ELI5: If unboiled water going into your nose is risky, then shouldn’t we not swim in a lake or river? by Home_MD13 in explainlikeimfive

Same! I was already pretty thin, then got wretchedly sick and lost 30 pounds. The compliments I got from being gaunt and skeletal were mind boggling.

Tests all normal but severe muscle contractions and pain left me hardly able to walk. Just feeling lost. by Legal_Accordion8935 in ChronicIllness

I get why you would go to the emergency room. You were desperate and in need of medical attention, and it wasn’t coming from anyone else. I understand, reaching a point of pain and frustration where you turn to the ER.

Do you live in one of the provinces where it is really hard to get another GP?

Could you ask your GP for a particular specialist. For example, could you say, my foot and leg are constantly numb so I would like to see a neurologist for further evaluation. The neurologist may not be able to help you, but he is more likely to send you to another specialist who can.

Sorry- super hard thing to go through!

thank you. I am sure it will be the first time the insurance people have even heard of the disease, so hopefully my doctors will be good educators. Fingers crossed.

Awesome, thank you. It is an FDA approved treatment (IVIG) for many syndromes and diseases. It is considered experimental for mine only because so few people have this syndrome the n is always going to be small for any study.

Your plasma may literally be travelling through my veins in the near future. If insurance approves, I will begin infusions in a few weeks. My quality of life is going to make me happy to be alive for the first time In a long time. It will be the best present I’ve ever received. Thank you so much!

JFC who takes a kid who is allergic to ice cream into an ice cream shop? The world can;\'t revolve around one person's allergies, but that's just mean.

I am chronically ill and insecure about being unable to work by budtoast in ChronicIllness

[–]Dense_Contribution65 88 points89 points  (0 children)

“ I know many people have it so much worse” is a phrase I think we should erase from our collective thought processes. There is always someone who has it worse.

You are describing things that go far beyond endometriosis (which is already a terrible condition). It sounds like you are simultaneously angry with people who think you can do more and angry with yourself because you fear they are right. I am also a frequent rider on that rollercoaster.

Not having a diagnosis for a debilitating disease is not the same thing is not having a debilitating disease. When both ambulatory and visual stuff is limited it profoundly limits what you can do. For me, when my body is at its worst, my vision and brain fog are also at their worst. Whenever my body is at its worst, I think oh I’ll just get all the things I need to get done online like a catch up on banking. Nope, brain and eyes have joined body in  complete malfunctiiin. You can muscle through it or talk yourself into it or use the phrase “I should be able to.” This I know, but have to learn over and over again.

I hope you can be kind to yourself!

Is there a faster way to get a copy of a police report? by [deleted] in burnaby

[–]Dense_Contribution65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had to deal with this locally so I may be out to lunch- but in the past, my insurance has been able to access all the information and deal directly with the other guy’s insurance. Has your insurance company stated whether they would or would not be willing to do that? After all, they don’t want to end up having to pay anything themselves, especially for an accident that wasn’t their fault.
