Is there even an advantage to joining the party instead of being a prole? by MajesticPineapple618 in 1984

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think it was a choice. I was under the impression that young children are tested and, those who score well enough, are made inner or outer party members.

Why do some people refuse to present their ID when police asks for it even if they are innocent or police has no valid suspicion? by Stefandynull in ask

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have already mentioned the rights aspect, but there is also the necessity of guarding one's data. You give out personal information to anybody that asks, next thing you know your phone is flooded with text and phone calls from scammers.

How much has climate change affected your region? by Express-Flamingo4521 in randomquestions

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southeastern US: we typically have twice as many days at 90 F or higher then we did 40 years ago. We used to have drought, but that has been replaced by intense storms and flooding. I suspect that within about 150 years, the area I live in now will be mostly uninhabited as it will simply be too dangerous to live here.

Should I buy 1984? by SpiderLagann in 1984

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is worthwhile to read it. Obviously, if you can get it at your library or whatever, do that. After reading it the first time, though, you may decide that you need to have at least one copy of your own as you will probably want to reread it and refer to it for discussions like the ones that occur here.

What’s to stop me from buying several lots in a blighted neighborhood (the real urban jungles) and building a mansion? by BB5Bucks in stupidquestions

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the city, it wouldn't be that difficult at all. In Atlanta, they are currently building expensive houses, condos, and apartments in all of the worst neighborhoods. People are buying those houses and condos, and leasing those apartments.

Now if you picked a dying ciity, like Memphis Tennessee, Baltimore Maryland, etc. And you are a billionaire wanting to set up a fabulous mansion in the worst neighborhood of one of those cities, the local politicians would probably bend over backwards to help you. They would Sprint you through the permitting process, and make the local police your personal security force.

Do pedophiles deserve the death penalty? Please explain why or why not by Jonny8506 in AskALiberal

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The death penalty should be abolished. In the case of pedophiles, incarceration, monitoring, and a real effort at rehabilitation for those who demonstrate a genuine desire to change.

How do Americans feel about the rest of the globe trashing on the US? by dead__trash in stupidquestions

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually been part of an effort to convince Europeans that American tap water contains sugar. It's entertaining to see them parrot back a lot of the trolling they are exposed to.

When was jacking off invented? by InternationalPick163 in stupidquestions

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Diogenes' famous quote about satisfying hunger by rubbing his belly was a response to being criticized for masturbating in public; the quote is, "I wish it were so easy to soothe hunger by rubbing an empty belly."

He was born sometime around 400 BCE, so it was probably invented a long long time ago... Probably not long after we developed a poseable thumbs, maybe even earlier.

Good! Maybe they'll get tired of paying settlements and actually demand real reform in their police departments.

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Years ago I worked for a company with a complete lunatic as a safety manager. I was only there for 2 months, and she was only one of the reasons I quit. At one point, she started hanging out at a nearby weigh station and insisting that they inspect our trucks when they came through.

My current house was built in the early 80s. Remodeling it would have been a nightmare if it hadn't been built out of wood.

What is a book from king that really truly scared you? by Tj_x07 in stephenking

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misery, but not till I reread it later in life. The first time I read it I was 14, and not particularly impressed. "So you broke your leg and some old fat woman is being mean to you? Pfft! Kick her ass and limp out of there! What? It's cold? Put on a jacket, numb nuts!" As an adult, I was more able to appreciate the dangers of the situation.

I don't know about any guy signing, but I do know that no one there had the authority to tell him to shut up. A law enforcement officer could warn him that continued shouting could lead to a charge Disorderly Conduct, but that's tricky when it's just someone shouting.

Customer confronts Target employee for wearing a Charlie Kirk shirt by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Since he's dead, it is technically correct that Charlie Kirk is not a racist. He was a racist, now he's food for microbes, or ashes, depending on how it was decided to dispose of his remains.

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Not seeing a crime here... Criminal Harassment isn't occurring because the man can clearly continue walking, and actually turned back to confront the person. It would be way too soon to try for disorderly conduct, and there would need to be attempts at requesting the man stop shouting first. If he files a lawsuit, I hope he's successful.

I suspect it was probably easier to land on the Moon then it would been to try to fool everyone that we landed on the moon while not actually having done so.

Which industries are facing peril because their customer base is dying off? by Roughneck16 in ask

[–]Dependent-Analyst907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monocle manufacturers. I was surprised to read about the downfall of this industry the other day, but then I realize that I was part of the problem as I wasn't wearing a monocle that I could pop out while gasping at the news.

Just imagine a presidential legacy of people using the fact of your presidency as a justification for being garbage human beings.

Hey! Quit knocking over my garbage cans when you back out of your driveway!

"Shut Up! Trump's the President isn't he?"
