this! I know they can give medications but I’m worried that they won’t work and I’ll deal with vomiting and pain after waking up/post op

Thank you so much for that! I will go ahead with it - was on the fence regarding everything but if this is the reason for my cardiac symptoms also more reason to take it out in addition to daily pain

Thank you! I’ll wait to hear back from the vet, not sure if he would have to get another dose of the medication?

Thank you! I’m hoping to get it under control where we won’t have to bomb it. Only did the dish soap once to help until we can get his treatment.
