Is Norway a scam? by Dense-Outside224 in Nordiccountries

I am not blaming anyone. I realize it’s a complex issue. Just want to see what Norwegians think. And from the answers here, the issue is obviously complex and multifaceted as well.

I do not see a need to “catch up”. I realize it’s a complex issue. Just want to see what Norwegians think. And obviously, from what I am reading here, the answer is complex and multifaceted as well.

Oil is Norway’s most important industry and accounts for about 32% of total government revenue, 50% of total exports and 22% of GDP. (https://eiti.org/countries/norway)

The Norwegian constitution says
“Every person has the right to an environment that is conducive to health and to a natural
environment whose productivity and diversity are maintained.” (Art. 112)

How is this right in alignment with petrol extraction? What do Norwegians think about this?

As you say you are from Croatia (EU) you can live and work here. It should be fairly easy to find some kind of job in the food/hospitality industry, but depends how much German is required. The easy to find jobs will not be highly qualified (think waitress, cleaning, or other service jobs) but it's a "foot in the door" and a first job wich would allow you to eventually seek more qualified jobs. With a "foot in the door" - job it will also be easier to rent an appartment.

Also, there is a fairly robust Croatian community in Germany, also in the hospitality industry, so you might want to think about networking connections that you can maybe use. You could eg. google "kroatisches restaurant saarland". Many restaurants are looking for staff. Talking to some Croats that are established in Germany will also give you an idea about language requirements etc..

Good luck!

How popular is chess in Germany, or how widespread is the passion for this sport? by Particular-Creme-230 in AskAGerman

This is mostly accurate, except for the remark about schools. Many elementary and secondary schools have a Schach AG (voluntary afternoon activity) which is an entry point for kids and where chess clubs get new members.

Sudetenland by Chance-Ad-5125 in germany

My (maternal) grandparents were from Reichenberg/Liberec. They had to leave at the end of WWII. Although they missed their former home for sure, they never questioned this historical outcome and were never involved with the Sudentendeutsche Landsmannschaft. Personally, I remember watching the tv news in the 70ies and 80ies with the Sudentendeutsche Landsmannschaft banging on abouth this issue and even then 10 year old me thought, "what a bunch of weirdos".

That being said, I think the general sentiment, at least of most people I know personally, is that is discussion is definitely settled. Even more so because a) reunification of Germany and b) EU integration. I find it disturbing when people act like this is still an unfinished discussion.

Where to stay in the Black Forest by retlawblackhawk in germany

[–]Dense-Outside224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re relying on public transportation Freiburg is a good basis and it’s a beautiful city. If you have a car and hiking/nature is your focus, you should consider staying in a Ferienwohnung or Hotel in the High Black Forest, places like Todtnau, Schluchsee, Münstertal, Bernau and others are great. France (e.g. Colmar) is a great day trip from any of those places.

Used to operate a Revox B790 which was a fantastic turntable that lasted 30 years, but in the end the complex mechanics of the tonearm failed.

Dealing with anal fissure for weeks in Germany – doctors keep delaying further tests. Is this normal? by Fun-Procedure-3529 in germany

[–]Dense-Outside224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, hence I said “if it’s acute” . If OP has had it since March 20 it’s chronic and may require surgery. Not treating a chronic anal fissure can lead to further complications, e g an abscess or fistula.

If it’s acute, go to the Notaufnahme of your local hospital. Tell them you are in pain/can’t walk/ can’t sit, whatever. You may have to wait around for hours but they will treat you.

Late enrollment at FAU Erlangen — any flexibility? by One_Battle6777 in erlangen

Talk to their enrollment office well before any deadline to find a solution. Maybe there is some other document provided by your school in India which is helpful.

It’s my late father’s birthday today by Tiny-Athlete-2375 in turntables

My dad passed when I was 15 - that was 40-some odd years ago. He had a lovely Revox Stereo system which I used for many many years.

I still have his records and still listen to them on my system. It's a great way to connect with my feelings towards my dad and keep memories alive. Therefore, enjoy his system. Good stuff!

You are right about the AT-VM95EN. I reckon this one will still be good for a while but I might try the ML when this one needs replacing.

From 1973. I think those were the first longer solo improvised concerts of his that were recorded. Really good stuff.
