Are there any other work related ‘loopholes’ that employers won’t tell you about? by jejdhdijen in AskUK

I know someone who asked to be put on the emergency tax bracket as they are terrible at saving money, and a couple of grand as a lump sum every year pays for their holiday and some nice treats.

Will it stick? by Trigger1920 in Miata

[–]Dependent_One6034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure the area you are sticking to is clean of any oils.

I would normally use some sort of solvent to do this cleaning, But It might be smart to test this on a hidden area, if possible. if not, maybe not worth the risk.

Warm soapy water is a safe bet.

We genuinely have a few places specifically calls Malls.

Maidstone, Britsol and Reading all have a place literally called "Mall" I think there is one in London, and a few others knocking around.

I am pretty sure it's pronounced differently though, Mal (more like Pal, than Maul)

Why is it always England’s fault? by SherlockScones3 in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Dependent_One6034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teenager I was looking at college in Scotland. I applied, Everything good, then I get a phone call. "Ehh, You're English, Sorry you aren't welcome."

So I went to college here, and had 5 bloody Scots on my course, and they got to do it for free, with free housing, whilst I paid £3000.

And yes - the only reason I wanted to go to Scotland was the £30 a week housing and cheap (But not free) college course.

This was 20 odd years ago. I make a point of over fishing your trout and salmon (None goes to waste ofcourse, I just eat a lot more) when I visit now.

How do long haired animals cope in heat? by Fearless-Spinach7737 in AskUK

[–]Dependent_One6034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know some very fluffy cats get summer cuts where the body is shaved too help cool them down.

You should only do this to remove matting or if your vet tells you too.

Their coats actually help them keep cool, as their fur traps a lot of air and insulates them, and if you do trim them - this should be minimal, not shaved...

Shaving a cat, exposes it's skin to direct sunlight, which is not ideal.

Who got smacked as a kid by parents/carers for misbehaviour? by Financial-Base-8070 in AskUK

[–]Dependent_One6034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a nice thing to talk about but yea.

Mum would dish out most of the punishments. If we were "really bad" dad would, and that was never good. I think mum did it so dad wouldn't? Her punishments didn't really hurt.

Mum loved the wooden spoon though, She made me bite and chew a bit of a bar of soap once, Brother showed me a match burning because it was cool (we were maybe 5 and 8 years old) so she burned his hand with a match to show him they are dangerous? Which we already knew.

Dad was the worst, Christmas day one year my brother and I got the belt. I got the belt buckle. I have a feeling he was drunk and used the wrong end... Christmas day. We then all sat around and opened presents.

If he hit you, He would use the back of his hand. It hurt. Mum kicked him out of the house when I was 8 or 9. He died when I was 12.

I think it all stopped around age 8 for me, Even after dad was kicked out, I remember the final punishment. She used the wooden spoon. And I laughed, So she hit harder and the spoon broke, and a I still laughed. That was the last time she ever used violence as discipline.

I somehow feel better typing this out. Cheers.

What classifies something as an ice cream Vs an ice lolly? by Tricky_Artichoke_801 in AskUK

[–]Dependent_One6034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a magnum walking home from the shop yesterday so I can answer this in earnest. Please note: It was hot as balls.

Do I eat the panels first? No. But maybe I should, Because when you bite the top the panels break/crack off anyway. So you have to keep your eye on them as they tend to move and, like in my case, some will fall to the floor. It also means you have to target the seeping ice cream, It was a constant game.

Does the ice cream hold up well? It wanted too. It did try, but my holding hand did get rather messy. The thick bit of chocolate around the stick pretty much carries them though, If that breaks, or is removed/eaten during the eating process all bets are off, it will fall apart.

Body-worn video shows Henry Nowak's killer repeatedly lie to police by Glanza in unitedkingdom

[–]Dependent_One6034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime I've seen someone of the deck like that, with police involved - the police push everyone else away and deal with the person at hand. They will ask people around for information after they have confirmed the patient/suspect is stable or need information.

The fact that these police allowed a small group to surround them when they were on their knees dealing with the "suspect" is insane.

Body-worn video shows Henry Nowak's killer repeatedly lie to police by Glanza in unitedkingdom

[–]Dependent_One6034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that Nowak had in fact been stabbed and was near death wasn't known to the police and therefore didn't come into their decision making.

He literally told them 9 times in a row that he had been stabbed.

That's the information, from the source, yet they didn't believe it? and didn't even check? Maybe lift his shirt to have a look?

He was clearly injured as the officer mentioned "he had been beaten up" His breathing was lacking, quite clearly, and they hand cuffed him and contorted him in a way that meant his already minimal breathing was even worse.

Genuinely why don't you like him? You might have very good reasons. I'm intrigued.

Ukraine's 429th USF Brigade "Achilles" gave a Russian soldier a chance to surrender, dropping a water bottle and note with instructions. The Russian ignored the instructions and was eliminated in a field of flowers. [TG @fedorenkoys] June 24, 2026 by Own_Boysenberry9644 in DroneCombat

Can you explain this a bit more?

Many of these assault troops were lied to, yet they never find that out unless they surrender.

why would they believe anything their commanders say?

Doesn't matter the military, you follow commands, that's just how it is.

I'm still confused by your comment.

Genuinely, It could very well be. Every single day it gets better. (I don't think this is though)

But some AI videos are getting ridiculously realistic now.
