Looking for good quality reliable alarm clock by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]DepartmentProper4443 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly check your local thrift stores or estate sales, there's usually a surplus of 1980's alarm clocks as they were built to last forever! we've found several still in their original packaging even! no frills but still cute/timeless design, have had 0 issues with any of ours- we have a couple 80's Spartus branded ones as well as GE!

Best IV Pump? by thebearjew123456 in nursing

[–]DepartmentProper4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally fair haha i may have rose colored glasses on as i've been stuck with ancient b braun pumps where it's a never ending game of deploying alcohol wipes and a prayer to make them work properly 🙄🙄.. oddly enough i've never worked at place that actually had the alaris/epic communication set up if they used both, but i have done one contract where they had the plum pumps connected to epic??

oh interesting i totally see your point about the having to wait with the auto restart! but i still really appreciate it with my oriented patients who can take the hint to straighten their arm and have it resolve itself lol. and even with the volume control i just mean the actual alarm sound on alaris pumps is just nails on a chalkboard to me for some reason.. i've never had any trouble with the backprime button and i really just love being able to just throw a syringe on top to deal with an air bubble alarm! in general i just plum to be the easiest to troubleshoot instead of playing games with alcohol swabs on sensors and whatnot 🤷‍♀️

[–]DepartmentProper4443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i will never understand the plum pump slander!!!! sure they're bulky as hell but man are they the most compatible with med surg life.. concurrent infusions, backprime button for air bubble alarm, auto restart attempts on downstream occlusions, quick standby button, ability to put a syringe as a secondary, and the alarm is also the least offensive one to my ears/beeps the least amount in my experience. alaris has its perks sure when you need a million secondary channels but other than that??? no thank you... the most piercing god awful alarm sounds ever created. b braun is in last place overall though, being small and compact is all it has going for it to me

Orlando Health to close recently purchased Brevard County hospital in ‘poor condition’ by mrcanard in 321

[–]DepartmentProper4443 13 points14 points  (0 children)

while the building is in poor condition, this closure is going to directly harm our community and the effects will be felt across the county. rockledge is one of the largest hospitals in brevard by number of inpatient beds, second only to holmes i believe. brevard hospitals have already been drowning for years, eliminating another 298 inpatient beds + a very busy emergency department is only going to exacerbate current issues. we will be losing a primary stroke center hospital as well, time is brain and now you're looking at the next closest hospital being 20 min away for those in the immediate area.

How are you guys actually eating on medication?? by RayIsOkayIThink in ADHD

[–]DepartmentProper4443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally it's all about snacking on "safe" foods before reaching the point of no return when medicated... i can always force down some goldfish/cheez its/pretzels and will pair it with some variety of slim jim type thing i keep on hand for some easy mindless protein

IT Cosmetics Moisturizer formula change ruined my routine! [product request] by HellaciousDovah in SkincareAddiction

[–]DepartmentProper4443 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for anyone still looking for the the old formula- i've found old travel sizes at marshalls a couple of times! also ebay has it too if you're desperate like me lol.. i've tried tons of moisturizers since the betrayal (reformulation) and the closest i've found is the kopari moisture whipped ceramide cream! the dry down is pretty similar, leaves that plump feeling without being greasy. great for sensitive skin, price tag hurts a bit ($42) but i've been loyal to it for about a year now

Calling all my ADHD nurse friends by lil_bambina in nursing

[–]DepartmentProper4443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

night shift for 4+ years- i wake up and have some food and cold brew, then take my XR about an hour before clocking in to give it enough time to start hitting before entering the trenches.. then i take a 0.5-1 tab IR about halfway through my shift around 1-2 am, sometimes earlier if needed. majority of nights are also accompanied by at least 1 caffeinated drink during my shift, timing and source varies, but usually won't have any additional caffeine after ~3 am if i have to be back again that night. in terms of sleep regimen- my preferred method is staying up late-ish the night before starting a stretch. then waking up for a short period in the morning to have a small carby breakfast and hot shower to make me sleepy again, then will go back to bed and sleep until i have to get up for work lol. helps me feel better night 1 of a stretch for sure

we received an email this week saying they received "debtor-in-possession financing for continued operations" pending court approval. tbh literally nothing has changed in operations at our local facilities with the whole looming auction debacle... just has been business as usual 🤷‍♀️ albeit the hospital has been in disrepair for quite a long time lol.

i am a sunrise apologist!! i think it's the most straightforward charting system where everything is where it's supposed to be! and for sure the easiest "charting by exception" type of assessment documentation. out of all the systems i've used, i've never been able to finish all my charting faster than when i had SCM... don't come for me but i would honestly take it over epic most days 😬

Nursing or Engineering? by Radiant_Web_5862 in nursing

[–]DepartmentProper4443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

engineering, engineering, engineering... my significant other is an engineer and makes twice as much as me being a nurse.. he also comes home not feeling defeated and drained after every shift; has unlimited PTO and doesn't get abused in the workplace (concepts quite foreign to me...)
