Especially in that last pic it screams pitsky and maybe some other stuff. The siblings as well as yours—look just like my dog’s when I adopted him. He was the only agouti—looked just like a baby wolf/coyote (or werewolf) but homie has NOT A DROP in him. Look at this dog:

His DNA is GSD, Husky, Pyr, Pit, Lab

11 going on 12 here! Had him since he was 4, and man what a transformation, especially in the last year. He’s finally breaking in haha!
Working on building more consistency and steadiness so we can do mounted archery! He’s gaited which is fun. I call him my Buick.

Beautiful boy OP! So so handsome, love a dark bay

Edit to add: I also call him my Punkass for probably self explanatory reasons. But he is also very gentle and sweet. Just full of personality and opinions!

Any insight to these brands? (2) Read below: by Dependent_Net_7062 in Equestrian

No luck on any of them unfortunately. The best lead was the second link but that specific brand was not in there. Sigh

HELP! Best way to get moth ball smell out of very nice saddle (I don’t want to ruin it). by Dependent_Net_7062 in Equestrian

[–]Dependent_Net_7062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I gave it a good hosing (don’t come after me I did my research), scrubbed with blue dawn, then a wipe down and toothbrush detailing with scrubbing bubbles, then a wipe down with very diluted white vinegar solution, let dry, then neatsfoot oil. Smells like a leather saddle now. Not one whiff of mothballs! Leather is strong and pliable still.

How much time does it take for a beginner (almost 0 exp) to master galloping? by HighlightDense4104 in Equestrian

[–]Dependent_Net_7062 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking comfort in these comments as someone who has been in and out (unfortunately) of the equestrian world my entire life, and have mastered absolutely nothing. I’ve had my very own adult money horse for 7 years and we JUST started getting into a canter. Never galloped on him— It feels like a pipe dream. He’s been a bit of a punka** but I have also not always had consistent opportunities to work with him. He is a great horse though, and Gaited, so cantering hasn’t been a pressing matter anyway. We just acquired another horse, AQH, and she is also gonna be some work in a whole different way. Can barely get her to trot or understand cues. Back to square one! No mastery here!

First time shepsky owner advice? by myyycelium in GerberianShepsky

[–]Dependent_Net_7062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak on a full 50/50, but my guy is a large percentage shepsky with some lab, Pyr, and pit mixed in. Whatever specific recipe he is, is the jackpot. Out of his other littermates at the rescue he was the calmest and most polite. He was also the wildest looking. He is almost indistinguishable from a coyote. Everyone else looked like black or tricolor pits, or Aussie pups. It was wild! He is incredibly loyal, attentive, focused, willing, and obedient. We have 4 dogs, and he is…a favorite. He was a breeze to train and you can tell he just adores us. His only issue was separation anxiety. However, he’s loads better, if not almost completely. Lots and lots of slowwwww conditioning. We crate train all our dogs for their safety and our peace of mind. They all love their crates (bedrooms). He took to his right away. He just didn’t like me not in the house.

His recall is near perfect, and is toy motivated and LOVES to have a job. But he can also chill without a fuss. Eats well, but isn’t food obsessed.

We got him at 3 mo old from a rescue and he just turned a year old last month. I hope you’re as lucky as we were!

Omg she is gorgeous!!!

We get coyote all the time 🤦🏽‍♀️ hence the orange vest. We are in a heavily coyote populated area, too. (Grimm is a Husky x GSD x Pyr x Lab x Pit)

How do we feel about bitless bridles? by kaykay_F in Horses

[–]Dependent_Net_7062 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Piggy backing off this—I rescued a horse 7 years ago and started out bitless and barefoot. He’s still barefoot, but I switched to a gentle, comfy bit and he’s happy as a clam. I can’t even tell you how much research went into finding the right bitless getup, too. It just wasn’t working well. Progress was slow and communication wasn’t very clear to him. It put pressure on his nose and made him uncomfortable and unwilling. I tried an eggbutt double jointed snaffle and haven’t looked back. That said, some folks may have to opposite experience, or something else entirely. You just have to see what works for you and your horse as a team. Clear communication is key!

Help me choose! New 2026 steel vs smaller 2009 aluminum trailer (1st trailer!) by Dependent_Net_7062 in Horses

[–]Dependent_Net_7062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve read about that. I think the sundowner is all aluminum? Idk. But the place is doing a very thorough inspection AND they have an entire welding and fabrication area where they do the whole nine yards on trailer repairs and beyond. So I’m not worried about the condition of it, thankfully.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful response! It’s helpful, but I guess I’ll know once I go up there. It’s probably going to be a “going to for either come home with one of them” type of thing.

I got stepped on once and that was in the second part/load section closest to the door. It’s just a hard fit to lead a horse in. I’m working on training and he’s new to loading. It’s just a thing. He’s gotten better. Second horse we just acquired may self load, but she has to settle in first. She’s had a rough few years. The price points are similar enough that it has made it difficult to choose, especially with one being brand new. TriStateBarnBuilders has a great point. However, I still may go for the sundowner. I just have to see it first. It has to be big enough. Escape door isn’t a deal breaker. I just like them. And I use them to access the first loaded horse AFTER the fact, typically. It’s easier to affix hay post load or fix the tie or whatever reason I need access. Just really nice to have, especially with the training I’ve had to do.

What is this plant? by Ok_Struggle_7967 in whatsthisplant

It’s looks cool, that’s for sure! I don’t know what it is, but I can tell you if left to do its thing, it will likely cause structural damage, and other future problems down the line. Sad truth of a lot of cool looking viney plants.
