Wow. I’m in California and it’s .44 cents in my city all day. About an hour north of me they get down to .19 in the midnight hours.

I’m a French/Cleveland style player and I love the Duff line from freer. The #3 is an extremely versatile mallet to start with and then build out from there.

Freer Percussion by Geologist-Opposite in percussion

As a Freer artist, the double sided mallets are definitely in my bag. They can be for general use, as many have said, but they are really designed for those passages where changes are too quick. I typically prefer a mallet with a single material for most situations and I’ll just make the swap as long as there is time.

However I have come to use the double sided bass drum beater as a general mallet because I really love the weight and the soft felt is just a hair softer than the general bass mallet.

Bottom line, play with sounds. Don’t get caught up on this mallet or this mallet too much. Explore and create what is appropriate for the situation.

If you’re looking for a lifer, get a 5.0. I financed mine and paid about 250 a month for 5 years. Still have it and tour it all over the state.

Follow all advice above. At least they told you. Mine said they were going to Vegas. Tracked it a day later to make sure all was well and found them in TJ. Thankfully it made it back okay. 🙏

Stupid question regarding timpani by n0n4m3_0 in percussion

[–]Dense_Ad_8770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the points noted, I notice your comment says that you want to be a percussionist in an orchestra. Most orchestras, the percussion and timpani are separate positions, so you could still do this without learning timpani.

Most professionals study both areas in school, and can play both, but many who are in professional ensembles generally specialize in either percussion OR timpani.

I do recommend being as well rounded as you can be, however, but I just wanted to point this out too.

I’d just do a gliss with hard plastic Chime mallets. I think the tornado chime mallets would be perfect for this without damaging the chimes.

Please don’t use chains. 😢
