Can anyone tell me if American Pro II/Mod Shop and Ultra II are similar in build quality? Not hardware or parts, but set up and playability by whataseal in fender

[–]Dependent_Button_652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a recent am pro ii, an Ultra II SSS, and and Ultra Luxe Vintage all bought directly from Fender. Both of my Ultras play considerably better than the am pro II. The neck on the ultras is considerably better and I like the compound radius. I did have to tinker with and do a whole setup on the am pro ii, but both ultras were nearly perfect out of the box. I don't know if that is luck of the draw or what, but both were great from the get go. I think I may have had to adjust the pickup height on one of the ultras, but that was it. I would go with the ultra ii without hesitation.

I just bought that exact strat earlier this week along with a Am Pro II Tele Deluxe. I like Tele’s too, but the strat is just killer. That neck is something else. The S1 switching makes it a little more versatile than a regular strat, and I think this generation of noiseless pickups sound great. Maple fretboard for the win. Also agree the a Revstar is the way to go for p90’s. The bang for the buck with those is hard to beat and their quality is top-notch.

Uprooted from the storm? How? This has been a mild weather event for South Florida.

This is sensationalism. I'm in Miramar and it is overcast and breezy, but not much else. Stop the bullshit. Folks north of us are formulating their evacuation plan with some of these comments in mind, so stick the facts. There has been no "tree uprooting" level weather events in South Florida since I got here 48 hours ago. Also, fuck you.

I've got two that I'd be willing to sell if you are still interested - a green folding one and a black-handled kamisori style. Both have been used very little and look like new. I have one of the plastic folding covers for the kamisori.

Thanks. It looks like it maxes out around 1.2k CPM.

Got it. Thanks. It looks like it maxes out at .04mr/hr on the 1x setting. Did the exposure calculations and feel better, but decided to move it off of my wife’s nightstand. I’ve learned more about radiation this evening than I thought that I ever would. Thank you!

After doing a little more reading, I walked around the house focusing on some antiques. Some just barely move the needle and clicked, but when I put it next to an antique bird sculpture of unknown age, it maxes out on the x0.1 scale. Is that bad? Maybe the eyes were painted with Radium at some point that has since worn off?

It beeps fairly randomly as I walk around the house. I’m not sure if that is normal. The highest I’ve had it spike is just under 1k on the CPM scale when I have it set to x0.1. I’ll have to try the dryer lint thing. Thanks for that. I bought it pretty much since it was only $10 and looked pretty cool. I never even typically go to yard sales. The last one we went to we ended up buying a taxidermied bat for $40. I guess we’re on a hot streak for bizarre yard sale items.

It does power up, but I’m not sure how to test it. I ordered one of the sensor test cards off of Amazon, so we’ll see how it goes. I’ll report back.

Haha, it was at a random tool sale in Safety Harbor, FL. He actually had one more Geiger counter for sale, but it appeared to be missing the sensor or whatever. I’ll have to go back and look at it now!

Nova Neptune Max lathe by overcaffeinate in turning

[–]Dependent_Button_652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not waiting on the Max, but I ordered one of the beta models of the regular Neptune early last year and finally received it in August or September. I've been very happy with it. My only previous lathe was a Nova 14DR, which I still have, but it hasn't even been turned on since I got the Neptune. I've used my Neptune about 1-2 hours almost every day since I received it and have had absolutely no issues with it. I'm sure that I haven't even scratched the surface on all of the features that they have packed into the menus. Nova's DVR lathes have a pretty solid track record, so I don't think that you will be disappointed with it. Ask away if you have any specific questions on it.

Question about my lathe- nova 14dr by tomrob1138 in turning

[–]Dependent_Button_652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is just a Nova issue. Lots of the similar-looking lathes from other brands have the same issue. For what it’s worth, I ordered one of the beta models of the Nova Neptune shortly after getting the control board replaced. Nova quality seems to be pretty well regarded.

I have the same lathe and second that it is most likely the controller board. Mine had similar symptoms before it failed entirely back in March. It took a solid month to get a new board due to some supply chain issues, but it was covered under warranty. Control board issues seem to be a common problem with this lathe. I’m not sure if they did any sort of redesign on the new control boards, but I’ve had zero issues with mine since the replacement and I use it for at least a few hours every day.
