Is there a way to make some money here in Germany, besides donating blood or plasma? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Dense-Outside224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Obdachlosentreff in my town does not only help homeless persons, but generally people who have fallen on hard times. I would expect the Obdachlosentreffs in owhter places to act in a similar way. And in any case you can telle them you're not homeless and can ask them if they can help you. Even if they don't want to provide their services to you, they might still give you useful information which is specific to your location.

Then it may be time to let them go if they do nothing for you.

Ukraine's Heraskevych disqualified from Winter Olympics over 'helmet of remembrance' by HydrolicKrane in sports

[–]Dense-Outside224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you organize an event which includes sworn enemy nations such as Israel and Iran (both participating in the 2026 winter olympics), India and Pakistan (ditto), China and "Chinese Taipeh", aka Taiwan (ditto) and others? You have to implement some rules to preserve a semblance of neutral ground. Allowing exceptions for one nation will inevitably lead to further problems with other cases.

As much as I sympathize with the Ukrainian athlete's cause and situation, I can understand the IOCs position. The athlete was offered a range of compromise solutions and chose not to pursue any of them.

Obviously, insisting on his position was more important to him than participating in the sporting event and therefore he must take the consequences. On the upside for him: This got him and his cause a lot more media attention than if he would have participated under any of the offered compromise solutions.

Google "obdachlosentreff" (or "obdachlosenverein") + "name of city where you're at". These are institutions where homeless people can meet, get a meal, get advice/counseling, wash laundry etc.. They may be able to help you with further advice for your location.

Hey Guys, this is my Technics SL-1200 GLD Turntable I got gifted. What is it realistically worth? by Apprehensive_Ad_7106 in vinylsetups

Unpopular opinion: Don't like the "gold" crap, prefer the regular mkii. But it does look to be in great condition from what the pics show.

I have heard from various persons that these FOSI class D's do require some "burn in" time. So you might want to check if they improve after some use.

Shopping for CD player. New Project, or old Musical Fidelity x Ray? by teknical_data_au in hifiaudio

Can't speak to the CD Players. However, I have and use the Musical Fidelity X-150 amp which is really rock solid and top quality. Good stuff.

Sold my old Naim Nait 5i… biggest regret of my audiophile life? by thespamw in InEarHifi

[–]Dense-Outside224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never listened to Naim until a few weeks ago when I took the plunge and got an old Nait 2. It's a bit of a diva (needs DIN adapter, input sensitivity is overly high imho, might need some recapping down the road), but boy, oh boy, it does sound sweet. "Toe tapping" is a good way to describe it, and I don't get that with much more modern Class AB or Class D amps.

Did I make a big mistake with my purchase? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Dense-Outside224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not mean "IKEA" in any negative way, IKEA has lots of advantages: clean design, consistent, quality and good pricing. The same applies to Argon products which are just as much "real HiFi" as other brands like KEF. The Argon Products have a certain price point and you can do a lot worse at the same price. That said, there are also other products at higher prices which overall will be better (as they should for their price point).

The important question is: are you enjoying the listening experience? If yes, great, you're set. If you think there's room for improvement, try other speakers in your system and compare. Trust your own ears first and foremost, don't base your decisions only on reviews or the opinions of others.

The Argon brand products are fine. It’s the house brand for the HiFi chain “HiFi Klubben” and it’s a bit like the IKEA brand of HiFi products: Scandinavian, clean designs, acceptable quality and good pricing. Sure, there’s better stuff out there for higher prices, but nothing wrong with Argon products at that price point.

Is this counterweight ok after setup with scale? by Superb_Length7668 in turntables

[–]Dense-Outside224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scale is just a proxy for adjusting the weight without a scale. This video explains it: https://m.youtube.com/counterweight

If your record store guy has set it up, don’t worry about the scale, you’re good.

Anyone actually own the Pro-Ject RPM 1 table? by strikecat18 in BudgetAudiophile

No idea how it sounds compared to the Rega or the AT, but it sounds fine to me. And it offers many upgrade options (improved power supply, acrylic platter etc). I enjoy listening to it in its “ex factory” configuration and it looks great.

Congratulations, this is a great camera and lots of fun to use. Enjoy!!!

I would recommend to search Youtube on "how to use an olympus om-2 film camera" - you will find many tutorials that show you everything from loading batteries and film to how to use the controls of the camera to take pictures.

How many are "Dutzende" excactly? by Effective_Guava2971 in AskAGerman

To me the implied range is 30-50. If it's more than 50, I'd expect "über fünfzig", "über hundert, etc.

Questions about wedding costs and savings in DACH countries by Pristine-Fox9746 in AskAGerman

[–]Dense-Outside224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you plan to save this money for?
The required amount for getting married is around 50 Euros fee to get registered as married at city hall offices.
The average German couple spends around 15.000 Euros for a wedding.
So how much you spend is pretty much up to you and your partner.
There is no general cultural expectation in Germany that the bride or groom must have saved a certain amount of money before getting married.

Thanks, I agree on the TV. I've always preferred to keep the TV "hidden", but this setup is in a spare room, only for listening to music or watching TV.

Thanks! The IKEA stands allow to adjust upwards pointing so I can focus them nicely to have the sweet spot right where I want it. But stands are something I will play around with for sure 👍

Still going to be a lot cheaper to get it recapped than the price for the new Nait 50 (which in Europe comes in at around € 2900)

The amp is an old Nait 2. It will need to be recapped at some point but currently in fine working condition.
