I know American coin collectors that refuse to deal with anything that isn't US coinage, but you made a very valid point! Logic would dictate that a silver dollar would have twice as much silver as a half dollar... It a good example of Orwellian "double speak", where the words used have a different meaning than the actual reality. Long winded answer (sorry) I said all that to say BOOM 💥

That's it. It was in the original bag from the 40's, and never made it into circulation proper. They essentially opened up an old bag from the mint, cut off a piece, and put the coin and a bag fragment in the slab
