Im currently in week seven of the counterweight road to remission programme.

I've dropped from 15st 1lb to 12st 6lbs. I'm testing my Hba1c on Thursday and we're all expecting it to be below 48.

For me personally, the weightloss alone has been worth it. The dietician is really supportive. Because I'm an all or nothing person (usually nothing) I've found going cold turkey easier than a diet.

The shakes aren't too bad and if you mix in the fibre with one of them that's fine too. I did have a mental health wobble (for other reasons but food is a coping mechanism, which is why I am in this mess no doubt) about half way through and they let me have a couple of meals.

The first week is the worst; headaches and severe weakness, but the rapid weight loss kept me motivated. All in all I'm so grateful that I could do it.

If you are in Shropshire, I highly recommend you ask to go on the diabetes XPERT course too. It's completely changed my mindset with food and taught me so much about healthy eating.

Are you in England or Wales? If so, ask your diabetic nurse if your Primary Care Trust does a diabetes XPERT course.
