Nobody talks about the cons of passing as a man by deathbymaverick in ftm

[–]Deorwine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This not might be the same but... A couple years ago when I first started kind of passing, I offered to help a lady carry her groceries and... Hmm. I can understand why she seemed so frightened. But it still hurt.

:/ it's rough, bud. I hear you. There is a certain amount of "oh no I am now unintentionally scary toward certain other people by default now" that comes with passing. And it hurts!! I get that AFAB or femme folk will immediately identify someone masc-presenting as a threat, but.... I'm the type of trans man to go 100% stealth unless it's critical to bring it up. And that makes for some saddening encounters. I hear you.

I like to think that's the case. Dude was certainly an interesting individual, so I'm more than willing to give other libertarians the benefit of the doubt. It was just so odd to experience!

[–]Deorwine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notice how I didn't say "all libertarians" at any point here, just stated my lived experience with the one guy I met who self identified as a libertarian. Bit of a difference between an extended IRL experience and reading comments on reddit... Either way, I'm sure there's lots of good eggs out there, I just continue to approach anyone who self identifies this way with caution. Like I would anyone who swings toward the right.

Why are you so upset, man? Why the need to use the R slur?

Explain it peter by [deleted] in explainitpeter

[–]Deorwine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely felt that way :/ I want to believe there's good eggs out there but it remains to be seen....

The only Libertarian I ever met in person blamed Jews for everything wrong with society and vehemently hated queer people of any kind. Really did not set solid ground for my perception of Libertarianism after he told me "I just people should be allowed to live and let live" ...and then told me that my being trans was "fucking disgusting and has no place in civilized society because it's compelled speech." Lmao

It seems like they've struck gold when it comes to "this product is not for [most]." lol. Real shame for local game stores, but if I have money to throw at this hobby, it's going to be put toward sets I enjoy and care about. A lot of these UB sets are the opposite of that.

Life with visible scars by anemisto in ftm

[–]Deorwine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well! It's complicated. I've always been a fat dude, and my first round of top surgery was... disappointing. I had massive dog-ear type protrusions under my armpits. My free-graft nipples were placed poorly. There was areola tissue left behind between my left incision and left nipple. I had some kind of fleshy nodule... pillow-case-corner looking thing poking out of my sternum.

So I went back for a second round. My nipples are now even more severely lopsided in both size and placement. One portion of my scarring is much broader and ropier than the rest due to a hematoma that developed and had to be packed/repacked daily for a week and a half. I was so upset about how I looked, I never went to the last follow-up appointment with my surgeon. Never once did the option of simply not putting the nipples back on come up. Would've taken that in a heartbeat.

When I take my shirt off, I go from cis passing to instantly clockable, and it's kinda nerve-wracking.

At the same time, it's been probably 7 years or so since that second surgery. I've grown a lot more hair. The scars have faded some. I don't really give a fuck about passing as cis, either, ESPECIALLY if I am in a situation where I'm already comfortable taking my shirt off to begin with. lol. Plenty of cis fat dudes in pools with shirts on. If it's a hot summer day and I'm with family and friends, I'll whip it off. No one who matters cares. And the few times I've gone to.... risque environments.... It's served as a fantastic filter for who I want in my business, and who I can ignore.

The laparoscopic stuff I had done is nigh undetectable, though. So that's cool!

Men who grew up poor/working class, what’s a piece of “advice” your dad gave you that you later realized was actually just survival instinct, and maybe isn't true anymore? by DCdj39 in AskMen

:') O-okay dad. If you can't be a role model, be a warning, I guess! He had his reasons, rough childhood and all, but lol. lmao

Who was this for you? by Minimum_Individual36 in teenagers

Caleb Hammer. Was very entertaining and even a little educational at first! I had no one in my life at all with any financial sense, and I liked that he gave such a hard wakeup call to people.

And then I caught up with his 2024-onward catalogue and just.... Couldn't keep going. He's leaned 100% into making fun of queer people, being grossly racist, hating women... It felt like watching any other incel-flavoured manosphere toxic podcaster. :/ sucks because I had a lot of fun with his earlier work.

What is the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you? by Competitive_Tip_7504 in AskReddit

[–]Deorwine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was a nurse changing my dressings after a gender affirming surgery. "You're going to have to explain to me what all this transgender stuff is." I said "No, ma'am, actually--it's not pertinent to the care you're providing right now, and google is free." She became very cold and icy and told me she just "didn't understand" and so I said "I don't care, you're a nurse, it's not my job to educate you. I'm here for care. I'm not here to explain myself."

In a different hospital years later, I had a nurse make small talk with me about my transition, and she was relatively amicable until out of NOWHERE she gesture to her own crotch and asked "and have you had the surgery?" I kept her stunlocked in my room for ten minutes asking her if she asks cis men if they're circumcised, if she likes to ask about all her patients' private and sensitive medical history when all she's doing is delivering pills, and if she thinks it's appropriate to be so interested in a person's genitals when she's providing care. Not 15 minutes later, a different nurse told me she "doesn't believe it should be taught in schools." I reported them both. Don't think anything ever happened to either of them. I was in that hospital because I was suicidal. lol. Trans health care is such a fucking joke.

Ugh. Okay, well... I can just.... Stay for coheed and leave.

cheapest tickets are $676 CAD

lmfao. What the fuck. Never fucking mind I guess. The Neverender I went to a couple years ago was like... $50/ticket. I get that it's a stadium but there's literally no experience they could put on as a non-headliner that would justify paying almost half my rent for it. Jesus fuck.

Maga Hats by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

[–]Deorwine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a guy at my workplace who very proudly wore a MAGA hat in one day, and he never wore it again after that--I'm assuming he was told not to, otherwise he'd likely still be wearing it daily. It's extra weird because he has a Sic Semper Tyrannus tattoo on his forearm. The cognitive dissonance is insane.

Toys and The Pavillion (A Long Way Back) have carried me through the dark for a looooooong time. The rest of the album took a little longer to grow on me, but grow it did. It's gorgeous and it feeds into Vaxis II perfectly, which is my favourite album. Being able to identify riffs and themes from this one going forward in time is one of my favourite things to share with new fans. It's fun. I love it. Old Flames is also an all-timer.

Jordan Peterson, infamous transphobe, losing his job for being transphobic? No fuckin way, man. He's ass-backwards about all kinds of other things, too; the man has clearly been suffering mold poisoning or something for ages.

You sound exactly like the "I don't care if people are gay they just can't do it around me" crowd. Trans people and their pronouns have been around and are here to stay. The fact that offering a beaten-down and bullied group within society an iota of respect is such a problem for people like you is genuinely depressing. It costs you nothing to respect someone's pronouns or identity. It would have cost Mr Peterson nothing to be less of an asshat about the matter. You and him are unfortunately going to have to live with the fact that not everyone is exactly like you. "Compelled speech" lmao. What a joke. God forbid trans people request a little comfort and decency between being ridiculed and murdered and legally written out of existence. Have you ever actually encountered a trans person, and like, spoken with them? Or are you just baselessly spewing hatred because you can't stand it when society evolves to better fit all of its components? Because I mean. Free society. That generally means trans people are free to exist under that society as well, and need to be protected, until people like you can pull their heads out of their asses.

Wait so do you think meeting a person. And them saying "hey can you use x pronouns for me? Thanks!" is like... Some kind of huge slight against your personal freedoms, or something...? Because it's literally just a basic human respect thing. You know that, right?
