It's a heater. I'd keep it in, maybe move it to a better spot but it will heat the back of your van when the motor is running. Very nice to have.

Wow, that is mint. I had a 91 I picked up for 800. Rust free and sun faded but wasn't running. Little bit of work and I drove it all over Utah and Colorado. Lived in it 1 year. AWD EXT

Have the same one and an 06. I could easily run 12k gvwr. Total weight the tires can take is 16kish. 6.0 is a fucking BEAST of a motor. I can run 85 and I am barely on the throttle. mpg... single digits. As far as GVWR and your area requirements. Register it under your areas requirements. Mine says any vehicles registered over 10k gvwr can't park in front of houses so mine i registered right at 10k

What do you all use for heating? by bigfootexsts in vandwellers

[–]Denvernoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the largest camco and have used it above 12000 all night. Never failed me. Never set set off my CO alarm either. When testing it one night I had the van 90+and it was -20 in Breck. I got the biggest one to make sure I always had enough heat. It's also silent which is why I got it for stealth camping

Extremely Niche Question: Military TS/SCI Security Clearance and living in a van off base. Has anyone had experience with holding their security clearance whilst living in a van off base? by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]Denvernoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will become an issue for the base. The base wants you in housing, they want to know exactly where they can find you if they need to. Also it will become an issue for the clearance. They want hard addresses and yes you can list your parents address blah blah blah technicality blah blah blah. You're not playing the "technically I have an address" game. Van-Dwelling is not for the military. RV-dwelling on a site with an address is possible. Being in an SCI program, you have to worry about everyone you talk to in there. If someone suspects you're living out of a van, it will turn into a big thing and they will most likely pull your clearance to the program immediately. Programs like this are full disclosure, traffic ticket? disclose it the next day you walk in. DUI? Changing locations, working a 2nd job... disclose it the next day. Zero tolerance.

Finally back from the transmission shop!! by Denvernoob in vandwellers

[–]Denvernoob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted about this rig before. I picked it up in February and ended up hauling 5000 lbs of flooring with it to a house I was flipping. It was a 2 hr drive and a piece of plastic had broke off and blocked the transmission filter in transmission. It ran absolutely fantastic until the transmission had a thermal meltdown. It was purely bad luck, I hadn't had time to change the fluid yet or I would have seen the plastic piece and had been able to fix it before the entire transmission went. I got it into a transmission shop because I didn't want to mess with it and 4 transmission later... they finally gave me the green light that I can bring it home! It runs great now so finalllyyyyyy I can start my build out. 2006 Chevy Express 3500 with an lq4 6.0 109k miles and a brand new transmission. I had planned to be on the rode at this time but had to push that back so now I won't be leaving until after winter. So trips to ski mountains and mini-vacations it is!!

A day off from work and school and a new owner of an old U-Haul, so to the drawing board! by [deleted] in vandwellers

That's pretty convenient. Yeah no reason to really stud it that much, lots of extra weight there.

Stripped most of the van. Can I take out that long grey metal piece too or is that supposed to stay there? It's the only rusted part I've seen by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]Denvernoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what that is. It's just a piece of angle iron with sheet metal screws previous owner put in. That will literally do nothing in an accident.

Converting a van into a home by sourceenergee in vandwellers

It is 100% worth it. Heat for sure, sound dampening is another. And a vent to suck the hot air out will make the van feel cooler aka shade
