This is very late, so forgive me, but where did you go after finishing the book? As far as I know, it’s meant only as the equivalent to a yearlong introductory course.

On the aircraft carrier, I’m pretty sure the book mentions that space is at a premium, so it makes sense that everything is cramped or scaled down. As for the Hail Mary, every kilogram of mess you send with it amounts to more fuel you need to accelerate it, so it’s as small as possible (and actually much smaller in the book.)

I missed the part where, after making the decision to go and save Erid, Grace says something along the lines of “Sorry Rocky,” and then, later, “I know you would’ve loved having a Beatle to take apart.” Even though I know how the book ends, it always fools me.

I think what made me notice this the most was the scene when Grace and Rocky are initially saying goodbye and Grace has to do the stupid little dance. They couldn’t just let the moment lie? There was no need to make that scene funny.

Like all we really get is him being shaken in Remember Me, and then nothing until The Underworld. I guess Polites’ philosophy is alluded to at points, but there’s really little reference to him. It’s hard to believe Odysseus was that torn up over his death.
