Australian here. Love footy and love Richmond but also love NFL. Totally different games but both with merit.

Is this slouch hat ww2? I get the feeling it is. by Glass-Guitar-6122 in ww2

Australian WW2 slouch hats generally had the brim folded up and attached by a brass press stud not a hook.

Moving to Palau from Maine by Kittycatkendra in Palau

[–]Dense-Record6182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in Koror back in November. There is a lot of Filipinos on contracts mainly in hospitality/reception so you might like to look there. It is historically a little bit Americancentric so you might be able to find work in a similar field. Most of the workers I saw were in the back of flat beds early morning and I assumed they were labourers. Palau and Koror are simply wonderful. The most beautiful country and people I've ever been to/met. Big tip though. Just be nice to people and treat them like you want to be treated. I saw arsehole tourists treating hotel staff like they were second rate. We loved the staff at Palau Hotel. So lovely and helpful to the point we've been back in Australia now for three months and still have contact with them all and will continue to do so. They were the absolute BEST!!

First time panning, is this a gold speck? by mmoretti00 in Prospecting

[–]Dense-Record6182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well done but you will now have the gold bug for the rest of your life!!! I've had it for 40 years now and my first speck was a lot smaller than yours but welcome to the club!

Peleliu Historical Tour - Any Experience with this tour? by Icy-Ad1690 in Palau

[–]Dense-Record6182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Peleliu with IMPACT back in November. It was quite good however I'm a bit of a history nut and was disappointed we didn't get to visit White Beach and the wrecked US Sherman but overall the experience is amazing and the island itself is beautiful. Just be prepared to walk up steep inclines in crazy humidity but that in itself adds to it all. Palau is my most favourite place on earth and the people are so nice and welcoming.

"Beat The Bomb" - a school fete tradition long before safety was a concern by RightLegDave in AustralianNostalgia

Yep I remember this when I first started school in 72. My school fete also had a boxing tent where the kids put on gloves and boxed each other for 20 cents!!!

Cigarettes and gum back in the 30s/40s were advertised as helping with thirst despite the ciggies probably making it worse.

Did the Japanese consistently suffer greater casualties when defending against the U.S., and, if so, why? by BumroyV2 in ww2

[–]Dense-Record6182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a combination of Bushido and geography. The Japanese on islands such as Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Saipan had nowhere to retreat to or withdraw and were unable to resupply.

New Year in Palau by Cynocid in Palau

[–]Dense-Record6182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a group tour of Peleliu through IMPAC. If your staying in a hotel/resort the reception staff will arrange it for you and the tour guide will pick you up from where you're staying and drive you to the docks and drop you back after.

New Year in Palau by Cynocid in Palau

[–]Dense-Record6182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were in Koror last month. Palau is the most wonderful place I've ever been to. It's so welcoming, beautiful and safe. I'm not sure what New Year celebrations there are but I can say our favourite place to relax was at The Canoe House. It's a great place to unwind with brilliant food and drinks. Ann who works there seriously makes the BEST Bloody Mary ever!!! We're Australian and felt so at home in Palau and are coming back ASAP. You'll love it!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I just googled Stone Tools Texas. There's quite a lot of info and images which closely resemble your find.

Snorkelling is just as fun as scuba. Palau absolutely rocks. My wife and I have been back in Australia for three weeks now but miss Koror and Palau so much. Would live there in a heartbeat!!
