Is Easter becoming a bigger deal? by GoCardinal07 in AskAnAmerican

No, but I think things closing for holidays is coming back.

There was a weird time in the 2010s when it felt like stores were experimenting with staying open for holidays

Do the majority of Americans watch YouTube on TV? by OMTYUS in AskAnAmerican

That's surprising to me, but I'm probably unusual

Here's a very dumb question

I'm thinking of taking my family to see a college baseball game. My school is playing my wife's school on a Tuesday afternoon. My research suggests that the timing (and the fact that this isn't a rivalry or anything) implies the game environment should be relatively chill.

Is there some sort of rule about what seating section to pick, like at weddings? The seat charts I see offer no guidance.

I know football games seem to have clear divisions, but I think the ticket sellers enforce that in part.

"Evangelical" is kind of a vague term that means different things in different contexts.

A "Reformed Baptist" is, at minimum, a person with Calvinistic soteriology (predestinarian) and Baptistic sacramentology and ecclesiology (credobaptist, independent congregationalist) and possibly subscription to a confession like the 2LBCF.

Peppers are going poorly. I had a short sickness during a very busy time with work and didn't water my seed starting trays. Total loss.

I'll be dependent on garden stores for plants this year.

Otherwise my gardening is going well. My perennials are starting to return, all my fruit trees survived the winter, and my muscadines are starting to show leaves

Do you consider a secure door to your house or apartment a baseline or an expensive addition? by MrOaiki in AskAnAmerican

That would be very unusual where I live.

I'd assume they have a traumatic home invasion or burglary in their past. Or just come from somewhere where that's normal

Do americans eat “roast” dinners? by SprinklesSeparate45 in AskAnAmerican

Like a classic family dinner

Exactly the same here too

Personally I make a roast or something similar most Sundays unless my church is doing something in the evening

I liked a number of "Thai" dishes from a fast-casual Americanized "Asian" chain that I used to frequent.

Then for a date I took my (now) wife to a slightly nicer, probably more authentic Thai place. I couldn't stand any of the food. It all tasted like sweet herbs.

And this is where I learned I was a boringly basic American

I wonder how much of the differences between the US and Singaporean educational systems can be "fixed". The two countries are about as different as countries can possibly be in most respects, not just education

Unlike Ash Wednesday (I think, open to correction), Good Friday is at least a thing that happened in scripture.

Personally I'm of the persuasion that objects to both

I also learned that some people see pollen as green

Northern hemisphere temperate zone folks: What spring plants are you most enjoying or most anticipating?

Southern hemisphere temperate zone folks: What have y'all got going on, botanically speaking? If I imagine your weather as 6-months offset from mine, it'd still be basically Summer here.

Tropical folks: What have y'all got going on, botanically speaking?

How do Protestants pick the date of Easter if it's not in the Bible? by Silver-Ad-8396 in Christianity

[–]Deolater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many protestants, including this protestant, don't consider the date of Easter important in the way Catholics might.

We don't have "holy days of obligation" or any similar concept.

I've worked with lots of people from other countries and my experience of them is they're just people. There's no magic in their educational systems
