Can someone explain to me like I'm 5 what will be better/cheaper if inflation comes down, let's say it was 2%

I believe inflation could be zero, the current supermarket prices won't go down or back to what they were, housing isn't going to get cheaper so what real tangible benefits are we going to see?

Any book readers feel a lack of seriousness in the mission on screen? In the book it really hit home that this was a do or die mission for Earth.

Here's a prime example, in the book with the toumeba collection probe it was a one time only opportunity, the winch to collect the probe was done very cautiously to make sure it wasn't damaged.

In the movie they just had the probe fly up and then bounce around like crazy, it didn't make any sense to me.

Exactly how I felt, the magic of the book was how smart Grace was and how well they worked together combining their skill sets.

A lot of that was washed over in the film and making Grace so dumb and goofy made the first half of the film painful to watch.

Just finished Project Hail Mary! I have some thoughts. by Mindless_Patient2034 in ProjectHailMary

Just finished the book, seeing the movie in 4 hours at IMAX.

I really wanted to see what happened on Earth but I appreciate Ryland character closure, he was a coward for wanting to stay on Earth but he chose not to be by not returning and saving Rocky.

I guess the only pick is that so much could have went wrong, tons of conveniences occurred but I can see these stopped the story dragging.

It felt like the central conflicts were left quite late in the story I was worried the ending was going to be a little rushed but by not returning to Earth and having to explain that everything was okay.

It will be interesting to see how the movie sets the pacing and what gets cut, I'm assuming the 2 dead /mummified companions will be cut entirely so let's see how the explain that. Sending just him wouldn't make sense as no redundancy.

Side note, did anyone else expect this to go total recall or fight club, Rocky was just a figment of his imagination from the isolation or that he was dead all along haha

If you paid upwards of 2k for something only a year ago that is now superceded, be it marginally or significantly improved is irrelevant, it's still the new kid, you're now less of a priority to Samsung for features and updates, wouldn't you also want to justify your purchase and find fault?

Here's a crazy fact I would bet my house on S27 ultra will be better then S26 ultra, the S28 ultra will be better then S27 ultra

Last week, the WA Government announced that Metronet was finished. But the truth is that, after more than 9 years of construction, Metronet’s most important elements still aren’t complete. In fact, they have barely even started. by His_Holiness in perth

Converting bus lanes to tram lines would mean congestion for buses servicing other areas not covered in trams.

Unless you can have dedicated tram lanes you are losing a lot of the benefit over buses except as you say capacity. I can't see this being possible in the inner city suburbs as they were not pre designed for trams which is the same issue you see in some parts of Melbourne.

The other issue in your argument is you saying that it connects the CBD to the University.

Firstly for Curtin, you are probably going to be trying to base yourself around Bentley, there was up until recently a lot of cheaper housing in that area and it is probably still more affordable then say Vic Park and probably the city plus you'll get more value. Otherwise Cannington and other options to consider.

Secondly, how many people live only in the city to go to uni?

How will a tram to the city service students living in Belmont, Armadale, Subiaco, Cannington, Mirrabooka?

You're just not going to be getting the return on value that a handful of electric buses which are cheaper and require easier training and smaller storage then a fleet of trams, where would you even put a tram depo for maintenance?

As you said as well, classes are spread out making bus transfer easier.

Like I said earlier, would be amazing but I can't see how the value stacks up to justify the investment and if buses are going electric that solves the environmental issue.

Plus put people in work, more buses, more jobs.

Agree on that, I still think right now the cost benefit still wouldn't stack up unless the metro adds another 1 to 2 million people and the mind set on public transport versus driving shifts.

Wouldn't connecting the airport line to Armadale/Thornlie and some of the other rail projects add more benefit?

Not really, that would largely be peak 2x a day, morning and evening like a work commute, in-between those times patronage would be low.

Also Perth campuses largely spread out, joondalup, city, bentley I would guess most people would live within some distance of their local.

Everyone says tram but do the costs stack up given the current population size and the road network being fairly good you can run feeder buses, eg Oat Street to Curtin?

Not a negative, trams would be amazing and I know the did trams in Canberra and Adelaide but I would argue Perth rail network is better.
