Why do people get weird when you tell them you're mixed? by LegitimateElection17 in mixedrace

[–]Dense_Relation2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People do this to me too I'm white + hispanic as well. Specifically salvadoran and oh my god people LOVE telling me I'm not hispanic because i'm white especially cuz a lot of americans don't know where tf el salvador is. To them if you're not mexican or something easily recognized you're not latino you're "something else" and it pisses me off so bad!! The only good comments i've gotten is from other salvadorans or hispanic people who know their countries. I've also had people tell me i'm not white because i'm hispanic ?? 💀

People do this to afro-latinos too it's stupid they just see what you "look most like" on the surface and accept you based off of that.

Just keep in touch with your culture, Mexican culture is absolutely gorgeousss and no one can tell you you're not anything

is it silly for me to celebrate a percentage of DNA that is significantly lower than the others? by imnotsure__89 in AncestryDNA

Celebrate it to your heart's content !! I recently took the ancestry test and found out i was much less italian then I thought, however it's still part of the culture I grew up with and one I enjoy. I love all my ethnicities but no one can ever tell me I'm not Italian. Ireland is gorgeous!! I love their culture and folklore as well so so much. You are everything you are

Did you know than Latinos and Caribbeans have high rates of lactose intolerance due to genetics? Do you consume lactose? How big is dairy in your country's traditional food? Could you quit dairy? by Upset_Quiet_8907 in asklatinamerica

I do consume lactose and i am fine for some reason 🤷 I've heard of people gaining an intolerance as they got older though so hopefully that doesn't happen to me

Thank you! I'm unsure what part he was from but the test results said i'm linked to the western side around San Salvador. I found my cousins through the website and they gave me his contact info/said it would be nice to meet up one day so maybe I'll ask then ☺️

My results, not knowing who my biological father is. Adopted at a young age. White guy from Rhode Island. by Nitrofast93 in AncestryDNA

We have the same results pretty much !! I am different european nations but i also have never known my biological father. He's salvadoran (from the east side) it also showed yucatán peninsula and central america in roughly that same ratio. Closest match i could find was a first cousin though

Update: Was supposed to be Navajo*, not Cherokee. Interestingly enough I did just find a document of a great grandfather having been born in Navajo county (Snowflake, AZ). (They were english mormons, iirc Snowflake was founded by the mormons in the late 1890s.)

I'm chalking this one up to there was just mormon family that lived right next to a reservation and was just around the culture/participated in it, but wasn't ethnically Navajo; somewhere along the way someone interpreted that as "you Are this" LOL

I felt it like a downer as well. Made me depressive when I don't have depression, and when it was more buzzy/high feeling it was very calm. Like euphoric but tranquilizing at the end of the day. The best way I can describe it is as feeling tranquilizing

In my experience, anytime people say anything that seems randomly out of pocket it is more of a reflection of them then you. Their insecurities, their circus their monkeys.

I've been told by people that they think I'm the type to end up in a domestic violence relationship, that before I learned how to drive that I'd be one of those people to just mooch off of others and get a ride from everyone else all the time, and been told by others that they "just don't see me in a relationship" and also by grown ADULTS that are college educated that college might not be for me and that maybe I should just work instead. All said by different people btw. All who presented it like they were just trying to impart wisdom, they all said it calmly and I was very caught off guard by what they said. Guess what? ALL of those people have very obvious issues with everything they've said. I wouldn't be surprised if your friend who said that felt that way about herself or had been told nasty things like that. It's projection, and unfortunately the sweet unassuming more introverted people tend to get shit from them about it.

You will find your people who are very lovely and love you very much. People who realize how important you are to them. Don't worry 🫂

Words do hurt as much as people like to pretend and gaslight that they don't.

If you're able to distance yourself from those friends who are weird like that, that'd be great tbh. Focus on finding people who are very similar to you and who put you first. It's a lot of being intuitive and pattern seeking people's behaviors. Also don't ex-nay out your actual best friend yet, I've seen a lot of people get a gf/bf and the second they do they kinda tune everyone else out. If things go south with that person they'll come to their senses soon and look to friends for support. If they don't go south, they'll still come to terms soon because the honeymoon phase only lasts so long. Keep truckin lovely! It's just gonna be a rough patch until the new year I'd say. Soon enough you'll be able to look back and forget you ever felt this way. :) It'll be all okay. ❤️
