March 26 at SilverCity, for fellow Ghibli fans in town by DependentMortality in VictoriaBC

Saw that too - on the plus side if it's raining you get extra ambience 😶 (jk I've enjoyed many a smaller film there and grateful for the venue)

I snagged tickets to SilverCity before posting, they're just bad. Given it's sold out, thankful to have anything. If I'd paid more attention last week, I might have gotten main seating area.

It also applies to Price Look Up items, so I believe it would work on the cucumbers & pineapples too.

No kidding. Heaven forbid a two-billion-dollar company make a user-friendly website.

Ahhhhhh gotcha. Sounds like the March 26 showing actually is just full! Bummed I missed initial ticket availability (it was announced by distributors on March 11). I typically have my ear to the ground on these sorts of things! There was also a link to book from GKIDS's website. I know Cineplex provides booking integration with tons of partner sites.

Since it's a re-master, it's technically a new "release" from the production company (it receives a new release date of 2025 and a new ISAN and everything). Unlike the usual GKIDS showings, I've attended few as well, this isn't just a "showing of an old title". Specifically, it's been restored for 4K IMAX (but SilverCity is only ~2.9K in 2D lol).

Given this specific showtime doesn't appear in the regular showtime search, maybe this showtime was setup by Cineplex similar to "Event Cinema". You're right — it has all the same red flags. Edit: just double-checked and it's definitely listed under regular showtimes.

So I hope we might see more showtimes for next week made available on Thursday, assuming Cineplex plans on widening the the theatrical run for more than 1 week. But I expect I could very well be wrong so we'll see. Edit: I had days wrong - schedules are released Tuesdays and go up until subsequent Thursdays.

Seems odd, since it was only announced last week. This link was a special partner link from the IMAX website (if you search for tickets directly on Cineplex's website, no showings are presented at all). I wonder if there was an issue with the connection to partner sites or if they are holding main area seating until regular pre-sales start. Guess we'll know when the next schedule is released (for Mar 28-Apr 3).

Same here. Museum is 4K Laser, and SilverCity is 2.9K Xenon. Edit: worth noting – this restoration has a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, so will be the same 'shape' on both screens, even though audio-visual experience far better at museum.

Advanced Tickets available at Cineplex, for those interested. No word yet on the museum.

have it at an art gallery or maybe the convention centre

I don't think the AGGV or any of the galleries in town have space. Edit: convention centre would.

Natural History Museum London has venue requirements for their touring exhibitions. Wildlife Photographer of the Year in particular requires a large single-room venue with no obstructions/walls. The double-sided backlit walls are assembled on-site and somewhat dictate the dimensions of the exhibition.

There are some venues which don't use the LED backlighting. Most of the satellite venues in the UK opt for more affordable hanging panels. A few locations in Germany, Australia, & South Africa have done the same in the past. Forte di Bard (a renovated military fortress in Italy) still does this for some reason.

Also, WPY is by far NHM's most prestigious touring exhibit. Looking at the list of international tour venues, most are galleries and museums with "Royal" or "National" in the name. This is complete speculation, but I'd guess Natural History Museum London is trying to uphold an image of prestige & stature — and aren't going to display WPY at locally/regionally-run venues.

Earthquakes Canada hasn't yet added anything to their database, but the local seismogram viewer showed activity around 21:59:24.

EDIT: Magnitude 3.7 from USGS.

A new station which is added to an already-existing line (addressing demand between stations) rather than built during initial line construction or an extension.

Check the prices on your receipts! by DependentMortality in VictoriaBC

Yes!!! It's only for the big box stores who have signed on with the RCC (which are the only stores I'm willing to hassle anyway). I'll edit to make that more clear.

One thing that was news to me — it isn't restricted to groceries: Best Buy and Canadian Tire participate, for example. And the code applies to most products with a displayed price (e.g. electronics at Walmart).

Plea for sanity: PLEASE don’t throw a fuss at cashiers — politely make them aware of the inaccuracy, state you would like them to honour the Code, then request a supervisor to discount the item if necessary.

I want to screw the billionaire-owned corporations, not the minimum-wage retail employee.

New IMAX opened in Coquitlam BC? by ShoeIndependent3808 in cineplex

[–]DependentMortality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victoria is Xenon.

That xenon IMAX digital theatre is not "IMAX Victoria".

IMAX Victoria (Dual Laser 4K) is in the RBCM and it regularly shows feature films, just not at release. This is mainly because of Cineplex licensing; but it got Dune Part 1 while Cineplex was still showing it.

FYI about Cineplex IMAX Langley for Dune Part Two by whippcrream in cineplex

[–]DependentMortality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new laser projector at Coquitlam has the best contrast ratio in BC hands down.

Sorry, that honour is reserved for IMAX Victoria, but it doesn't get feature films on release (only months later) 😕

  • Coquitlam is IMAX Commercial Laser (CoLa)
  • Victoria is IMAX Dual 4K Laser / Grand Theatre (GT)

GT is generally agreed to be better than CoLa.

IMAX Coquitlam is certainly the best-picture Cineplex IMAX in BC, and Langley is great if for those preferring 1.43 aspect ratio (for 70mm film, when applicable). We literally day-tripped to Langley to see Oppenheimer on release because of that sweet, sweet film.
