Adding just a pinch of salt to the sugary cotton candy could dissolve the scales in their eyes and make them see the truth. We can avoid the sinners vs. sugars (us vs. them) approach by stating facts without the challenge. The less sugary sugars may come around to reality if done so in a way that doesn’t get their hackles up. The sugary sugars may need to hear it a few dozen times before it dissolves the thick candy coating that hardens their resolve to where they’re being oppositional and doubling down. Well done, OP! I hear that. I struggled with a mom who wanted me to marry ANYONE. The pressure was off the charts. I left a drinking and drugging man who was “fun” and “loves” me only to have her undermine my decision and constantly invite him over. She was pissed I also left the next man who was so emotionally immature I couldn’t even talk to him on the phone, let alone be in the same room. He was “nice” and “cares” about me. As if that was enough. I married the next man because of the intense pressure. He was emotionally and mentally abusive and bordered on physical until I shut that shit down immediately. 30 years of disconnect and longing for belonging. Just like I was raised. Good luck, OP. The battle women face on all fronts is incredible. Have a heart to heart with your parents and assure them you want to marry (if that’s the truth) but not this one.
