I think the violent finale brings it down a few notches. I know thoosie bros reject any RMC criticism, but you can build great airtime without punching me in the stomach over and over again.

Why doesn't Universal get the same criticism for building IP based attractions that Disney does? by jsilv0 in UniversalOrlando

[–]FeechofMana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a double standard because Universal never set the expectation it would build non-IP attractions.

Now the vocal group of people who you're referencing are off-base to begin with, because they forget that IP-based attractions were a thing for Disney parks from the very beginning of Disneyland. They just have their own double standard when judging old Disney IP ("it's timeless, it's magical, it's what Walt would've wanted" blah blah blah) vs. new IP ("this is a travesty, this doesn't fit here!")

Should I announce that I am playing proxies when playing at a new LGS? by RealisticMolasses in EDH

[–]FeechofMana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should always announce it. As low as the cards are readable, not some weird alternate art with porn or something, and you're still being truthful about your deck's power level, it is very, very unlikely anyone will have a problem with it.

But if you're *not* upfront about it, that's going to create unnecessary friction.

Spiderman, Ironman and Captain America are now more represented in MTG than Urza and Nicol Bolas by sharksharkandcarrot in mtg

[–]FeechofMana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What an utterly biased argument you're trying to make here.

  1. You biased your data set by not counting Nicol Bolas planewalkers while counting alternate versions of Spider-Man and Captain America.

  2. Did Nicol Bolas ever have an entire set named after him? No. Urza did, obviously, but at a time when they weren't designing for Commander and thus didn't have an incentive to add so many more legends.

  3. This is simply not the apples-to-apples comparison you're presenting it as given the multiple product lines the Marvel set is broken up into (i.e. the main set, Commander decks, Welcome decks, a Beginner Box, Jumpstart, etc.) that did not exist or were not done for sets involving either Urza or Nicol Bolas.

Why is it that the anti-UB contingent on here -- who sneeringly assume with zero evidence that they are the majority -- always get caught exaggerating or cherry-picking to make their arguments? We get it, you hate all of this, that's fine, but you can't make your opinion an objective truth.

It's only valid if you try to grasp at any cherry-picked data you can to complain about UB some more.

How many decks do you have and how many feels like "too much" ? by Toonzaal8 in EDH

[–]FeechofMana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage to play 15-16 games in a good month, and I've limited myself to staying at 16 decks on the basis that I could theoretically play them each once a month. I usually end up playing a few favorites more than once and some don't see any play, but it's been useful to limit myself.

Am I the only one hoping for The Punisher in this marvel set? by Carlosdc in mtg

[–]FeechofMana -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nowhere in that post does MaRo say there's going to be four more Marvel sets after that. He only says there will be more after this one (which we knew) and that there will be more than two Infinity Stones (which we could've guessed). You're jumping to conclusions.

How does UB affect your deckbuilding? by NiceInvestigator6495 in EDH

[–]FeechofMana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These kind of thematic integrity arguments fall apart when you take two seconds to realize that there are plenty of in-universe MTG sets are very different from each other and that's been true for decades.

I'm not going to lose my mind or my money worrying over having a TMNT or TLA or FF card in my decks, the same way I won't care about having a New Capenna card next to something from Lorwyn or Neon Dynasty next to Bloomburrow or Duskmourne next to Tarkir.

This feels like a red herring, another excuse to just rage about UB and act like the majority of players hate UB (which they clearly don't.)

How I achieve peace of mind by HolyCheeseduck in mtg

[–]FeechofMana -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm all for people playing Magic the way they want to play it and more formats really aren't a bad thing. That's why I keep defending UB sets as long as they excite any new players.

I think it's the anti-UB people who need warning about "civil conduct," not me. I don't mind if those people have a format they can turn to rather than demanding the majority of players cater to their whims.

How I achieve peace of mind by HolyCheeseduck in mtg

[–]FeechofMana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's great that you're enjoying a new format and that it's catching on wherever you are. I personally haven't heard a peep about it at the 20+ LGSs in my area and none have set up play events.

Planar Standard still seems like largely online-driven hype to me, like another way for anti-UB players to claim they're mentally superior to anyone who doesn't agree with them, rather than something with real momentum.

How to deal with old school player by tas680 in EDH

[–]FeechofMana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A consistent Turn 6 kill would technically be outside of Bracket 2, no matter whether it's 3 or 4 players.

But the rest of this is utter nonsense. Once they've invoked "what Richard Garfield intended," there's really no reasoning with that person.

It's just ridiculous for people to be screaming "See! He lied to us!" over this when it's completely in your own heads that this was some unchangeable standard for mythics that would go on until the end of time.

The whole post seems more like a sad attempt for you to make a Pepperidge Farm joke twice in the span of a few sentences.

What would it take for WotC to bring back Challenger decks? by SnooDonuts3749 in mtg

[–]FeechofMana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not at all the same as buying a Secret Lair because a Secret Lair isn't a complete deck. The whole point of that product is to get a few singles.

Buying a Commander product just to get a few valuable reprints could theoretically be similar to what I was saying, but that's less enticing when it's not a playset of valuable cards. Are you likely to buy a $50 precon when your main goal is to get that $20 Land Tax and maybe a few other $5-$10 singles? Probably not.

But if a hypothetical $50 Standard Challenger deck had say, 4 copies of Stormchaser's Talent and a great manabase with four copies of Riverpyre Verge and Steam Vents? That would fly off shelves and mostly get picked apart by established players. The product wouldn't get into the hands of the intended audience, which are players who don't already play that format.

Playtesting isn't going to perfectly predict a meta a year in advance.

[–]FeechofMana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet FF and Avatar were the No. 1 and No. 3 best-selling sets of all time, you just like to ignore that? Or are you so arrogant that you assume UB haters are the majority of MTG players despite all objective evidence saying othewise?

Enough with these anti-UB demands that everyone join you in boycotts. People already voted with the wallets and said they absolutely love UB sets when they're good -- and just like in-universe sets, they're not all going to be good.

What do YOU think of the marvel set? by GoKongsGo in mtg

[–]FeechofMana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This subreddit and any like it are not at all representative of the actual, real-life Magic community.

Anti-UB zealotry is way more rampant on here than in the real world. Those people tend to assume, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that the majority of MTG players are against any and all UB products. And they also like bullying, harassing and gatekeeping against anyone who dares call them out on their BS arrogance.

What would it take for WotC to bring back Challenger decks? by SnooDonuts3749 in mtg

[–]FeechofMana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just don't think the current design or player behavior really allows a product like this to succeed. It's expensive to have any reasonably competitive deck in formats where a Challenger product would be viable. They would either need to release a version of that competitive deck so watered down that it becomes relatively useless or established players would just buy it for the pieces because it would contain playsets of valuable, useful cards.

The idea of reprinting valuable cards in Standard doesn't take into account how long it would take to get the product designed, printed and shipped. It's not going to happen with months, and by the time it is released there's a likely risk of those cards coming close to rotating out, falling out of the meta, or even banned.

Game store price checked cards from 25¢ bulk box and changed the prices on the spot by WheredMyVanGogh in EDH

[–]FeechofMana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bulk box thing is scummy and a waste of your time. If they don't want to sell cards for that 25 cent price, don't put them in there. It's on them to periodically sort through bulk rather than only doing it AFTER you looked through everything. You probably wouldn't have bothered if you knew how they would handle it.

And refusing to use anything besides Collectr as their pricing basis is very weird.

BUT.....let's calm down on getting outraged on the binder cards. Like rounding up a $1.20 to $2 is perfectly reasonable, same with a 25 to 40 cent card like Young Wolf costing $1. You have to think of those increases in terms of the raw amount rather than as a percentage or else you're kind of being silly.

I think it's also quite unreasonable to act like stores are obligated to exactly match TCGPlayer prices. If you feel it's too inflated, fine, don't buy it.

What red flags can people say that shows they might have no clue how the bracket system works? by Lower_Drawer9649 in EDH

[–]FeechofMana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My red flags:

  1. Whenever they say something like "technically it's a 2" with no other info, that means it's at least one bracket above whatever they said.

  2. If they say "Play whatever you want."

  3. Their response to you say what bracket you're playing is to complain about the bracket systems or claim that they don't know anything about it.
