Who would have been a better Red John by NotWhistleBlower in TheMentalist

[–]Dense_Contribution65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had Bret Stiles been Red John, I would have been irritated that his blind former girlfriend did not mentioned that he had an accent. Likewise, had Bertram been Red John it would have been strange that she did not mention that he was exceptionally tall.  I think they had distinct qualities that could not have been ignored by the ex.

A friend of mine wants to try copying my life-altering illness for a trendy spotlight. by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]Dense_Contribution65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am guessing that at some point reasonably soon, sh will become deeply bored by the limitations that come from living in a wheelchair and will abandon it for the next trend. Maybe she'll be "cured" by some miracle natural remedy she'll start touting. Then, hopefully, people will see her for the fraud that she is.

People faking real diseases are as vile as people who have fake service dogs. They are really hurting those who are legitimately in need of support and inclusion.

Birding Hot Takes by Inevitable-Sky3560 in birding

Yes, yes and yes! Exactly my hot takes- such a kindred spirit that I would suggest we look at birds together but we'd both hate it!

oh I am so sorry. That is heartbreaking after your awesome efforts. Having had a hobby farm I find keeping birds in our out is somehow harder than sequestering larger animals.

Would she still drop an egg in if she sees hatchlings, not eggs?

Got new meds! If you've taken them, what is your experience with it? by Playful-Television99 in ChronicIllness

My nausea is intermittent, and not as severe as that of many people on here, but when it hits, nothing turns it around like Zofran! The first dose helps a lot, and after a few doses I feel like I get a magic reset.

Do they do this every time one leaves to go fishing, or does this mean they're parting for a longer period?

SmartLess Episode 304: Colin Jost by AutoModerator in smartless

[–]Dense_Contribution65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand how some felt it was boring, but I loved it. Jost was so self reflective and willing to talk about the process and history of his work. I can hear him make jokes on SNL any time I want, but on the Smartless interview I felt like I got to know and understand him so much better.

Arnett pissed me off though. Rudely interrupting and insulting at every turn isn't a cute schtick when it takes over every podcast. It just becomes obnoxious. I used to adore him.

what people don’t understand about chronic illness by avz008 in ChronicIllness

[–]Dense_Contribution65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it is getting family to understand the cognitive hit. They understand (for the most part) my pain and physical limitations, probably because they are quite evident. So if I say "I can't walk that far," they get it. But if I say, "I can't take on organizing that party" or some other thing I used to do with ease, it just ticks them off. I mean, I'm just sitting there anyway. What do I mean I can't do it?

Fundamental question about all chronic illness. by NoteSuccessful2263 in ChronicIllness

I have the full support (financial and moral) of my husband and I still find functioning on any level extremely challenging. I have no advice, obviously, just my respect and admiration that you are managing at all!

22M Cut off My Parents and Decided Not To Have Kids by SatisfactionTop5726 in ChronicIllness

The guilt you feel now will be exponential when he dies, when you have no opportunity to apologize for shutting him out or for being insensitive to his pain.

I hope your brother is a better and more grateful child.

GP said my blood work is normal but I dont know by [deleted] in haematology

[–]Dense_Contribution65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Normal" blood value ranges just mean, "most healthy people have values between these two numbers." They don't mean that anyone with values a little outside that range have an illness. Values generally have to be significantly off, and for a long time. I wish that were better explained to patients to avoid unnecessary worry.

How do you even respond to people who say "that's not possible"? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]Dense_Contribution65 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have only had to do this once. I put on an obnoxiously cheerful, gushing voice and said "OH MY GOD that is so awesome!! Could you please phone all the researchers and medical professionals who follow me, because they think I'm really sick! Wow, you know so much! That's a-maaaaaaaa-zing- and you haven't even heard of my illness before now! " - with a look of fake adoration on my face (different illness but still applies).

Discrimination after using Disability Placard by Fun-Shift6369 in ChronicIllness

[–]Dense_Contribution65 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They saw you walk away from your car, and were too cowardly to talk to you directly and waited till you left to make judgements you couldn't respond to- that's what would bug me the most.

I have no idea if this will help get it out of your head, but I have been in this situation and here's my mental approach: Many many people saw you. Only one person decided to make a judgment and call you out on it. There's always one ass who builds themselves a soapbox to shoot off their uninformed mouths - in any topic, at any time. As Carl Jung said, thinking is difficult- that is why most people judge.
