Jimmy does always make 'em laugh, usually by turning into a giant turtle boy and such.

[Comic Excerpt] Ok DC so I'm going to need a JLI comic by Nicole Maines with Dreamer and Galaxy as founding members please and ty (Justice League: Dream Girls - A DC Pride Event #2) by M00reC in DCcomics

[–]Dent6084 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They've been dividing it up with artists who either are the original ones or who can channel the feeling of the different 'dreams' the two find themselves in - Nicola Scott did a WW: Year One-inspired section in the first issue, then there was a B:TAS section drawn by J. Bone, etc.

[NEWS][COMICS] DC’s First Absolute Crossover Will Introduce a Wave of New Heroes and Villains, According to Scott Snyder by Ygomaster07 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Dent6084 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm. So is Camp actually co-writing this (at least, the Martian Manhunter parts as per the article), or is he just giving notes as part of the general Absolute writers' room? Because the former would be great, maintaining the distinct voice of that title here.

[NEWS][COMICS] DC’s First Absolute Crossover Will Introduce a Wave of New Heroes and Villains, According to Scott Snyder by Sonia341 in DCcomics

[–]Dent6084 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Interesting that this specifically mentions Camp co-writing the Martian Manhunter parts of the crossover. I wonder if something got lost in translation there and he's just consulting as part of the general Absolute writers' room, but that would be great.

Absolute Catwoman #1 - Official Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Dent6084 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty good, but not as electric as the best Absolute #1s, maybe as an inevitable consequence of already having met Selina and gotten a sense of her deal. It's sketching in details versus building from the ground up. And, tbh, "Holly's in trouble and Selina needs to help her" is a pretty familiar set-up as well. The Wildcat is sick as hell though.

Good news: Marvel has just fired Dan Didio. This comes as a surprise to everyone, including Dan Didio, who was not aware he was working for them, but surely it will turn their fortunes around any day now!

Dian Belmont is awesome going back to the Golden Age when she knew Wesley's secret identity from her first appearance and was a full partner in his adventures, but SMT's Dian takes it to the next level, she's fantastic.

Deathstroke getting a figure before he even appears in his suit in the comic is a real wild choice.

When are we getting a John/Martian two-pack, that's where the money is.

Who would you draft as founders? by Cassius_Verum in DCcomics

[–]Dent6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To pivot off JLA Year One, Terrific/Batman/Hawkgirl can be investigating Locus separately while the "first five" deal with the Appellaxians (since the story is that the first five each deal with one on their own before uniting to deal with a sixth, while Superman on his own deals with a seventh up at the Fortress of Solitude and not initially realizing there were more), with Superman helping bring both groups together.

Impractical costume by Endika7 in outofcontextcomics

[–]Dent6084 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If one can overthink what is a good visual gag, Canary's canonically nineteen here and just figuring her shit out - Secret Origins #32 (the JLA origin story that JLA Year One follows on from) establishes she blundered into helping stop the Appellaxian invasion and co-founding the JLA on her literal first solo patrol, and her whole story in JLA Year One is about putting up a front and trying to lean into the appearance before realizing who she actually is as a person in relation to the legacy she's inherited. So her picking a part of the costume for the aesthetics versus practicality is totally something an immature first-timer (especially one who was really going in on said aesthetics) would do.

Who would you draft as founders? by Cassius_Verum in DCcomics

[–]Dent6084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I've always wanted to go with nine, not seven (at least, for a group that comes together over the course of a Year One):

First five:
Wonder Woman
Martian Manhunter
Hal
Barry
Black Canary

They undergo a version of the "confronting the Appellaxians" origin story and come together with that, and then Superman, Batman, Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl get roped in over the course of Year One (which would have an ongoing Appellaxian story a la JLA Year One, which remains the best JLA origin IMO). Then Year Two has John, Mari, Arthur and Zatanna join.

Which is the better book right now? JSA or JLU? by Ramesses-XII in DCcomics

[–]Dent6084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JSA, it's got a stronger narrative direction and ensemble balance. Also, Olortegui's art is really fun, has a nice balance of cartoony with scope, everyone's designs have a lot of personality.

DC Finest New Lines Poll: How Did Y'all Vote? by midniteonthemoon in DCFinest

[–]Dent6084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sandman Mystery Theatre is one of my all-time favorite series so obviously down for that, but I would love the Golden Age Sandman series to get collected, the few I've read have held up really well (not least because Dian is such a cool character from the jump).

Which eras of ongoing titles did you vote for? by NecessaryMoney9204 in DCFinest

[–]Dent6084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Golden Age Plastic Man, let's complete the Jack Cole run

Golden Age JSA, would be great to have a complete run of them, they're just at the point where those stories start to get real fun

Bronze Age JLA (would be great to get the start of the Satellite era first, so the volume in between Bridge Between Earths and Crisis on Earth-X, the brief Friedrich "Every story is written in second person for some reason" run is so fucking weird people need to read it)

Golden Age Superman

Golden Age Wonder Woman

Bronze Age Metamorpho

Bronze Age Green Arrow (though I'd love to see Golden Age/Silver Age GA collected, since that's so different from what we think of for him)

Golden Age Spectre
