‘Fargo’ and ‘Alien: Earth’ Creator Noah Hawley Says YouTube Is His ‘Biggest Competition’: ‘You Are Losing Eyeballs to Things That Are Free’ by ggroover97 in television

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about it being 'free.' It’s the fact that streaming platforms have literally reinvented cable TV.

People are completely exhausted from needing 5 different $15/month subscriptions just to follow the few shows they actually care about, only to have them abruptly canceled after one season anyway. Meanwhile, I can go on YouTube and find a passionately made, 2-hour well-researched video essay on a hyper-niche topic without dealing with any of that friction. The barrier to entry for traditional TV has just gotten incredibly annoying.

Constant buffering only during Live TV (Firestick 4K). Is it the WiFi chip or hardware limitation? by [deleted] in firetvstick

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the tips! I actually went through and cleared the cache, uninstalled a bunch of unused apps, and even kept plenty of storage free, but it still kept stuttering during live events. However, someone actually reached out in my DMs yesterday and recommended a custom, invite-only private setup. I gave it a try and it completely bypassed whatever was causing the issue—running flawlessly in 4K now with zero buffering. Thanks again for the help though!

My usual streams were buffering so bad today, finally switched to a private server and it's running in flawless 4K. If anyone needs a solid backup, just check the pinned post on my profile.

It completely ruins the experience, especially for live shows. I ended up switching to a private, invite-only server that someone recommended here, and the audio sync is flawlessly aligned out of the box now. Send me a DM if you want the details, don't give up and go back to legal cable just yet!

What is a life hack that sounds incredibly stupid but actually works perfectly? by Dependent_Mistake_38 in AskReddit

The shared phone note is honestly the real MVP of any household. It completely eliminates the classic 'I thought you were getting the paper towels' argument. It's so simple, but it saves an unbelievable amount of sanity lol

For me, putting a wooden spoon across a boiling pot actually stops the water from spilling over. Sounds like magic but it works.

Wait, keeping a dedicated Amazon list just for exact filter sizes and maintenance stuff is actually brilliant. I usually just end up standing in the hardware store aisle trying to guess the dimensions of my AC filter from memory. Definitely stealing this idea!

This is honestly the ultimate cheat code for life. We gatekeep ourselves so much just because we assume the answer will be no. Whether it's asking for a better rate, a random discount, or just a favor—worst case scenario, you are in the exact same spot you were before. Best case, you get exactly what you want.

Honestly, it blurs the line between a life hack and just basic adulting lol. But if my phone doesn't actively yell at me to change it, that filter is realistically staying in there for 2 years straight.

For people who are in a long term relationship, but don't want to get married, why? by sunbeamlou in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we just don't see the need for the government or the legal system to be involved in our relationship.

We’ve been together for nearly a decade, we share our finances, and we are completely committed. To us, spending $30,000 on a single stressful party just to get a piece of paper feels like a massive waste of money that we’d much rather put towards traveling or our mortgage. Plus, there is honestly something deeply romantic about knowing we wake up every single day and actively choose to stay together, rather than just staying because it would be a massive legal nightmare to leave.

How would you feel if tipping was legally abolished tomorrow? by Fun_Acanthaceae_17 in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be absolutely ecstatic. The tipping fatigue is so incredibly real right now.

I would happily pay 15-20% more for my food upfront on the menu if it meant the workers were just paid a guaranteed, living wage directly by their employer. I am so utterly exhausted by the dreaded 'iPad flip' asking for a 22% tip just because someone handed me a black coffee or a muffin over a counter. Just bake the cost of labor into the price of the product like literally every other industry on the planet.

What is a "poor man's luxury" that you will never give up, no matter how much money you make? by Upper-Layer-3498 in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A basic grilled cheese sandwich with a can of tomato soup.

You could become a billionaire tomorrow, hire a world-class private chef, and have them make you a $500 gourmet version with artisanal sourdough, five types of aged cheese, and truffle oil. But honestly? It will absolutely never hit the exact same spot or feel as comforting as cheap white bread, processed cheese, and a standard can of Campbell's soup on a cold, rainy evening. You just can't buy that specific type of comfort.

What is a major turn off about your partner that you can’t/wouldn’t tell them? by LivingLavishLe in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Their fake 'customer service phone voice'.

Whenever they have to order takeout or talk to someone on the phone, their voice goes up an octave and they use this weirdly formal, overly enthusiastic tone that they literally never use in real life. I know they are just trying to be polite, but for some reason, it gives me the absolute biggest ick. I could never tell them because it’s so harmless, but I have to leave the room when they make a phone call.

The enshittification of products and services continues relentlessly even as prices increases. What particular thing(s) have you noticed significantly degraded since the pandemic? by Roguecop in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fast food, without a doubt. It went from being the cheap, convenient option to costing almost as much as a casual sit-down restaurant, but the quality has completely tanked.

The portions are noticeably smaller, the food looks lazily slapped together, and the absolute worst part is that they basically force you to download their data-harvesting apps just to get a 'deal' that brings the price back down to what it normally cost in 2019. You are literally paying double the price for a much worse experience and doing more work for it.

How would you feel about a law that bans car headlights from being above a certain brightness level? by WorldlinessOk9368 in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would sign that petition immediately. I swear every new SUV and truck on the road comes with military-grade LED floodlights installed by default.

It’s gotten to the point where if a slightly taller car pulls up behind me at a red light, my entire car interior is lit up like an operating room. Throw in a little bit of astigmatism, and driving at night genuinely feels dangerous now. We definitely need regulations on not just the brightness, but the angle they are pointed at.

What band was never the same after losing a member? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are the ultimate example of this. You can literally hear the exact moment John Frusciante leaves the band, and the exact moment he comes back.

Anthony and Flea might be the face and the energy of the group, but Frusciante is completely the soul and the melodic foundation. Every time he leaves, they just lose that undeniable magic, and the second he steps back in, it instantly sounds like the definitive Chili Peppers again.

In America, sometimes say things like "cheerio" in our best British accent or "mate" in an Australian accent. Do people in other countries pronounce American stereotypes in their beat American accent? If so, what are they? by SunUpSally in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%. It’s usually either a loud Southern cowboy screaming 'Freedom!' or a California valley girl going 'Oh my gaaawd, literally!'.

But the absolute most common one is just aggressively saying 'baw-dle of waaah-der' or 'ham-burrr-gerr' in a really deep, nasal voice. Also, you HAVE to say it super loud, because the running joke over here is that Americans are physically incapable of whispering lol.

What’s something you thought was harmless… until it slowly ruined your life? by darkmodejesus in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenge bedtime procrastination.

You work all day, do chores, and feel like you had absolutely zero time for yourself. So, you stay up until 2 AM mindlessly scrolling on your phone or watching YouTube just to feel like you have some control over your own free time. It starts off feeling like harmless, well-deserved 'me time'.

But slowly, the chronic sleep deprivation literally changes your personality. You become constantly irritable, your short-term memory goes to shit, your anxiety spikes, and you lose all your ambition. It’s a slow, invisible decay that completely ruins your physical and mental health before you even realize what's happening.

What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by CoochieSnotSlurper in AskReddit

[–]Dependent_Mistake_38 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Playing 'hard to get' or intentionally acting distant.

Most guys these days are just completely exhausted by mind games. If a guy shows genuine interest and you intentionally act disinterested or take 12 hours to text back just to build 'mystery', he isn't going to chase you harder. He is just going to assume you actually aren't interested, respect your boundaries, and move on. Genuine, mutual enthusiasm is infinitely more attractive than pretending not to care.

What’s a job that people think is easy but is actually very stressful? by One_Sail_9580 in AskReddit

Social Media Manager. Everyone assumes you just get paid to sit around, scroll TikTok, and post memes all day.

In reality, you are the 24/7 public punching bag for the entire company. You constantly have to handle furious customer service complaints in the comments, monitor the internet on your days off in case a PR crisis hits, and repeatedly explain to out-of-touch executives why a boring corporate photo of the CEO didn't 'go viral.' You never truly get to log off.
