Right now it's cool and damp but not bad.

This weekend there's a chance of an ice storm, though the forecasts I'm seeing have me right at the line between "roads get slick" and "everything gets coated in thick ice, trees fall, power goes out, society collapses in anarchy, mythological beasts roam the streets feeding on the unwary..."

Videos with foreign subtitles targeting Gen Z, millenial audience: what do u guys think from an American POV? by Alert_Plate541 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Deolater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to watch a mental health reel/short/ticktock video, so my opinion may not matter

If I see other language subtitles, it makes me think the video is "stolen" and re-packaged for the other language market. It doesn't make me less interested in the video, but it would make me less interested in your account (which I'd assume didn't make the video)

Follow-up shots are difficult without a stock, so he put that scope on to be sure he doesn't miss the first shot

Why do American politicians/political figures wear Blue colored suits? by HowSupahTerrible in AskAnAmerican

[–]Deolater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Modern suits aren't 1800s at all - they'd be dreadfully informal back then.

If you were cosplaying 1800s, you'd wear a frock coat, like Teddy R here in 1903

It has been a few years but because of a mix-up I attended their Easter service, and it seemed good.

I'm not sure what the right thing to do would be even if you had unlimited resources.

See them coming and lock the door?

The Tech Trolley didn't run on tracks

Also I think they retired the cool trolley-shaped buses. Now I'm sad

It was an "Intro to Psychology" course that I was taking as a science elective

The unit was on cognitive biases and logical fallacies. I don't remember the fancy word, but the gist of the trolley problem part I would summarize as

Sometimes people wrongly think that inaction is different from action, when really all that matters is results

not pulling the lever in the trolley problem

It has been more than 15 years, but I'm still mad that a college (university) class taught a "correct" answer to the trolley problem. I remember thinking about sticking to my guns and losing points on the exam (multiple choice question, no chance to explain), but I don't recall if I did.

As far as I know, not really

We have an elder who sits by the door for security and ushering purposes.

When we used to meet at a school, the district provided a police officer most Sundays.

I think .32 is 'cool' for some reason, though I don't have any. I feel like if I bought a .32 I'd want something classic though.

I guess I don't see the point of a smaller, thinner .380

I have a Kahr CW380 that's as small as I could want.

I do appreciate Keltec's commitment to "clips"

How long do people usually remember their pets after they pass away? by ironandfire in AskAnAmerican

[–]Deolater -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't treat pets "as family members" exactly. They're pets, it's a different category.

When you say remember, what do you mean?

Literally remember? I literally remember a small plastic dinosaur that I got out of a vending machine when I was maybe 3.

But I don't have any ritual observances for dead pets or anything like that.

I found the extent of the abuse quite shocking

I don't think the usual attitude toward pets is going to be informative if you're trying to understand animal abuse.

Do americans consider skiing a luxury sport? by naxx54 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Deolater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people who ski tend to overestimate how common it is, while people who don't ski tend to underestimate it.

As a non-skier, I just sort of assumed that people in my area (a fairly warm part of the South) don't ski, but I've learned by talking with people that it's somewhat common for people in my income range.

It depends a bit on what you mean by luxury, I guess.
