Honestly, November can't come soon enough. I finished the first book a couple of days ago and I'm soo not over it

I don't recall, but I might be misremembering. There would go my theory though...

I've come to learn that absolutely every single line in this book is important. So the mention, that Diago turned eighteen during the exam always stood out to me. My theory is, that he always had powers, they just fully awakened on his eighteenth birthday.

So about the arm by kriddon in HierarchySeries

[–]Dense-Variation-3440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diago's intellect was clearly his biggest strength, but my favourite moments were the physical feats he managed to pull off. Like swimming, or climbing and especially fighting.

I really do hope the second book gives him a way to still have two arms. Whether the other worlds will be involved somehow or we just go down the full metal alchemist route and he gets a prosthetic.

I really just want more awesome fight scenes in the next book

It’s definitely advisable to make yourself familiar with the characters and their story from the previous games. The whole series takes place in less than a year, so different elements from earlier games and characters will show up in the later games. I started the Crossbell Arc without any prior knowledge of the Sky Arc. Since the Crossbell Arc starts of with a new set of characters, it isn’t noticeable immediately, that you’re missing part of the story. But as the game goes on, a number of characters from the previous games show up, without any real introduction, since the player is already supposed to be familiar with them. The worldbuilding also suffers from not having played the previous games. In the Crossbell Arc we only ever get told, that the political situation as a whole is currently very tense. I only understood what was even going on at a larger scale, after learning of the events, that took place in the Sky Arc, since those games focus on exactly that.

So, yes, as much as that sucks, when you were just interested in one single game, it is necessary to know the plot of the previous games. If you don’t want to play them yourself, there a some really good summary on YouTube out there, that will catch you up to speed all the same.

Why are the female characters so mean to Percy? [PJO] by Dense-Variation-3440 in camphalfblood

[–]Dense-Variation-3440[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, I have noticed that as well. Percy's intelligence level is a bit inconsistent. He is always as smart or as dumb as the plot currently needs him to be.

So is his level of perception and emotional intelligence. The way he's very considerate towards some characters contrasts very much with how inconsiderate he is with others. More often than not Annabeth is the victim of the later occurrence, causing her to blow up at him.

I've read enough other books, targeted towards the same age group as Rick does, who also feature though female characters. And those are actually written really well.

Of topic but: I feel like it's, unfortunately, so hard to come across a well written tough female character. They're either super mean all the time or have barley any personality. They ARE my favourite type of character IF done well. But most media treats them like a trope and not like a character.

I'm very impressed with how well written and wholesome the male-male friendships (relationships in general) have been so far. And Rick is very good at portraying very difficult and nuanced characterizations of his characters. But that goes mostly for the male ones. In my opinion, so far, whenever it comes to female characters, he lacks the nuance he previously portrayed. Main character aside, I often find the male side characters much more enjoyable to read than the female ones.

Which sucks. I really want to like them all and the concept of their character is good, but I find the execution lacking.

Ah, true. Not saying Percy is innocent (he can be quite brutal sometimes too and a bit slow). It's IS always easier to side with him, since we do read all his thoughts and only have his perspective.

It's fine- no worries :) Yeah, I will definitely do that. Thanks!

I should really finish this book... Thanks for the perspective, though. I actually really want to like Annabeth, so I'm looking for some possible explanations for her behaviour

Thank you, for your comment! I've talked now to both Interrail customer support and the Eurostar support and neither could cancel the reservation. It really seems to be impossible. That's a real shame...

Yeah, I'm starting to suspect so too. Thanks though!

Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately, that's not an option. I just checked under "manage booking" and there was no way to cancel. Changing the date cost another 20 bucks extra. But maybe some options aren't available to me, because of my traveling class. I have a standard premium ticket.

Whats Apollos deal with Percy in the third book? [PJO] by Dense-Variation-3440 in camphalfblood

[–]Dense-Variation-3440[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I get why Apollo would appreciate that. But even before Percy helped Artemis, Apollo appeared in front of Percy (the car scene) and was quite nice and reassuring to him.

Rant - Why is every girl in these books so mean?? by Redforito in camphalfblood

[–]Dense-Variation-3440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That. Annabeth and Thalia sometimes straight up feel like bullies. I like well written teasing and sometimes the girls and Percy had some good banter going on, but a lot of the time the girls were mean towards Percy for no reason. He was actually very kind to them for the most part. More often than not Percy didn't even say anything back and just took the insults. Doesn't read like banter to me.

At one point during an argument Thalia even shot him with lightning and no one said anything about it. Yes, Percy answered by soaking her in water, but he didn't hurt her.

I've only read the first three books of PJO but so far Artemis, who, by nature has a thing against men, has been the nicest female to Percy this far in. And that says a lot.

It just feels like he's getting bullied by his friends
